Ideas for repurposing old things. Recycling old clothes. New life for old things

A creative person can not only create completely new things, but also incredible remakes of old ones.

For example, old sweater- so warm and cozy. How many memories are connected with him, how many warm evenings were spent in his cozy arms... You can’t just take such a thing and get rid of it. But even lying dead weight in the closet, it only causes annoyance.

Try giving your sweater a second life. It is not at all necessary to wear it again; you can turn your favorite thing into many useful and beautiful products and souvenirs. And even if you don’t know how to knit or embroider, and don’t know any complex techniques, you will probably end up with a beautiful and original product.

I bring to your attention, in my opinion, amazingly simple and stylish ideas on repurposing an old sweater!

2. Fashionable scarf from an old sweater
For girls who love beautiful knitted things, but do not know how to knit themselves. It is very easy and simple to create a scarflet (a short warm bandage around the neck) from an old sweater that has become frayed here and there, but would be a pity to throw away.

We will need:

1. Old sweater large knit
2. Two large decorative buttons
3. Scissors, needle, thread
4. Sewing machine (if possible)

How to do:

Lay out your sweater on the table. Using a measuring tape, measure the size of the scarflet. You can roughly use these data as a guide: 20 cm x 75 cm.
It is best to cut a strip on the back or chest. Be sure to leave the elastic of the sweater at one end, it will look good in the final version of the model.

Now you need to finish the edges. You can do this by hand with a neat, invisible seam. The sewing machine also has a special seam for processing knitwear.

Now simply fold the scarf as shown in the picture and sew on decorative buttons. Don't worry about special holes for buttons, you won't need them because the scarflet is very easy to remove over the head.

3. Case for heating pad

Regular heating pad unusual design. It seems that just by looking at her you can recover.
With the help of an old sweater you can keep the heat of a heating pad much longer; all you need to do is cut and sew a cover like this:

Remaking old things is exactly the case when you can realize the most incredible ideas and get a great result.

Don't be afraid to fantasize. You can make a lot of cozy things out of old sweaters. Here are some more ideas for creativity:

Now you can probably figure out what you can do from an old sweater!

I wish you creative success!

From old to fashionable! This is exactly the topic of this article. From the given master classes you will understand what remodeling is old clothes, learn to make shorts from scrap jeans, rugs, dresses and clothes and much more. This article offers only a few ideas. Using their examples, you can do a lot of new things.

Recycling old clothes

If you think that repurposing your old things is a sign of poverty or... bad taste, then you are deeply mistaken. Today, remaking old clothes is a special form of art. Instead of something just taking up space in your closet or dresser, you can turn it into something truly useful. This is not about creating cleaning rags from an unwanted T-shirt.

Here are examples of creating new things from old ones:

  • fabric and denim bags;
  • rugs;
  • dresses;
  • scarves;
  • original T-shirts (here we are talking about creating a new design old t-shirt, which contains stubborn stains and holes);
  • shorts made from denim and old trousers;
  • tops and T-shirts;
  • socks and knee socks from old sweaters;
  • skirts made from old dresses, scraps, jeans;
  • gloves and blowjobs from lace t-shirts, sweaters and so on.

And although you can create a new item from almost any old clothing, there are some rules and recommendations. If you don’t adhere to them, then the likelihood of creating a truly worthwhile thing is reduced to almost zero.

  1. Do not alter clothing whose fabric has already become worn out (colors have faded, holes or stains have appeared that cannot be disguised, etc.).
  2. Use it sewing machine, especially when sewing a bag.
  3. If you repaint an item, use high-quality paint.
  4. Before cutting up old clothes, sketch out a preliminary sketch of the new item. Try to properly hide defects in the former fabric.
  5. Combine different things into one.
  6. Use Additional materials while sewing. It can be lace, beads, ribbons and so on.
  7. If the item had buttons and you want to keep them on the altered clothing, then replace them with fresh ones.
  8. It's easiest to alter things that are larger.
  9. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Jeans shorts

Remaking denim clothing involves creating new items and unnecessary ones. various reasons jeans. For example, very often jeans still look normal, but sometimes they are damaged at the bottom, or they are torn somewhere on the leg. And you can only wear these at home or in the country. But they can be given new life by making shorts.

To do this you will need to take:

  • old jeans;
  • threads;
  • needles;
  • tailor's scissors;
  • decorations (beads, lace, etc.);
  • tape for hemming trousers;
  • chalk or pencil.

Master class on creating simple shorts

We offer you the easiest way to create shorts from old jeans:

  1. Put on some jeans.
  2. Stand in front of the mirror.
  3. Mark the desired length of the shorts directly on the jeans with a dot, not forgetting to add a centimeter for the hem. If you want to make shorts with a turn up, then make another mark that shows the width of this turn up.
  4. Take off your jeans.
  5. With chalk or a pencil using a ruler, draw a straight line that passes through the lowest mark. If you are sure that you can cut the trouser leg straight, then you can omit this item.
  6. Cut off the pant legs.
  7. Hem your shorts. This is done in several ways, depending on the desired look and design of the shorts. For example, if the shorts are simple, then turn a couple of centimeters inward and hem this piece of fabric or use tape to hem the trousers. If the shorts have turn-ups, then fold the denim outward, then make another turn-up and hem it.

Shorts made from old jeans are ready!

Master class on creating lace shorts

Making lace shorts from old jeans:

  1. Take ready-made shorts. It is better that they are simple, without unnecessary twists.
  2. Cut small triangles on the sides.
  3. Cut the lace a little larger than the triangles you cut out.
  4. Sew the lace onto the marked area. It will be more convenient to first pin it to the denim with pins, and then attach or sew it on. By the way, this can be done with inside, and from the front.

Lace denim shorts ready!

Another way to make shorts with lace is to simply sew pieces of openwork fabric on top of the denim. You can sheathe the entire trouser leg or some individual elements. For example, only back or front pockets. This way you can even disguise holes or stains that cannot be washed.

New dress from old

We hope these master classes will help you create new amazing things. Do-it-yourself clothes made from old clothes or a carpet made from unnecessary scraps will delight you for a long time.

We wish you creative success!

Soviet-era furniture - walls, cabinets, chests of drawers - is not beautiful, but reliable and strong. Well, I just can’t bring myself to take it to the landfill. And rightly so. It is very easy to update it, giving it a completely new sound and modern look. Remaking cabinet-type furniture may not be very difficult: there are materials that allow you to significantly change with little effort appearance. Most easy way— change color and accessories. Everything is clear with the fittings - choose what suits your style best, and the color can be changed in two ways - paint and glue film (or wallpaper).

Remaking an old wall: changing the design

Covering old furniture with self-adhesive film is the easiest option for changing the decor. Film is available today in both plain and color, different colors, textures and shades. There is no point in gluing a film with a wood pattern; otherwise, it is in trend today. But plain or patterned ones are what can turn an old wall into new furniture. The steps are simple, but the work requires accuracy. But the result is excellent. See two photos. The first one shows the old Soviet wall before the renovation, the second one shows it after.

Updating an old furniture wall - before and after

Now about how it was updated. Compacted furniture self-adhesive film was used, “cream” color, matte surface. The open part of the old wall was closed with glass doors; a translucent matte film was used for the glass. The edging is furniture layout (also self-adhesive) chrome color. The order of work is as follows:

  • Everything that can be removed, you remove and disassemble. Remove old fittings.
  • Surfaces must be clean and free of grease. This can be achieved more easily by using a soft cloth soaked in detergent for dishes. Then everything is washed away warm water with a little vinegar. Wipe with a dry cloth.
  • Cut out the details. It is better to cut the film 8-10 mm larger. The remains are then cut off with a paper knife.
  • Spray the part to be glued with water from a spray bottle. On a wet surface, the film can be moved if something goes wrong. You can even peel it off without damaging it.
  • Removed from film protective layer, carefully lay it out. Once leveled, begin to smooth soft cloth from the middle to the edges. Try not to have any bubbles. To do this, you need to move gradually, without jumping from place to place.
  • If there is still a bubble, you can pierce it with a thin needle approximately in the middle. Then expel air from the edges of the bubble to the hole and rub the puncture site.
  • Having glued the film, take a clean thin cotton cloth, spread it on top and iron it with a warm iron (medium heat).
  • We glue the trim and install new handles.

This is the sequence of work with every detail. With glass it’s the same, you just need to glue it on inner surface. After assembly you have a renewed wall. This technique can be used for any item: chest of drawers, bedside tables, wardrobe, etc.

For example, after a successful experiment with a wall, we remodeled an old cabinet in the same way and added it to the right. Now the entire wall is occupied. You can update your kitchen furniture in the same way: apply self-adhesive film and replace the handles.

There is a second way. It is a modification of the proposed method, but it is simpler and not so labor-intensive. Only the doors are covered, not with film, but with non-woven wallpaper. The wallpaper is glued with PVA glue. To prevent the edges from riding up, the parts are cut 5 mm smaller on all sides. It turns out a kind of edging. Everything looks good (example in the photo below).

What's good about this method: it's easy to change the decor. Tired of the old appearance, they tore off the wallpaper and put on new ones. Despite the fact that the method seems frivolous, the appearance is maintained for several years. Its author even tried it on a kitchen set. Only the wallpaper on top is coated twice with PVA glue. In this case, the cabinets can be washed. It is important to apply the layer of varnish evenly, without sagging; there are no other difficulties.

Sometimes wallpaper is varnished. But before you do this, try it on a scrap piece: see how they react to it.

When choosing a varnish, you need to remember that acrylic and cellulose varnishes remain transparent after drying, while polyurethane varnishes turn yellow after time. Also, polyurethane is almost not softened by solvents: it can only be removed mechanically (from wood - cleaned with sandpaper).

Dresser update

The old chest of drawers had stood for who knows how many years in the attic, but it was very strong and reliable, it had not dried out one bit, only the polish was cracked. It is much stronger than modern products. This is a feature that is inherent in old, Soviet-era furniture. It's not very detailed (to put it mildly), but after standing in poor conditions for several decades, it remains strong. Remaking a chest of drawers is more complex: two techniques were used: painting, and then decorating using polyurethane moldings and wallpaper.

Step 1. We remove the fittings and remove the old coating. In some places the polishing was scraped off, in others it was sanded with sandpaper. The chips were covered with wood putty and waited until it dried. At the final stage, everything was cleaned with fine-grain sandpaper. At the same time, the chest of drawers became the same as in the photo below.

This is after it was puttied and leveled sandpaper

Step 2. Installation of polyurethane moldings. When choosing moldings, make sure that they are not bulky: too thick ones will look very rough on a small chest of drawers. They should be no wider than 5 cm and as narrow as possible when looking at them in profile.

The purchased polyurethane moldings were carefully cut, the corners were filed at 45°. (). The pattern match must be perfect. We glue them on PVA. For reliability, you can additionally secure it with screws with wide heads. A small recess is made under them, after the self-tapping screw is screwed in, the hole is covered with putty. Try to ensure that the putty immediately lays down perfectly (you can correct it with a wet finger), since it is problematic to clean off dried putty.

Moldings are glued and mounted on self-tapping screws

Step 3. Everything is treated with a primer. You can use PVA glue diluted with water in a ratio of 1:2. After the primer has dried, paint (two layers). For this case, acrylic paint was chosen water based. The color is coffee with milk, although it looks completely different in the photo. Color rendering is inaccurate.

This is after the second application of paint. Cute

Step 4. For decoration, wallpaper was chosen whose coating was made using the silk-screen printing technique. Pieces are cut to the size of the inside of the frames from the moldings and glued to PVA. After the glue has dried, the entire chest of drawers is coated twice with water-based varnish.

Step 5. And the last to be installed are new legs (furniture wheels) and handles.

We install the handles and legs)) The updated chest of drawers is completely different from the one you saw in the first photo.

As you can see, complex work No. Everything is really elementary. But all processes require accuracy - the appearance depends on it. You can also update an old wardrobe in the same way. Get a set for the room. Stylish and original.

When updating furniture, the worst thing is if the surface is varnished. The varnish takes a long time and is difficult to remove. If the surface is smooth and the polishing is not damaged, you can apply primer for complex surfaces and paint after drying. This greatly speeds up the process of painting lacquered furniture.

If you have children and a cottage or yard, you may be interested in reading with a lot of photos. And about

How to update an old nightstand

In the photo gallery below you can see the process of restoring an old polished bedside table. First, the old polish was removed from it, puttyed, sanded and after processing it was painted twice acrylic paint. Then paper with an interesting design was glued to the doors (it was a gift paper bag). Once dry, the whole thing was coated with two coats of semi-gloss acrylic varnish.

The sequence of work is not difficult if you know how to do it. All processes will repeat the sequence of actions that you saw in the example of updating the chest of drawers. The result is also impressive.

Remodeling furniture with your own hands is a painstaking task, but the result is worth it. Below is a photo of a bedside table restored using a simple method: it is covered with embossed wallpaper, and varnish is applied twice on top.

Table makeover

Using the same technology, a banal coffee table can be turned into a modern piece of furniture. In this case it was pasted over wrapping paper. It is dense, adheres well and does not become limp when applying varnish.

Before starting work on decorating the table top, the legs of the old table and the edges of the table top were painted light color: this way it fits better with the new design style. Then the process of its transformation began.

When pasting, the panel is cut out significantly larger than the dimensions of the tabletop. It's necessary. The paper is glued to PVA and rolled with a roller so that there are no lumps or blisters. The surface must be absolutely smooth.

After gluing, take sandpaper with fine grain (it is more convenient to work if it is attached to a block). By running it along the edge, they bend and at the same time separate the excess paper.

Even cutting with a guillotine will not give you a fairly even edge. And with this method, it turns out professionally designed. There is no smell of amateur activity.

After the glue has dried, the surface is coated twice thin layer varnish It should be applied with a soft brush small quantity. Layers are applied in different directions: first along the long side, then across.

Furniture remodeling: photo ideas

Remaking furniture with your own hands is a creative endeavor. Even something boring can be made into something great thing. And it is not at all necessary to repeat exactly what you saw. A lot of useful ideas comes during the execution of the “project”. It’s just a pity that some of what was planned turns out to be not as attractive as it seemed. Try it, experiment. Good modern technologies allow this to be done at minimal cost.

Denim fantasies: bags with pockets

Denim handbags.

Denim exists outside of time and is not subject to fashion. Denim clothes everyone, young and old, wears them! But even if your favorite jeans have lost their appeal, you can give them a new life by sewing them, for example bag.

Well let's get started.....

I present the promised master class on sewing a shopping bag from old jeans. It’s better if the jeans are tight, then the bag will keep its shape better. It is very convenient to use, durable, and easy to wash. We all have old jeans, so it would be nice if we bought fewer bags.
1. I forgot to take a photo of the very beginning, so I took a photo from an old master class

We cut off the bottom of the jeans, which is usually worn out, and measure up 45 cm. The bag is in finished form small - 40x35.

2. Rip out the side where there is no finishing stitch. The stitching, if any, will subsequently decorate our bag, these will be hers side seams.

3. Fold face to face and equalize the width; when cutting the trousers, the back panel is wider than the front panel. You can leave it like that, then the side seams will go a little into the face, like . But with such a bottom, as we will do today, it is better to align it. We grind one side, the one that will be the face of our product

4. Cut out the lining (I have the lining from a shirt). I turned it over so that it would be easier to understand where the lining would begin. Don't forget about seam allowances. It's okay if the lining is a little larger

5. Pocket - looks ordinary, but convenient, especially since jeans almost always have them, why reinvent the wheel. I just cut it out and stitched it in the places where the rivets were placed by hand. Then we grind the second side

6. Stitch the bottom

7. It seems like I took a clear picture of how to fold the bag for the bottom

8. We sew the corners, I measured 4 cm from the corner to the sides... I forgot to say, it is necessary to iron, otherwise the work will not be neat!

9.Cut off the corners

10. It is already clear that we are succeeding. We do the same with the lining.

11. We turn the lapel inward (I have doubts whether I call all things by their proper names, if it’s not clear, ask

12. Wrapped, stitched 0.5 cm and ironed

13.Handles (from jeans belts, I I don’t evaporate it, I just cut it off) 36 cm long with allowances. Step back 4 cm from the middle seam and pin the handles with pins

14. Everything seems clear

15. Now turn it out

16.

17. The lining is ready, waiting in the wings. Do not sew the side seam completely, leave room for turning it inside out

18. We insert the lining into the bag inside out, it turns out face to face, it is desirable that the pocket on the lining is on the opposite side of the pocket on the bag

19.

20. Let’s sew! (I swept first)

21. Can be turned inside out

22.Where the needles are, I stitched again along the existing seam

23. I hope everything is clear! We wear it with pleasure!

Many craftsmen can make a bench, bedside table, photo frame, flowerpot, hanging shelf, even a dog feeder. The chair can be turned into an unusual table for storing various accessories.

The furniture of old times had its main advantage - it was very strong, durable, and was made from natural wood.

Light buffet

Almost everyone used to have a buffet. Many people kept it, not wanting to throw away an outdated item. It adds a certain charm to the environment. A restored sideboard can be placed in any room. The main thing is that it matches the interior. Before you begin remodeling old furniture, you need to assess its condition and eliminate any defects. Then we clean it - remove the old coating with sandpaper or a tool designed for this purpose, sand it and paint it. It is important not to forget that before any painting the surface must be primed.

Light colors are in fashion now, but you can give your furniture bright shade or paint it in a neutral color, apply a design, cover it with wallpaper, gift paper, or film. Use new fittings. If you like to draw, put some image on the doors. If you don't have enough patience, stick the stickers and cover the surface clear varnish. If the buffet is wooden, it is better to use varnish for painting. You will get a unique item that will last a long time.

How to update an old nightstand

A Soviet-era nightstand is a valuable thing. It is so strong that it can last for more than one year. But her appearance leaves much to be desired. From such a thing you can create a newfangled item.

If you like to draw, put some image on the doors.

You will need the following materials:

  • self-adhesive film;
  • putty;
  • acetone;
  • dye.

You will get a unique item that will last a long time.

We look to see if there are any defects, cracks, or other flaws on the bedside table. We wipe off dust and remove dirt. We dismantle the parts and process them with sandpaper. We putty the damaged areas, let them dry, and sand the surface again. Be sure to degrease with acetone. The next step is pasting with film. We prepare a piece of the required size, plus 3-4 cm. We apply it to the plane, remove the backing from above and carefully glue it. So we cover the entire surface of the bedside table. Next, we repair the decoration elements, attach them to the furniture, change the fittings, and assemble the parts.

Instead of film, you can use wallpaper, gift paper or just paint it.

Features of wall modification

We all remember the old Soviet walls that stood in the houses of our grandmothers and mothers. The furniture, unfortunately, has become dilapidated; chips, scratches and cracks have appeared. Nowadays you can still see these walls in apartments. If they are strong, but outwardly worn out, it is better to remake them in a modern way.

There are many options for DIY furniture modifications.

Here are a few options.

  1. Pantry. Remove everything unnecessary, and what you need will remain. Move shelves to another location or add several new ones. Place boxes for shoes, containers for linen, change the façade.
  2. Wardrobe. We remove the doors, install additional shelves and crossbars for clothes. It’s great if the wall is elongated. Then we change all the doors to sliding doors from floor to ceiling, this will help hide the gaps.
  3. Or we divide the wall into parts and install it in other rooms. For example, mezzanines - in the corridor or hallway, a wardrobe - in the bedroom or in the nursery, and a sideboard will make a wonderful library.
  4. You don’t want any changes, but the wall needs updating; you need to completely disassemble it, removing fasteners and fittings. We clean and remove the old coating. Using the necessary pastes and primer, we repair cracks, chips, and scratches. We dry and polish everything. Not satisfied with the color of the wall, repaint it, then cover it matte varnish. After drying, we assemble the wall, change the handles and hinges. If you want, install modern doors.

Go for it and everything will work out!
