Topiary from napkins: the embodiment of the most daring ideas. "Pink" tree or how to make do-it-yourself topiary from napkins

There are probably no women who do not like beautiful and interesting things that decorate our interior. But they are often quite expensive. We suggest you save money and make a topiary with your own hands. It can be made from different materials: organza, satin ribbons and even. We invite you to create a beautiful topiary from napkins

What is a topiary?

Topiary, or as it is also called the "European Tree" or "Tree of Happiness" - an interior decoration that is very often used in European floristry. As you probably already understood from the name, this is a kind of tree, but instead of leaves, something cute and original is attached to it. But how to make such a miracle from ordinary napkins, our topiary master class will tell.

How to make a topiary from napkins?

Required:

  • colored napkins;
  • trunk (you can take a good branch or any suitable plastic stick);
  • glue "moment";
  • threads;
  • pot;
  • alabaster;
  • various ribbons, laces, beads - for decoration.

Let's get to work:

  1. Preparing napkins. Cut off the folds on both sides. In order not to suffer, take as many stacks as convenient at once. You need somewhere around 50-60 napkins of the same color. As a result, you will get a little more than 200 squares. For one flower from topiary napkins, you will need about 8-10 chopped squares.
  2. We fold each napkin a little less than in half and twist it, if it turns out badly, then try moistening your finger a little. Then we do this procedure from each corner. Get a petal. We make such 6-7 blanks.
  3. For the middle of the flower, we also twist one napkin, but only in the middle, without folding the sides.
  4. We begin to collect the flower itself. We take the middle and twist it, but not tight. We lower the tip down and press. Then we begin to wrap our bud in the prepared petals. We fix the tail with a thread. Then see for yourself what length you need. If you see fit, trim off the end.
  5. We make the rest of the buds in the same way as described above.
  6. In order to make flowers from napkins for a larger topiary, you need to cut larger napkins, but you will also need less than 3-4 petals, plus the middle. Although, we think that now, having learned this simple technique, you yourself can easily cope and pick up the flowers that you like.
  7. Let's take the leaves. We cut a green or blue napkin in half and twist it, giving it the shape of a leaf.
  8. In order to decorate small buds beautifully, we take a green napkin and cut about ¼ of it with a fence. By the way, you can do this in the same way as at the beginning - in a pile. We drip a drop of glue on both sides and twist the bud into our “clothes”. To make it more interesting, the edges of the cloves can also be wrapped a little, like the petals before. But that's not all, let's move on to the next point.
  9. On the finished leaves (from step 7) we also drip a drop of glue and put a decorated bud into it (step 8). Play with the quantity, try adding one decorated bud and one simple one to such a leaf. You will get such nice little branches.
  10. Let's take care of the leaves for large roses. Take a whole green, blue or light green napkin and fold it twice. Cut out a quatrefoil from it, remember how snowflakes were once cut. The ends can also be twisted a little. From one napkin you should get 8 blanks. Do not forget to play with color, the leaves can be of different shades.

What you need for work:

  • Styrofoam ball, if not, then use thread and newspapers;
  • Napkins or corrugated paper;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue;
  • stapler;
  • Flower pot;
  • Branch.

Building the Foundation

How to make a topiary? You need to start from the ball. It can be purchased at a needlework store for about fifty rubles, depending on the size. It is not difficult to create a base with your own hands. You only need unnecessary newspapers and threads.
1. Crumple newspapers until you get a ball of the desired size.
2. We wrap it with threads.
3. If the base is significantly crumpled and has become much smaller than the desired shape, add new layers to it and fasten it again with threads.
4. It is necessary to achieve the most uniform surface of the ball, this will help in further work.
5. Make a hole in the base for the branch. This can be done with scissors. Choose a place and cut there. Let the branch go tight, so it will better hold the ball.

Making Jewelry

The stage of creating decorations for the ball is the most interesting. In this case, it will be flowers and grass. Creating them is very simple, but by changing the colors, location and shape, the overall appearance of the topiary can change significantly. Use napkins for work, they are in every home, and if they remain after work, they will find application in everyday life. Corrugated paper has a huge selection of colors, but its cost is much higher. For the simplest tree, you will need napkins, scissors and a stapler.
1. Cut small squares from one napkin;
2. Staple two of them;
3. Cut out the circle;
4. Crumple layers. Do not touch the latter, it will help the flower to hold on to the base of the tree.

For a change, you can cut the edges of the circle. So, the flower will be more fluffy. You can change the shape with special scissors.

For a large topiary, it is better to use several colors of napkins.
Greenery is even easier.
1. We cut the same squares as for flowers;
2. Two of them are stapled together;
3. We begin to crumple, leaving the last layers intact.

ball decoration

Half of the work is done. Now you need glue and blanks. Any glue can be used: PVA or moment, with the latter the tree will be more durable.
Glue flowers and greens in turn, creating a composition.

At this stage, you can finish the job by gluing the ball to the pot. But you can go further.

Final part

There are several options for attaching a tree in the so-called earth:
You can pour DSP into a pot, dilute the powder with water and stir. Insert a branch with a ball there. When everything hardens, proceed to decorate the gray mass;
You can use newspapers:
1. Place a heavy stone on the bottom to stabilize the tree;
2. Insert a branch and, holding it, cover it with newspapers;
3. You can’t leave it like that, so cover the “ground” with green napkins;
4. And for greater relief and realism, glue the grass;
5. Pay special attention to the edges, the newspaper should not stick out.
Instead of napkins, you can use stones, sand, cereals or other improvised material.

Finished work decoration

How to decorate a topiary? The pot can be decorated using the technique, tied with a ribbon, glued with beads or painted with paints. Small animals-souvenirs can settle in the grass. A ladybug can crawl along a branch. Butterflies, sparkles or flowers from other materials will be added to the ball.
Topiary - decorations for any interior. The right combination of colors and shapes will create a unique atmosphere of coziness and comfort. Such a craft is done for a short time and does not require special knowledge. Even a child will cope. Show your imagination and surprise your guests with designer topiary in your home!

November 4- a holiday commemorating the liberation of Moscow from the Polish invaders in 1612. November 4th symbolizes not victory, but the rallying of the people, which made it possible to defeat the invaders. On this day, the soldiers of the Pozharsky and Minin troops prayed to the icon of the Kazan Mother of God, liberated Kitay-gorod and entered it victoriously along with the icon. Since then, the Kazan icon began to be revered and worshiped, people were sure that it was the miraculous icon that helped them win. Prince Dmitry Pozharsky built the Kazan Cathedral on Red Square specifically to store the miraculous icon. The date of construction of the temple is lost in history, but it is known for sure that it was consecrated in 1636. During the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, November 4 was proclaimed the Day of Thanksgiving to the Most Holy Theotokos, and in the church calendar the holiday was listed as the Celebration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. Perhaps the prayers charged the fighters with new forces and helped them cope with the invaders, but the main role was still played by the rallying of people.

National Unity Day in new Russia

The first Day of National Unity was splendidly celebrated in 2005. Nizhny Novgorod became the main center of festive events. The main event of the holiday was the opening of the monument to Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky. A place was found for the new monument on National Unity Square near the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist. Religious processions, charity events, rallies, concerts and other festive events were held in large cities. In the capital, the President of the country solemnly laid wreaths at the Moscow monument to Minin and Pozharsky. The modern Day of National Unity is a holiday that encourages people not only to remember the most important historical events, but also to remind the citizens of a multinational country the importance of unity. After all, only together, moving in the same direction, we can cope with difficulties and overcome them.

This type of craft, like a topiary, can be made from a variety of materials. One of the most readily available "ingredients" are paper napkins. Crafts made from napkins look very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. In addition, the lightness of the main material gives the finished masterpieces a certain airiness, which is why they are wonderful decorations for an interior made in a classic style. That is why this article will be devoted to how to make topiary from paper napkins.

The simplest implementation

In this case, we will look at how to make a topiary from rose-shaped napkins. This method of creation is the simplest due to the fact that the finished craft will not have a trunk, i.e. a beginner needleworker will need to perform a minimum of manipulations. In fact, not even a tree will come out, but something like a pot of artificial flowers, however, the elegance and beauty of the creation will not suffer a single gram from this. So, to get such a paper napkin topiary, you will need to acquire:

  • red and green napkins;
  • sharp scissors;
  • stapler;
  • glue gun;
  • a flower pot, the diameter of which is approximately equal to the diameter of the ball;
  • beads;
  • thin cloth (the use of this ingredient is optional; it is only needed as a safety net if the diameter of the existing pot will greatly exceed the diameter of the ball).

Despite all the simplicity, you may not understand something about how this topiary is made from napkins; the video below will allow you to watch the ongoing manipulations in dynamics. This will save you from making serious mistakes. So the whole workflow looks like this:

  • first take a foam ball and try it on the pot (it should fit tightly inside a little less than half); if the diameter of the pot is too wide, do the following: take the prepared fabric and paste it over the inner surface of the pot (if necessary, stick the fabric in several layers); fix the foam blank in the pot and set aside the resulting structure for now;
  • after that, take on the flowers; take one red napkin and fold it 3-4 times;
  • pierce the center of the napkin with a stapler (so your layers are securely fastened);
  • cut a circle with a diameter of 4 cm; according to a similar principle, make a large number of such blanks;
  • then begin to lift each layer to the middle of the circle (in the end, you should have a flower);
  • now take on the leaves (it's still easier here); cut a few strips of green napkins (each about 1-2 cm wide);
  • twist these strips with an accordion and straighten;
  • then take one paper rose and put a little glue on its bottom; glue the rose to the surface of the foam ball, which is already fixed in the pot;
  • glue a green strip around the rose (it will imitate leaves);
  • glue the entire remaining ball in the same way;

By the way! You can complete the decoration of the craft with beads (they are selectively glued to the flowers, one for each).

Having completed the last manipulation, you will finish making the simplest topiary from napkins with your own hands. You can keep your craft for yourself as a decoration or present it to someone for a holiday. The considered do-it-yourself topiary from napkins for beginners is a rather beautiful version of the execution on which you can get your first experience. However, in the future it is recommended to switch to more complex creations. We will talk about one of these creations below. Step by step video instruction:

Instructions for creating a tree with a trunk

Now we will learn how to make do-it-yourself topiary from napkins according to a more complex principle. For work you will need:

  • newspaper sheets;
  • threads;
  • paper napkins in two colors;
  • stapler;
  • glue gun;
  • wooden stick about 40 cm long;
  • satin ribbons;
  • plastic pot;
  • a piece of sandpaper;
  • any alcohol-containing liquid;
  • cotton pad;
  • a clean sponge used in washing dishes;
  • white acrylic paint;
  • gypsum;
  • water;
  • pins.

Now let's move on to how to make a topiary from napkins. For greater simplicity and clarity, the entire manufacturing process will be disassembled step by step. Also, you need to take into account the fact that you can make a mistake when creating a topiary from napkins; The photos below each step will allow you to compare the correct version with yours, making it even easier to work with. So, the sequence of actions is as follows:

  • to get started, take newspaper sheets and crumple them into a ball (you should get a circle with a diameter of about 8 cm; centimeter discrepancies up or down are allowed);
  • after that, wrap the resulting ball with threads (this way you will give it a more correct shape, as well as securely fix it);
  • now move on to creating flowers for future crafts; in principle, the algorithm of work will be the same as in the case of the previous topiary without a trunk; take a napkin of the same color, fold it 4 times, and cut out a circle of the largest diameter;
  • then, using a stapler, fasten all the circles together (all components are fastened in the center of the circle);
  • according to a similar principle, make blanks from napkins of a different color;
  • after that, start shaping the blanks into a flower shape; first take the top layer and squeeze it towards the center to get something that looks like petals; then compress the second layer and so on; do this operation with all blanks;
  • then take each flower, spread it with glue (from below) and apply it to the newspaper base;
  • cover with flowers almost the entire newspaper circumference except for the lower part (the trunk of the future tree will be attached to it);
  • after that, take the prepared wooden stick and tie a satin ribbon at one end;
  • wrap the entire stick with this tape; at the end, fix the satin finish with a glue gun;
  • after that, take on the design of the pot; to begin with, treat its surface with sandpaper (this is necessary so that the paint can adhere to the sides of the pot); as an additional treatment, it is recommended to wipe the surface with an alcohol-containing liquid;
  • then take white acrylic paint, dip a dish sponge into it and start painting the sides of the pot;
  • after that, cut several strips from napkins of one of the selected colors;
  • cover these strips with glue (on the inside) and wrap them around the entire pot;
  • dilute a solution of water and gypsum in a separate bowl; pour this solution into the prepared and already decorated pot;
  • while the solution acquires a moderate viscosity, insert a wooden stick wrapped in satin into a crown with flowers; give the structure additional reliability with a glue gun;
  • when the solution becomes viscous, insert a trunk with a crown into it; support the craft with improvised items so that it stands vertically;
  • when the "foundation" hardens, decorate the surface with satin ribbons;

Advice! If desired, tie a satin bow at the base of the crown: this will make everything look more attractive.

So you have created a beautiful topiary from napkins; master class is over. In this lesson, the exact color of the napkins used was not indicated, but this is no coincidence. The choice of colors is completely up to you, although it is recommended to give preference to orange and burgundy napkins (this way you will get the most optimal color composition).

Topiary is a decorative handmade product that looks like a tree. It is also called the "tree of happiness" or "money tree", symbolizing wealth and prosperity in the family. It is a ball on the base, fixed in a flowerpot or pot.

In ancient Rome, the cutting of garden trees was called topiary art, and the slave who followed this and maintained their ideal appearance was called a topiary. Later, the fashion for curly cutting trees appeared in Europe. To this day, interest in topiary does not fade away. Your attention is invited to a master class on creating this unusual item for interior decoration with your own hands. The most popular options are topiary made from napkins, multi-colored corrugated paper and cotton pads. Step-by-step photos will help you recreate the masterpiece yourself.

Master class on creating a topiary from paper napkins

The easiest and most inexpensive option for creating a decorative tree is to use paper napkins as the main material. This method is suitable for beginners who want to try their hand at creating a topiary with their own hands. It’s not scary if the first time you don’t get a masterpiece, as in the photo. Experience comes with time, and spoiled napkins will not be a pity, because this is an affordable material that many have in abundance.

From paper napkins, by connecting fantasy, you can create real masterpieces

But in addition to paper napkins of different sizes, you will need the following materials and tools:

Topiary set: tree base

The size of the tree flowers depends on the size of the paper napkins. The larger they are, the larger the flower will turn out. So, let's get down to business.

Advice. Small cuts can be made around the circle of the napkin with scissors. This is done to give a velvety texture to the petals.

Advice. To disguise the gypsum in the pot, you can pour transparent decorative pebbles on it.

We make a "money tree" from corrugated paper

Another no less interesting activity is the manufacture of topiary from multi-colored corrugated paper. To create a tree, you need to prepare:

Styrofoam ball or balloon and mounting foam.

    1. Pins or heat gun.
    2. corrugated paper.
    3. Wire.
    4. Stick.

Corrugated Paper Topiary Set

  1. Satin ribbons.
  2. Moss, tinsel (for decoration).
  3. Pot.

Almost every topiary creation begins with the purchase or DIY making of the base. Of course, the easiest way to buy it in the store. But in our master class, we will clearly explain how to do everything with our own hands. Follow the step by step instructions.

  • The newspaper version has already been successfully tested. It's time to create the base of the topiary from polyurethane foam. To do this, you need an ordinary balloon, you need to slightly moisten it with water inside. Slightly inflate the balloon, put it on a balloon with construction foam and release the required amount of it. The curing process will take about 12 hours, maybe a little less. After drying, remove the ball, an excellent round base will remain.

Foam topiary ball

  • The next step is to make paper flowers. You can use one shade of corrugated sheet for all flowers or several different ones.
  • Cut off a paper strip 3 cm wide and tuck 2/3 from one edge.

Making roses from strips of corrugated paper

  • Carefully twist the ribbon into a spiral. In the middle, it should be tighter, and on the sides you can make it looser. It should turn out to be a very beautiful delicate rose. Fix the free edge with glue or thread. It will take a lot of these flowers. Therefore, it is necessary to make them for future use.

Advice. To make the roses look natural, you need to spread the petals a little with your hands.

  • With the help of pins or a thermal gun, the flowers are attached to the base. There should be no free space left on the ball.
  • The trunk of the future tree should be wrapped with a white satin ribbon. To keep it well as you wind it onto the barrel, fix it with a thermal gun or ordinary glue.

Installing the topiary stem on the foam

  • We connect the trunk to the ball and install it in a pot. First, you need to put a piece of foam in it so that it fills the entire inner surface of the pot. From above, mask the foam base with moss or tinsel.
  • Another magnificent tree is ready.

Corrugated paper topiary

We make a "tree of happiness" from cotton pads

Every girl who takes care of her appearance always has cotton pads. So, why not make your own topiary from them? Prepare the materials needed to create the tree:

Let's move on to the next creation. This option is as popular as making paper napkin topiary. The master class will appeal to both beginners and experienced craftsmen.

Attention! Cotton pads are usually sold in white, but if necessary, they can be painted with special paints or improvised means. So, you can get a green material by dipping the disk in a solution of brilliant green. Brown, respectively, in iodine.

  • Let's make the flowers first. Roll up a cotton pad in the form of a roll, and fasten it with a stapler or tie with threads at the bottom. Unfold the top of the roll and shape into a flower. Make 10-15 of these roses.

Making roses from cotton pads

  • Another option for making the base for the topiary is to use knitting yarn. A ball of thread must be wrapped with plain paper. It is advisable to make several layers. Then wrap the resulting ball well with tape. The basis is ready and you can proceed to further steps.
  • Fasten the ball and the barrel, and fix its base in a pot with plaster.

Base ball for topiary

  • The ball must be decorated with roses from cotton pads. They are attached to it with glue.
  • The tree trunk is decorated with a satin ribbon. It can be replaced with wrapping paper or foil. Instead of a wooden stick used as a trunk, you can use a strong wire, well fastened in several layers.
  • The gypsum base is decorated with decorative greenery or tinsel. It is best to attach it with glue.

Topiary options from cotton pads

  • Instead of a pot, you can use improvised materials: a can of paint or a plastic bucket of mayonnaise. You can give them a proper appearance with the help of fabric or wrapping. And tie a satin ribbon bow on top.

Advice. To make the roses on the ball look different, cover them with a small layer of hairspray with a sparkle effect, stick on beads or beads. Decorative figurines can be placed on the crown of the money tree or its trunk.

Topiary care

Topiary is just the kind of tree that requires absolutely no maintenance. It does not need to be watered, fertilized or transplanted. It will delight you with its appearance, regardless of the season. Care for it is to place it away from direct sunlight, as the material may fade. Infrequently, it will have to be blown off or dusted off.

Topiary care is to remove dust

Decorative "tree of happiness", made by hand, will become the talisman of your home. It is also suitable as a holiday gift for family or friends. For some time now, the topiary has become widespread in wedding floristry. Bridal bouquets are made not from natural flowers, but from decorative materials. Their advantage is that the flowers on them will not wither during the day or will not freeze in the winter. In general, the creation of a topiary is a fascinating process that captivates many, regardless of age and gender. Ease of action, inexpensive and beautiful materials and excellent results are the main motivators to master a new hobby.
