Make perfume Probably everyone wanted to create their own dream with their own hands, because the magical, sensual and alluring world of aromas cannot but attract a person. Sweet notes of vanilla, the passionate scent of roses, tart patchouli ether - everyone has their own preferences, the commitment to certain smells is inherent in human essence since ancient times. Even ancient people chose a mate, guided by the specific aroma emanating from the opposite sex. At the level of instincts, they read information about this person, learned everything about him, as they say, without words. It was at that time that the idea arose to use it for flavoring own body various fragrant gifts of nature. And in our time, the perfume industry is extremely widely developed, and in stores the range of perfumes can amaze with the number of aromas and compositions from them.

But, most likely, many have encountered the usual situation when, visiting a perfume store, we cannot decide, choose exactly the shade, exactly those notes that are bound to benefit the carefully chosen image. In addition, it is quite difficult to find out in a store how exactly this or that brand of perfume will interact with the customer’s own scent, and how it will feel, for example, in an hour.

Why then, guided by the experience of our ancestors, not create for yourself a fragrance that ideally reflects your individual inner world and your own preferences.

What is needed to make homemade perfume?

In order to make perfume with your own hands, you should learn a little to understand the material. The basis of any perfume will be essential oils, which in various combinations will create your unique aroma.

So spend one day memorizing the aromas of natural essential oils. Ordinary photo paper, which should be cut into thin strips, can help you with this. Label each strip with what kind of oil you are applying. Then apply one drop per strip and give yourself a mini-exam. WITH eyes closed inhale the aroma of the oil and then read the name. Bring your knowledge to automatism; you should guess by just one smell, without opening your eyes, which oil you want to bring right now.

After this, prepare the necessary equipment:

  • cut blank strips of photo paper;
  • one glass mixing container;
  • a set of essential oils;
  • glass pipette;
  • pure ethyl alcohol as a base for liquid perfume;
  • odorless jojoba oil as a base for oil perfumes;
  • beeswax as a base for dry perfume;
  • glass bottles for ready-made perfumes.

Perfume making process

Any perfume consists of three phases of action. Each phase is composed of aromas, depending on the durability of the essential oils:

  • The first phase is the initial note. It is these smells that we hear in the first 15-20 minutes after application to the body. As a rule, these are citrus scents, mimosa, basil, mint, anise, rosewood, lavender, lavandin and many others.
  • The second phase is the main note. The heart of the perfume reveals itself after half an hour. Used to create the main note floral scents, essential oils, musk, fennel, pine, cinnamon, tobacco, thyme, nutmeg, cloves and others.
  • The third phase is the base note. "Aftertaste" of the aroma. They leave a light, slightly noticeable aroma, which is also called a trail. These include essential oils of myrrh, frankincense, and most woody scents such as frankincense, patchouli, vetiver, and tree moss.

Some aromas can be used to create other phases, the main thing is to maintain a single composition, the general character of the product.

How to make homemade perfume, creating exactly your scent? Simple enough. First of all, it is always necessary to compose the composition of the “heart of spirits”. Apply a drop of essential oils belonging to this group to the signed strips of photographic paper. After this, bring various combinations of these smells to your nose, choose exactly the combination that you like.

After that, add the main note scent one at a time. Do not rush to combine several scents at once, otherwise you will not be able to catch the required combination, and you may get confused about which particular combination you might like.

Lastly, add the starting note oils in exactly the same way. After you have prepared the required composition, apply it to a cotton scarf and leave for 1-2 hours. If after this time you like the aroma, then you have made the right choice.

Do not immediately pursue complex compositions. For the first time, make a simple perfume for yourself, where each note will contain two or three oils.

The proportion of oils used should be (1/2/3), depending on what smell should play in the first, second or third phase. But this is not a strict rule; everyone determines for themselves the intensity of a particular ingredient depending on their own preferences.

After this, in a glass container with a pipette, mix the oils you have chosen in the suggested or your own proportion. Now you can proceed directly to making perfume.

Decide what type of it you would like to make. If the perfume is alcohol-based, then the concentration oil composition alcohol may contain 20-30%. If oil perfume, then essential oils in base oil– 10%, and dry perfumes can be prepared on the basis beeswax according to the proportion 50/50. Pour the prepared perfume into a sterile glass bottle. Remember that alcohol perfumes, after mixing, must “mature” for at least three weeks in a dark, dry place; occasionally stir them gently, but do not shake them. For oil perfumes, the maturation period is much shorter - no more than a week, and dry ones can be used immediately after preparation.

Thus, you can prepare yourself the necessary composition for each occasion. In addition, perfume composed individually for a specific person can be a wonderful gift for him.

Solid perfumes are still highly valued in the East. They are considered more durable than liquid perfumes. And, besides, under the hot southern sun, a waxy aromatic mixture applied to the skin is harmless, unlike synthetic perfumes, and its smell remains unchanged (in artificial mixtures under the influence of temperature, the components can decompose and the smell changes). It is noteworthy that in the East, solid perfumes are packaged in extraordinary beauty flat cases, often decorated precious stones. We will use a mini cosmetic jar and lipstick tubes. In the lip balm recipe, I already showed how you can use a 5 ml syringe to put a cosmetic mixture into an empty lipstick case.

Basic solid perfume recipe

Beeswax - 50%

Liquid oil odorless (jojoba, almond) - 50%

Essential oils.

In order to get 10 g of solid perfume, I took 5 g of wax, 5 g of jojoba oil and 15 drops of essential oils.

How to compose a scent?

For perfume, you can use one favorite essential oil or a mixture of several (up to 7) oils. Before composing a composition of several aromas, it is advisable to check the compatibility of essential oils using special tables on the Internet. There you can also select the composition according to its therapeutic effect (relaxing, stimulating, aphrodisiac).

Aromas are divided into groups: floral, woody, citrus, spicy, resinous, exotic.

light oils evaporate within 20-30 minutes,

average for 30-90 minutes

heavy ones in 2-3 hours, and some in 5-6 hours.

For my perfume I chose the following composition of floral-woody aphrodisiac oils (with a duration of more than 3 hours):

rose essential oil - 5 drops

Jasmine essential oil - 1 drop

sandalwood essential oil - 1 drop

cedar essential oil - 5 drops

Frankincense essential oil - 3 drops.

I made the second batch of perfume (for a friend) from the ready-made perfume composition “5th Avenue” by Elizabeth Arden. These oil mixtures are made by the Crimean enterprise “The Kingdom of Aromas”. For 10 g of foundation I used one 1.3 g bottle.

I took a picture of rosewood oil, but during the magic process I gave up the idea of adding it) I didn’t like the smell)))

Procedure for preparing solid perfumes.

Using an electronic scale, measure 5 g of jojoba oil, this is about a tablespoon.

Jojoba oil is a stable oil, it does not go rancid for a long time and does not leave greasy shine on the skin, anti-inflammatory agent. Due to its ability to create a thin gas-permeable film on the skin, it is called liquid wax.

Grate the beeswax on a fine grater (so that it melts quickly and without lumps). Wax, like oils, is sold in specialized soap shops or in markets where they sell natural honey. Wax has bactericidal, wound-healing properties and is a natural preservative. You don’t need to add toxic preservatives to your own prepared perfumes; thanks to wax, their shelf life is at least 6 months.

Place the wax and oil in a heat-resistant cup (a ceramic cup will also work) and heat in a water bath. When heated, the wax and oil mix and turn into a homogeneous liquid. No need to boil! Quickly add essential oils to the hot mixture and stir with a wooden toothpick. You can stir with a metal spoon, but because it is cold, cooling grains of base will immediately stick to it.

While the mixture is hot, pour it into a prepared bowl. Before use, thoroughly wash the cosmetic jar, wipe dry with a napkin and wipe with vodka to disinfect.

However, you can use a method already familiar to us. Draw 5 ml of hot mixture into syringes. Cool the syringes in the refrigerator. Cut off the tip of each syringe and squeeze the frozen column of waxy mixture into an empty lipstick case. Compact solid perfume is ready!

There is a saying: “Any woman can make a salad, a hat and a scandal out of “nothing.” It is inherent in us creative person, we women, in our flight of fancy, are capable of much. In cooking, we invent some of our own “mulki” for well-known recipes; in clothing, we prefer special style, we create unique comfort at home. How many things we come up with to look beautiful, be fashionably dressed and smell nice. When choosing a perfume, each of us is also very individual. How to make solid perfume with your own hands?

Now with the advent of such a “miracle” as the Internet, there are many opportunities for implementation creativity. In the cosmetic field, there are enough recipes for preparing creams, lotions, masks and even perfumes at home. Since we women are meticulous, painstaking and neat, making solid perfumes at home will not give us much trouble, rather great pleasure and self-satisfaction, because you can feel like a real perfumer.

To prepare solid perfumes at home, you need the following components:

  • Various essential oils to suit your taste can be purchased at the pharmacy.
  • As well as beeswax, it can be bought on the market, in specialized beekeeping stores.
  • You will also need containers for ready-made perfumes, preferably made of glass, or possibly metal (medallions, pendants).

To obtain the desired smell of solid perfumes, you need to know some secrets of perfumery - all perfumes have three main “notes”:

  • "high - head of spirits"- the aroma that we feel in the first 5-30 minutes - the lightest essential oils (lemon verbena, lime, bergamot, grapefruit, mint, basil, tangerine);
  • "heart of spirits"- this aroma of essential oils evaporates within 12-24 hours - this is the basis of the aroma of perfumes (myrtle, ylang-ylang, rosemary, oregano, nutmeg, palmarosa, juniper, cypress);
  • “perfume base – bottom note”- a very persistent scent that lasts the longest (sandalwood, jasmine, patchouli, neroli, rose, myrrh, vanilla, clove).

To get the desired aroma, cut paper into thin strips, drop a drop of oil on each piece of paper and sign them (so as not to forget). Cross paper strips among themselves and choose the scent that suits you.

Mix 1 tbsp. spoon of crushed beeswax with 1 tbsp. spoon of almond (or other) oil, place in a water bath until the wax completely melts (do not boil the wax). While the wax is melting, mix the selected essential oils a few drops in a separate bowl. When the wax is completely melted, remove it from the heat and quickly pour in the mixture of essential oils (15-20 drops), stirring, and immediately pour into the prepared containers for the finished perfume. Do this quickly as the wax hardens instantly. After 30 minutes, your unique aroma is ready.
