A vase made of newspaper tubes and a topiary made of natural material “autumn colors”. We make beautiful topiaries with our own hands

Topiary is a small decorative tree with a rounded crown. This method of decorating garden vegetation came into our culture from Ancient Egypt, where they first began to give trees an unusual shape. Over the centuries, the craft has grown into a decorative art, the fruits of which are increasingly found in modern interiors. At the same time, you can make a tree of happiness with your own hands in literally one free evening.

Topiary with flowers made of corrugated paper

Topiaries with cute crepe paper buds are often used to decorate wedding or birthday parties. Many brides even prefer to use artificial analogues of flowers for a bouquet, because such details will definitely not spoil at the most crucial moment, and besides, they are not at all inferior to natural peonies or roses.

So, to make crafts with roses, stock up on the following materials: corrugated paper of the selected shade - for the inflorescence; scissors; glue; pencil; green tape for the trunk; strong thread (can be replaced with small wire); ruler; Styrofoam; a stick for the trunk (for example, a Japanese chopstick, a pencil, a branch); newsprint or other thick paper; pot for indoor plants.

To get a standard size topiary, prepare 30–40 flowers. Cut strips 3–4 cm wide and 35–45 cm long for each rose. Bend the ribbon lengthwise by a third, and then wrap the top section at an acute angle and repeat the turns three times - this is how you form the middle of the rose. Continue making turns until you have twisted the entire strip. Secure the tip with glue, and fasten the lower part of the flower with wire.

The base sphere can be purchased ready-made or formed from newsprint. Wrap the newspaper ball tightly with thick thread. Please note that the paper blank must be larger than the size you want to obtain, as the thread will significantly reduce it. Glue the flowers securely to the sphere.

Take your chosen stem stick and wrap it in twine or green duct tape. You can use corrugated paper by cutting long strips out of it, applying glue to the inside and wrapping it around the base. Place the ball on the barrel or secure it with glue.

Use polystyrene foam or alabaster as a primer. In the latter case, fill it, leaving 2–4 cm from the edge, and insert the barrel. In this case, the stick must be held until the solution becomes dry. Decorate the finished ground base with fabric, tinsel or beads - as you like. Ready!

Topiary made from coffee beans

Coffee topiary is a wonderful gift that will decorate any corner of your home. It is environmentally friendly, beautiful and, moreover, also has an incomparable delicious aroma. It is not difficult to make - follow the basic instructions. Additionally, you will need 150–300 g of coffee beans, brown acrylic paint for coating and, if desired, decor. All other materials and tools are standard, as for any other topiary.

You can perform the classic version without intricate shapes and decorations, the result will be elegant and laconic. But if your heart yearns for creativity, we offer several original ideas:

— The craft can take the form of a flowering tree and become an excellent present for a girl, mother or teacher;

— Try decorating the tree with dried fruits and placing it in the dining area;

- Use summer motifs and decorate the work with small birds and butterflies;

- Create a New Year's composition - a cute coffee tree. You can make the base yourself from thick paper or purchase a ready-made one;

— A man will certainly appreciate a gift in the form of a money tree. It is enough to glue coins to the ball, and a zipper around them, and decorate the remaining space with coffee beans;

— If you are thinking about a present for Valentine's Day or a wedding anniversary, make a topiary in the shape of a heart;

— A cup hanging over a saucer from which grains “spill” looks very impressive. It’s not difficult to do - instead of a stick, use wire, foam or hot glue.

Topiary made of pine cones

Another idea for eco-decor that is popular today is pine cone topiary. It will harmoniously complement the autumn or winter composition, and it is quite simple to perform.

In addition to the standard set of materials, prepare cones, pins, and dried moss. Rinse the buds thoroughly and dry for 10 minutes in an oven preheated to 350 degrees. Prepare the trunk by painting it or wrapping it with twine. Fill the pot with mounting mixture or chopped floral foam, fix the trunk in it.

The sphere can be coated with brown paint. Use pins or hot glue to attach the pine cones to the ball. They must be fastened close to each other. Large parts need to be glued first, the rest - in descending order of size. Attach the ball to the barrel.

Cover the improvised soil with moss or other material that you like. If desired, complete the composition with additional decorations.

By the New Year holidays, you can also create an impromptu conical-shaped Christmas tree.

Flower topiary using quilling technique

Topiary made using this technique turns out to be very cheerful and cute. It will complement the interior of a nursery or serve as an interesting decor in the dining room or kitchen. Try it yourself, it's not difficult at all.

So, you will need: thick, bright colored paper in various shades; a quilling device (if you don’t have one on hand, use a toothpick or a needle stuck into a wine cork); spherical base; scissors; a flower pot; stick for the trunk; glue (PVA and heat gun); moss or other filler to cover the “soil”; chopped foam; ribbons for decoration (optional).

Cut colored paper into wide (one color) and narrow (different shade) strips. Cut wide parts along the edges, forming a fringe. Glue narrow elements to the edge of each strip. Lubricate a thin strip with glue and use your chosen tool to twist it into a tight spiral. Do the same with the wide strip. Remove the craft from the tool.

Repeat the algorithm for the remaining stripes in other colors. Unfold the fringe and you will get lovely flowers.

Take a ball and use a heat gun to secure the flowers on it so that there are no voids left. Coat the pot with hot glue and place the foam in it. Cut a hole in the foam for the barrel, coat it with glue and place the barrel in it.

Make a hole in the crown and place it on a stick-trunk, pre-lubricated with glue. Decorate the foam soil with prepared moss or other decorative element. If desired, you can paint the pot in a bright color and also tie the trunk with a beautiful ribbon.

Shell topiary

A topiary made of shells will perfectly complement a marine-style interior. To make it, prepare the following materials: a foam ball for the base; various shells; wire; pot for stand; cardboard; twine or thread; scissors and a hot glue gun.

To make a topiary crown, prepare: a foam ball, shells and white sisal. Using a glue gun, glue the entire surface of the sphere and wrap it with sisal. Prepare the shells and then attach them to the sisal with glue, leaving small gaps. This way you should cover the entire surface of the ball.

For the barrel you will need wire, thread or twine, scissors and a glue gun. Shape the wire into the desired shape and wrap it tightly with thread or twine. You can make several trunks using different colored threads and different bends.

To make a topiary pot, prepare a clay pot, foam plastic, cardboard or paper, ready-made trunks, scissors and a heat gun. To secure the trunks, place foam in the pot. Then secure it with hot glue. Glue the finished crown to the trunk and stick it into the foam placed in the pot. Glue thoroughly using a heat gun. For strength, fill the empty space in the pot with crumpled paper, glue it and cover it with a circle of cardboard. Later you can cover it with sisal or small shells.

Attach two shells to each other and place a “pearl” in them. This way you will get a wonderful decoration for the pot. Next, decorate the base of the pot as you wish. Using a satin ribbon, you can make bright accents and strew the crown with the same “pearls”.

Today I want to tell you how you can quickly and happily build a topiary with your own hands for beginners - as always, I will give several master classes and explain in detail how even a beginner in needlework can create a topiary with their own hands. Topiaries are a great gift; they are also used for decorating and scenting rooms, and such an artificial tree can also be a wonderful gift - for example, a topiary made from money will attract wealth to the house.

Satin ribbons

Let's try to make topiary from satin ribbons. If you know how to do it, then it will be very easy for you, but even if this is your first time taking up ribbon topiary, you will succeed. So, I’ll tell you about the experience of making topiary from satin ribbons with your own hands.

Required:

  • about six meters of satin ribbon (no narrower than 5 cm, it’s better to take several colors);
  • threads, beads, and ribbon for decoration;
  • glue gun or regular superglue;
  • a stick or a piece of plastic tube for the barrel;
  • pot or bucket;
  • material for the middle - a fabric bag, crumpled newspaper or a foil ball;
  • earth, pebbles, crushed stone (I used colorful glass for the aquarium).
To make this topiary, a master class on making flowers will also come in handy - look at the video on how to make a simple rose from a satin ribbon.

We make 12-15 roses from satin ribbon. You can use several shades of ribbon (for example, three or four), or you can get by with just one shade - when I made a topiary for my younger sister to decorate the wedding photo booth, I used a beautiful ivory satin ribbon.

We make the middle - for example, we crumple up foil or old newspaper, wrap it with threads to make a dense shape. You can wrap it with ribbon, but there is no need - satin roses turn out quite lush.

The trunk can be made from a branch, a plastic pipe or any suitable stick. In extreme cases, dense wire, folded in several layers and wrapped with tape, is suitable. Wrap your trunk with tape, and then glue the trunk to the crown of the tree on one side and to the pot or bucket on the other.

We string a couple of beads onto a thread and “sew” the beads and a satin rose to the topiary. It should be sewn or glued firmly. When the entire ball is covered with roses, you need to prepare the trunk and pot.

You need to pour a weighting agent into the bucket, straighten all the flowers, and, if necessary, decorate with a decorative ribbon.

From coffee

We will also make a coffee tree with our own hands. To make topiary from coffee beans you will need:

  • base (plastic ball, foam ball - sold in craft stores);
  • trunk (branch, stick, tube);
  • a pot or something instead (I had a beautiful clay jar last time, but now I have an ordinary glass);
  • coffee beans (you shouldn’t skimp - good coffee has an indescribable bright aroma);
  • solution for fixing (I use regular putty, plaster, alabaster, or even cement will also work);
  • brown acrylic paint;
  • glue gun and glue sticks;
  • newspaper or scrap paper;
  • burlap or other characteristic fabric;
  • decor for decorating a coffee topiary with your own hands.
How to make a coffee tree:

Money

By the way, using the same logic as using coffee, you can make a topiary out of coins with your own hands. Look at the photo to see how beautiful it is to make part of a topiary out of coins, and you will get a money tree topiary. You can use regular coins and paint them with gold paint, or you can buy special decorative coins (they will shine brightly).

The manufacturing principle is the same as for a coffee tree - you need to take a base, cover it with paint, first cover it partially with coins (you can do it with a lock - as if coins are shining from an open wallet), and then cover it with coffee and fix it in a pot. Unbleached linen and burlap go well with this tree as decoration.

A topiary made from banknotes also looks very interesting, but I won’t lie - I haven’t yet created a beautiful topiary from banknotes, I’m still working on a tree made from banknotes with my own hands, so if you want to make a money tree from coins or a tree from banknotes that attracts wealth, then watch the master class on how to make a money tree with your own hands.

The kusudama style tree is also interesting - see how to make topiary with your own hands following step-by-step instructions.

Video bonus: two master classes on how else you can make an original money tree from banknotes:

From napkins

A chic topiary made from napkins with your own hands is made literally from nothing, you will need:
  • several bright napkins;
  • base ball (plastic or foam);
  • branch or stick;
  • gypsum (any mixture for fixation);
  • titanium glue or any polymer glue;
  • pot or glass;
  • stapler and scissors;
  • various ribbons and lace, decor and paper for the pot (can be replaced with fabric).

So, how to make a tree with your own hands from ordinary napkins:
  1. First, we make ordinary flowers from napkins and paper clips - we fix the napkin folded several times with a stapler, cut it out in a circle, and crumple it into petals.
  2. You will need 15-20 flowers, if there are not enough, you will make more, but usually this amount is enough for a lush and beautiful topiary tree of happiness.
  3. We cover the ball with a napkin, wrap the barrel with ribbon, and dry it;
  4. We cover the ball with flowers from napkins, skillfully weaving decor into your tree from napkins with our own hands - it can be lace, beads, bows and even plastic figures; small wooden letters or words on topiary look very attractive;
  5. We dilute the gypsum and “plant” our tree - we immerse the finished topiary with its trunk in a pot and fill it with gypsum, hold it until it sets.
We decorate the outside of the pot, decorate it with plaster.

Now you know how to make a tree of happiness with your own hands and you can decorate such products to your taste.

Cones

By the way, you can make a very beautiful topiary from cones, especially since it is quite easy to do. What is needed to make topiary from cones:
  • pot or glass;
  • stick, branch, tube - trunk;
  • a round base for topiary - you can take a ball made of polystyrene foam, you can cut it out of polyurethane foam, in extreme cases, a crumpled newspaper wrapped in threads will do;
  • lumps (preferably bigger);
  • brown acrylic (preferably glossy, dark);
  • fabric for decorating a glass;
  • decor to decorate your topiary made of cones - beads, threads, buttons and so on;
  • gypsum or any building mixture for fixation;
  • glue gun and rods for it;
  • scissors, brushes.
Our craft must be neat, only then it will not be a child’s product, but a chic craft decor.

We start making topiary from pine cones by decorating the glass - we cut the fabric diagonally (this way it drapes better), and we tighten it, gluing it with a gun. By the way, do you want to avoid unsightly glue marks? Glue it where it will not be visible (on the bottom and inside the glass, and the walls should simply be covered).

We prepare the base - fix the stick to the ball, paint everything with acrylic (it’s better to cover it with newspaper first).

We cover the ball with cones, let it dry and fix it in a pot - for this we dilute plaster, dip the trunk of our tree and hold it until the plaster sets.

You can decorate topiary from cones in different ways; I prefer beads in natural shades.

You can decorate your pine cone topiary with ribbons, hang artificial berries or even small figurines on the cones.

Beads and beads

You can also make a charming topiary from beads. It’s easier to understand how to make a tree from beads with your hands, so watch the video below on how to make a topiary from beads. By the way, a craftsman can make absolutely anything from beads - including decor, for example, berries that can be used to decorate a money tree made of beads.

Now you know how to make an artificial tree with your own hands step by step. I admit honestly, every topiary made by yourself is something special, and you will understand what it will be like only when you start decorating it. Try making festive trees and ordinary modest trees for the interior - those that are laid out with cones and coffee beans can not only decorate the room, but also flavor it (you can add a couple of drops of essential oil).

And my sister makes money topiaries with her own hands, which lure money into the house; I will publish a tutorial next time - for now I can only show from photographs what such products look like. Try making your own topiaries and surprise your loved ones with unusual gifts!

Autumn time is so magnificent in colors, the last green leaves are hidden in yellow and red ones... Who wouldn’t want to preserve this beauty at least for a while. This beauty will be preserved by topiary made from natural material. The beauty of autumn leaves, preserved in our craft, will delight you in winter.

Materials and tools

How to make topiary "Colors of Autumn" from natural material with your own hands? Step-by-step instructions for adults and children.

You need to start by preparing the leaves. We chose the iron method, ironed some of the smaller leaves through paper on both sides and covered them with hairspray. The remaining leaves were placed in a magazine under a press to prevent them from curling.

Now let's move on to the vase. We need prepared, stained paper tubes, 30 pieces. Glue 6 tubes evenly onto a cardboard circle with a diameter of 10 cm, then add another one to start work. Titan glue or hot glue.

Spiral weaving is very simple, we bend the first tube counterclockwise, place it on the next level of cardboard circle, then we also place the tube that was bent onto the next one. So we go in a circle, laying the tubes on top of each other.

When the tubes run out, we secure the end of the work with a clothespin so that it does not unravel, we extend it in the usual way, inserting the thin end into the wide one, dripping glue.

The height of the vase is optional, about 17cm. When we weave more than 10 cm in height, we begin to narrow it towards the neck; for this we place the tubes 0.5 cm deep into the vase.

We weave 2 rows for expansion, also moving each tube outward by 0.5 cm.

We have enough height, we can finish. In the last row we slip it under the next tube, glue it and cut it off.

This is how the vase turned out.

To make the vase durable, we prime it with PVA glue and half and half water, let it dry and cover it with non-glossy acrylic varnish, you don’t want shine.

Now let's start decorating the topiary. We make a ball from a newspaper or magazine by twisting and gluing it. We finish with white paper.

We cover the ball with beautiful leaves.

Let's start with chestnuts. We wrap them in maple leaves, to do this we glue them in the middle and bending parts of the leaves outward, we glue them one by one on the outside. It turns out like a nut.

Then we glue our “nuts” onto the leaves treated with iron and varnish.

We glue it in a circle as we like.

Look at this wonderful tree. At first glance, it seems to be woven from rattan or other expensive natural material. In fact, this souvenir is woven from newspaper tubes - the cheapest and most accessible of available materials.

To make a tree from newspaper tubes, you will need:

  • 7 large sheets of newspaper;
  • PVA glue;
  • brush;
  • white gouache.

Progress

The tree is made using the weaving technique from newspaper tubes, which should be prepared in advance.

1. Seven large sheets of newspaper are enough to make about 30 tubes. To make a tree from newspaper sheets you will need approximately 28 tubes.

2. Take 15 tubes and form them into a bundle, securing it with thread and wrapping it with a sheet of newsprint.

3. Take another newspaper tube and, constantly moistening it with glue, wrap it in a spiral, forming a trunk of the desired height.

4. Divide the remaining free ends into 2 unequal bundles and wrap each of them in a spiral with tubes. This way you will begin to form tree branches from newspaper tubes.

5. Wrap the resulting 2 bundles of tubes again in a spiral, dividing them into 2 more parts. Continue dividing until only one tube remains on the branches.

6. Using scissors, trim the crown of a tree woven from newspaper tubes to the desired length and form curls.

7. Wrap additional newspaper tubes around the tree trunk to make it more massive.

8. Cover the tree made from newspaper tubes with a mixture of gouache and PVA.

9. When the paint and glue mixture has dried, coat the tree with varnish.

Ready! If you have already mastered these simple techniques, you can take on slightly more complex projects - for example, for jewelry.
