Useful tips for mothers of twins. Useful tips for mothers of twins High chair for twins

When twins are small, it’s not easy with them. It’s not easy, because you have to keep them together all the time, they must always be supervised, you try not to put the babies in different directions, and for this all sorts of big, wide devices are very good, especially for twins.

Double feeding pillow, double changing board, double development mat. In general, it is advisable for the kids to be nearby so that they feel comfortable. To save space in the apartment, we are looking for a table-desk for two, special cribs and cradles. But the matter is not limited to devices inside the house. And any mother tries to create comfort for herself while walking. Physically lifting two children, and adding to this the weight of strollers and bicycles, is hard, sooner or later your arms will fall off. And in this case, any mother tries to somehow remove excess weight - instead of two sleds, we are looking for one, but for two, instead of two bikes, one, but double. In order not to carry two bags, we are looking for one, but in order to cram everything in there in double quantity. We are looking for a lighter stroller, because... this is fundamentally important. Playpens and developmental mats are the largest.

It’s great that now you can buy almost everything to make your life easier. What you can't buy in a store can be made to order. For example, we made excellent custom-made tables for classes. Space takes up a minimum, and amenities - maximum.

I’ll show you my finds for twins here. In my opinion, some things deserve close attention, and some things are completely unnecessary. As always, I will write my opinion on this matter)

So, let's start with:
Sled . It seems to me that the first option is generally inconvenient, because the children get in each other’s way with their legs and quickly outgrow this sled.

This option is much more convenient, we have approximately the same sleds and still ride down the hills on them. The main thing is that the backrests are removable. Then these sleds will last for a very long time.

Uncomfortable sled. It is inconvenient to hold the handle, push, pull. For slides, this is generally a useless option.

Tables and desks . Convenient and saves space in the apartment. We made furniture to order. It turned out even more convenient) And it’s convenient for me to work with children. They are both nearby, I am in the middle - beauty!)

Rocking chair . Anyone who has a dacha is a great option.

And also, for those who have a dacha, you can put a swing there for twins like this:

Bag for twins . Very convenient! Everything fits into one. And in this one, everything is in its place, everything is always at hand. It is convenient to wear for walks, to the clinic, and to visit.

Strollers . I wrote a separate topic about strollers. See all recommendations there.

Playpens . I already wrote before that I am against playpens as such. But if you’re going to buy it, it’s huge. or make to order. Or buy a fence and gates separately and build them (nowadays these are sold in sections). So that the children are not in a cage)

Educational playing mats . There are huge rugs. We had two of them - Tiny Love. They are big, interesting and comfortable.

Caravan for two . If there is somewhere to ride in it - great!) I like such entertainment for children)

Bike . To be honest, I didn’t see anything like this on sale when my children were little. That's why we were left without a bike at this age. We rode scooters because... It was easier for me to pull them out. If I had seen such a big one before, I would definitely have bought it. He's convenient. You can quickly get to shopping areas with your children. And much lighter than a stroller. And we bought big bikes when we were 3 years old and we still ride them.) Now it’s definitely before school)

Sling for twins . I love slings. Moreover, if you are alone with children, this is very convenient. To the clinic - not in a stroller, but in slings. Super! In my case, for example, it takes a trolleybus to get to the clinic, but it’s a long ride in a wheelchair. The sling was a big help in this case!

Tandem feeding twins makes sense simply because you will have more time and more milk supply. The baby, who is fed on the strictest schedule every four hours, is put to the breast at least six times a day. If you feed twins in turns, there will be at least 12 feedings.

Studies have shown that mothers who breastfeed their twins at the same time have increased prolactin levels. The higher the level of prolactin in the blood, the more milk is produced. Another important point for many is that both babies receive their mother’s attention.
Many women first learn to alternate feeds until each baby learns to latch onto the breast correctly. It may take a few days, but then you should definitely try tandem feeding. This may be difficult at first. But if you have a wide sofa, pillows, an assistant and a lot of patience, then everything will definitely work out.

Now that you are comfortable, have your assistant hand you your first baby. This is usually the baby who is the hungriest, the loudest, or who needs the most help with the baby. The most important thing is that the baby latch onto the breast correctly. After you have placed the first well, let the second child be brought to you. There are many different ways to position babies at the breast.

Positions for breastfeeding twins at the same time

Hands-on position

The children's legs are behind your back. You can use your palms to support and guide your babies' heads. It is important that you do not hover over children and that children are raised to your chest using a pillow, bolsters or high chair under your feet. This is the most versatile position. It is especially convenient:
- for feeding newborns and weakened infants
- in the first time after caesarean section due to the least load on the abdomen
- for women with large breasts

Position of crossed cradles

One child lies on your elbow across the mother’s belly (classic attachment), and the other on the second arm so that he is pressed against the first. It turns out that the legs of both cross. Children are positioned at the chest in a sort of “cross to cross” manner.
This position is only suitable for newborns, because then children very quickly grow out of it and begin to interfere with each other.

Parallel position

This is a combination of the first two positions - first you need to put one child “under your arm”, and then the second “in the cradle” in such a way that the children are parallel to each other. Parallel positioning can be useful if children latch on differently.

Position in which children lie parallel to mother

Suitable for older babies and allows mothers to feed their children while reclining.
Only by trying different options and listening to the babies and your feelings can you find the right position during feeding that suits all three of you.

From the Internet

As a mother of 5-month-old twins, here is a dowry list for twins. Most of the above list can be purchased as needed. It happens that some people get by with less clothes, while others need more. In any case, everything comes with experience.

2 high chairs
It is better to use diapers as bibs (you will need a lot of them)

Bathing:
water thermometer
bath (optional, because you can bathe directly in a large bath)
mattress for bathing (the “Selby” mattress turned out to be better than the slide, because it frees up your hands, because when bathing, the baby’s body is in the water and his head is on the surface)
2 towels with corner
2 terry mittens (included with towels)
I needed a third towel with a corner because... children can leave waste products in one of them, and the washed towel does not have time to dry before the next bath
baby soap (other baby bath products are used after 6 months)

Care for children:
electronic body thermometer
baby oil (“Our Mother”)
scissors with rounded ends
regular cotton swabs (needed for treating the navel)
cotton wool (for processing)
baby wet wipes (Huggies - large package at a good price compared to Johnson's baby)
disposable diapers (Pampers Sleep & Play - thin, absorb well, do not irritate the skin. Pampers Premium Care are expensive and hard, uncomfortable between the legs. Libero Every Day is not bad, but sometimes it turned out to be small, despite the weight category indicated on the package)

Consumption of disposable diapers in the first 3 months: on average every 3 hours. It takes 7-10 pieces per child per day.

Children's first aid kit:
herbs for bathing: string, chamomile (used only for skin problems)
potassium permanganate
hydrogen peroxide

Two kids - double joy and double worries. When two babies appear in the house at once, even experienced mothers can become confused, let alone “newbies.”

Do you think twins are rare? According to statistics, today one out of 70-80 pregnancies ends in the birth of twins.

We will tell you useful tips on how to better organize feeding, bathing and walking and still enjoy parenthood in our material today.

Feeding

Special literature and specialized Internet sites contain a lot of important and useful information about.

  • the mother’s body is able to provide everything necessary for both one and two babies;
  • if you learn how to properly attach babies to the breast, feeding will be pleasant and painless;
  • Feeding babies should be done on demand, not on a schedule.

But there is also Features of breastfeeding two babies .

Together or in turn ? There is no definite answer to this question, do what is convenient for you and listen to the opinions of the children.

Most moms feeds children at the same time , because if one starts crying, the other will immediately pick it up, and it’s difficult to feed one when the other is worried.

However, it happens that different feeding regimes installed by the children themselves : one baby prefers to suckle frequently and little by little, while the other prefers to suckle less often, but in large volumes. If one of the babies doesn't get upset when the other is at the breast, listen to their wishes.

Also, depending on the health, strength and temperament of the babies, it happens that one of the babies gets full faster, since he sucks more actively, and finishes feeding earlier.

Feeding positions for twins are special , so sometimes a young mother needs time to get used to it and choose the best one for herself.

Overhand pose . Sit on the sofa so that you are comfortable. Place a blanket or pillow under each arm. Place the babies on both sides so that their legs are behind your back. When feeding in this position, it is convenient to use a special feeding pillow; it will help you free your hands, with which you can hold the children and help them latch onto the breast correctly.

Crisscross . One baby lies at the left breast, and his body is pressed to you, and the second is at the right breast, and his body is pressed to his brother or sister. Some mothers find it convenient to feed this way, just don’t forget to put something under your arms so you don’t get tired of holding your babies.

Mixed pose . The mother feeds one baby from under her hand, and the second lies diagonally in front of her. It is convenient to feed in this position with the help of a special horseshoe-shaped feeding pillow designed specifically for twins (it is wider than usual).

Of course, any mother worries. And if there are two children at once, the concern has a logical basis, because you need twice as much milk!

Fortunately, nature has provided for everything and the capabilities of the female body simply magically adapt to the situation. If a woman has one child, the body produces milk in the amount necessary for one baby, and if twins are born, it adapts and increases the production of a vital product.

Still in doubt? The wet diaper test, which is relevant both for one baby and for checking twins, will help dispel doubts. Each baby should soil diapers at least 8-10 times, and preferably more.

Our forum mothers also share their experience in feeding twins.

Bathing

Pediatrician Anna Savitskaya says: “When children grow up, they can buy laps for swimming in a large bathtub, which are put on the neck. And for toddlers who already know how to sit, special bath chairs have been invented. Both single and double designs are available to help mothers of two children manage them while bathing.”

Walks

For walks, mothers can choose what is most convenient for them: a stroller, a sling or a backpack.

If you choose, remember that for newborns this type of winding is recommended when both babies are in front . While the children are small, the load on the mother’s lower back is even more or less real. For older twins, the recommended wearing option is one in front, one in back.

If your choice is for carrying children, then pay attention to special options for twins. In these backpacks, kids are kept side by side in separate sections. When choosing, pay attention to whether the model provides the following features:

  • put children in and out without assistance;
  • age and weight characteristics;
  • quick adjustment of the device to your mother’s figure, depending on what you’re wearing.

You can’t do without it during long walks down the street or during the daytime nap on the balcony. note that There are several types of strollers for doubles .

With a single cradle . In such a stroller, babies are in a single cradle with a common canopy. Disadvantages of such models: your house must have a working freight elevator; such strollers cannot drive up the ramp.

With separate side-by-side cradles And. The disadvantages of such models are similar to the previous ones: elevator and ramps. But this version of the stroller allows each baby to have their own separate personal space.

With separate cradles and ladders . A stroller of this design can be lowered on a regular elevator and carried along a ramp. To do this, you will need to release the lower cradle and hold the baby in your arms, and place the upper one above it.

If you plan to use the stroller frequently and actively, consider models that later turn into a walking option.

Well, one final piece of advice: do not hesitate to initiate and use any possible help in caring for twins, especially in the first months.

And also don’t forget that it just won’t happen, but now you have twice as much happiness at home!

The question: “Are there a high chair for feeding twins and a table for feeding twins?” becomes relevant as soon as the twin children grow up a little, or rather, begin to sit. It is then that parents face a new concern - organizing a place for feeding their children. To do this, you can get by with two ordinary single chairs and tables for feeding one child. You can also try looking for one table and high chair for twins. In fact, do they exist or not? What are they, what if they are useful and convenient? Questions like these prompt parents of twins to start searching. This happens approximately when babies are 7–8 months old. Maybe a little earlier, maybe a little later. However, you will see for yourself that it is time to transfer children to high chairs.

Usually the search ends in nothing. However, both a table and a high chair for twins do exist. Let's consider the possible options.

A high chair for feeding twins or a feeding table for twins – AUGH!

So, the search for a table and high chair for twins begins already at the age of 7 - 8 months. Then the babies already receive complementary foods, the menu becomes more varied, and traditional milk feedings gradually fade into the background. And very often it turns out that organizing a dining place for kids is not so easy: the apartment is small, and there’s no need to talk about 6-7 meter kitchens. Of course, modern new buildings require large spaces, but not everyone lives in such conditions. And the search for additional space begins, considering options for how to reduce space. And, of course, studying specialized tables and high chairs for twins - what if there is such a miracle of technology?

I’ll say right away that parents have been faced with similar problems for a long time, and solve them in different ways. Today there is no specialized double furniture for sale on our market, but if you have the opportunity to do something yourself with your own hands, you can try.

A table for feeding twins with chairs, children's plastic chairs combined with a regular table

Need a feeding table for twins? Are your hands still there? Do you have a tool? Then look how one American dad got out of the situation. To save space in a small kitchen, he cut two holes in a regular dining table for children's chairs.

Then he put them there and put the children in the chairs. As a result, both parents and small children sat around the round table.

Who is interested in making a table or high chair for twins with their own hands? , triplets and so on, we give pictures of how and what can be done. A person with hands doesn’t need to explain them, but a “armless” person still won’t succeed, no matter how you explain them.

In general, the approach is more than original, although it is quite difficult to say how applicable it is in our homes. And what to do with such a table when the children grow up a little is also not entirely clear. Although... You can order a new tabletop or, again, make it yourself.

A high chair for twins, or a table for feeding twins, it can get confusing!

Generally speaking, there is specialized furniture for feeding several small children at once. And the American dad didn’t discover America here. Specialized tables for children are built using a similar principle. True, when you look at them you can get confused - what is it? — a high chair for twins, or a table for feeding twins. Most likely, two in one - a table-and-chair.

Although it is designed not for two twins, but for more children, you can use only two high chairs, and the rest of the space is for adults.

Of course, you can’t buy such tables; you either need to make them yourself or to order.

High chair for feeding twins - a type of single

This high chair for feeding twins is built on the principle of a regular single wooden high chair. In this option, children have one large seat and a common table. It saves space, but in terms of convenience, it’s unknown. And, of course, not practical - it will only be useful for up to 1.5 years. After this, it will become small, and it is not possible to convert it into a small chair with a table.

There is another version of this design in the picture. Reminds me of a small desk. Although here the children should be a little older - the bench does not have seat belts and the back is not “deaf”. Unfortunately, it is not clear whether these are still sold or were simply a trial series in production.

Universal table and chair for feeding twins, domestic

This original table and high chair for feeding twins was already made by our parents. In general, it’s not a bad idea, and it’s not that difficult to make. You just need one long block, two small wooden children's chairs and one long tabletop, for example, a long ironing board or just a door (wall) from a cabinet.

This table can really be used not only for feeding, but also for creative activities. An adult can fit between the children on the side. Of course, for such a table you already need a lot of space or a separate place, or even a room. But it can last a long time. Suitable for children after one year.

High chair for twins - the end of the search and our reality

As you can see, there are and will always be interesting options. Perhaps, after looking at all this miracle of modern civilization, excitement will awaken in you, and you will want to come up with something suitable for your situation yourself. However, most modern parents do not bother, but simply purchase two separate chairs with a table as a table and high chair for twins. Today they come in two types: plastic or wooden.

We will describe in detail what their pros and cons are in the following articles, but for now there is time to think about what and how, and see how people get out of the situation.

In conclusion, we can say that a table and a high chair for twins is not a myth or fiction, they EXIST!!! And, as a rule, you can’t buy this thing, but you can make it yourself from scrap materials. So to speak, turn the myth into reality. Good luck J)!
