Patterns for men. Men's pullover. A selection of diagrams and descriptions

This master class is about how to knit a men's sweater with knitting patterns and descriptions.

There are quite a few models of men's sweaters - “with a neck”, pullovers with various patterns and neckline shapes, with raglan seams. In terms of design, men's sweaters differ from women's in straight, even knitting (no fitted) and long sleeves. In addition, most men's sweaters have a looser fit than women's, as they are often worn over shirts and other clothing.

Let's look at how to knit a men's sweater using the example of different models with different knitting methods.

Step by step instructions

Perhaps every man has a classic warm sweater with a high collar. This simple winter model has not gone out of fashion for a long time.

You can knit such a sweater yourself: knitting is simple and straightforward and can be the first experience of voluminous knitting for beginners.

Necessary materials:

  • yarn - 100% wool, 120 m / 50 g, blue or black (16-20 balls);
  • knitting needles No. 3 and 3.5;
  • circular knitting needles No. 3;
  • auxiliary knitting needle;
  • needle for assembly.

Knitting density of sample 10×10 cm:

  • for knitting needles No. 3.5 - 22 loops per 30 rows;
  • for knitting needles No. 3 - 23 loops per 30 rows.

Size: 46-48 (50-52).

Increasing and decreasing loops has designations like “1x2x4”, which means “1 time 2 loops in every 4 rows”.

Progress:

  1. We start knitting from the back: cast on 110 (120) loops on knitting needles No. 3, mark the beginning of knitting with a marker and knit a 6-centimeter 2×2 elastic band;
  1. For sizes 46-48, evenly add 2 loops in the last row of elastic (112 loops);
  1. We switch to knitting needles No. 3.5 and knit approximately 44 cm as follows: 12 (11) loops with 2×2 rib, the next 88 (98) loops with stockinette stitch and again 12 (11) loops with rib;
  1. We make each decrease on both sides - 1x2x4 and 11x2x6 (6x2x4 and 8x2x6);
  1. Having knitted the fabric up to 67 (68) cm from the first cast-on edge, close the central 16 (18) loops for the neck and finish each side separately;
  1. We decrease 2x6x2, and after 69 (70) cm of fabric we close the remaining loops on both sides;
  1. We knit the front like the back, but with a deeper neckline;
  1. Having knitted 56 (57) cm, close 12 (14) loops in the center and finish each side separately;
  1. Close 1x3x2, 2x2x2, 2x1x2, 3x1x4, 2x1x6;
  1. Having knitted 69 (70) cm, close the remaining loops on each side;
  1. Let's start knitting the sleeves: cast on 58 (62) loops on knitting needles No. 3 and knit a 6 cm elastic band;
  1. We make increases 7x1x8, 13x1x6 (7x1x8, 13x1x6);
  1. Having knitted 47 cm, for a raglan seam we close 2 loops once (only for sizes 46-48);
  1. We make decreases 6x4x6 (5x4x6) and 3x4x4 (5x4x4), and in the next 3 rows make 2 decreases through 9 loops, through 8 loops, through 7 loops, respectively;
  1. We make the last decrease (14 loops should remain) and bind off all the loops;
  1. We make shoulder seams;
  1. Making a collar: cast on 136 (140) stitches on circular needles along the neckline and knit first with stockinette stitch, and then with an elastic band, close after 21 cm;
  1. We sew in the sleeves and sew up the side seams.

Diagram as a hint:

This Irish Pullover pattern is knitted from the top, starting at the collar, and features patterned shoulders that flow into the sleeves, eliminating the need for a shoulder seam.

Knitting such a model is not difficult, the main thing is to understand the beginning of knitting, that is, with the collar and shoulders.

Required materials and tools:

  • 100% wool yarn (120 m / 50 g) - 16-20 balls;
  • stocking needles (3 and 3.5);
  • circular knitting needles (3 and 3.5);
  • additional knitting needle for knitting patterns (braids).

Density: 22 loops per 30 rows for a sample of 10x10 cm. Size 50-52 (54-56).

It is convenient to do fittings while knitting - this will allow you to make a sweater according to your figure, taking into account all the features.

General job description:

  1. For the collar, cast on the required number of stitches on stocking needles (according to the circumference of the neck and the knitted pattern) and knit in the round with an elastic band of 1×1 or 2×2 for approximately 15 cm (more is possible).
  1. For wide strips of shoulders, the loops are divided equally and knitting continues in both directions. For “narrow” shoulders, you need to count the required number of loops on both sides, and transfer the remaining loops to a knitting pin.
  1. Knit the shoulders with a pattern (for example, braids) to the desired length. The outer loops remain open (transferred to a pin).

  1. Transfer the loops along the edges of the shoulder straps and the remaining (if any) loops on the pins to long knitting needles and knit the back and front separately on both sides, taking into account the expansion for the chest and sleeves. When the sleeves have been completed (you can find out by trying them on), the knitting is transferred to circular knitting needles and knitted in the round.

The front and back can also be knitted separately and then sewn to the edges of the shoulder strips. To do this, cast on 116 (124) loops, knit a 1×1 elastic band, and then knit the main part of the pullover (in satin stitch or with patterns). For bevels, add 1 loop on both sides in every 16th row. For raglan bevels (product height 43 cm), close 6 loops on both sides once, and then close one loop 24 (27) times. After 59 (61) cm, bind off all loops.

  1. For sleeves, the remaining unclosed loops of the shoulder strips are transferred to circular or stocking needles. Next, the outer loops are cast on from the walls of the front and back in both directions.
  1. The sleeves are knitted in the round to the cuff (they can be extended or narrowed towards the hands);
  1. The cuff and edges of the front and back are knitted with 1×1 or 2×2 rib.

Other patterns can also be knitted from top to bottom, but for this you need to master raglan from above, i.e. the top seam connecting the sleeves, front and back. Sometimes this is the most difficult part of knitting a sweater.

What could be more romantic for a woman in the cold season than the image of a man in a warm knitted sweater next to her? Probably just the fact that this sweater was knitted for him with his own hands. Such a wonderful gift as a knitted sweater will warm and give a feeling of comfort to even the most brutal young man; you just need to choose a model of the future sweater based on the man’s preferences and tastes to surely hit the mark!

To begin with, it’s worth considering several options for knitting men’s sweaters. There are a huge variety of models, as well as methods of knitting sweaters, pullovers, and jumpers. Here you need to know what a man will definitely like: braids, arans, relief patterns, funny designs with deer, or minimalism and rigor in every line of a knitted item.

Let's study in more detail several possible options for knitting sweaters to make it easier to choose the most suitable one. Beginning needlewomen will also be able to surprise loved ones with their skills; they just need to follow the diagrams and descriptions exactly.

Knitted men's sweater - diagrams with descriptions

If a needlewoman has only recently begun to master the art of knitting, but really wants to please a loved one with a nice and beautiful thing made with her own hands, this is not a reason to take on small “projects”, such as knitting hats, scarves or vests. Knitting a sweater is quite possible for beginners; it is only important to choose a simple model to begin with and carefully follow the instructions. Let's look at several options for knitting sweaters that are suitable for both beginners and experienced knitters.

The simplest model for beginner needlewomen

First, let's try to knit a men's sweater with a wide elastic band. We'll get a casual option for everyday activities.

Sweater sizes:

48/50 (52/54) 56/58

To work you will need:

  • Yarn (100% section-dyed sheep wool; 100 m/50 g) 650 (700) 750 g;
  • Knitting needles No. 5;
  • Circular knitting needles No. 5, 50 cm long.

The main pattern is knitted:

Alternately - 4 knits, 2 purls.

Knitting density:

16 p. x 22 r. = 10 x 10 cm.

Progress:

Back

Cast on 90 (96) 102 stitches on knitting needles and knit as follows: edge, 1 purl, 14 (15) 16 x 6 stitches each with the main pattern, 1 purl, edge.

After 45 (46) 47 cm = 98 (100) 102 r. from the initial row, close on both sides for armholes 2 (3) 4 p., then in every 2nd p. 1 x 2 p. and 3 (4) 6 x 1 p. = 76 (80) 84 p.

At armhole height 21 (22) 23 cm = 46 (48) 50 r. close for shoulder bevel in every 2nd r. 2 x 6 (7) 8 p.

Simultaneously with the first decrease for the shoulder bevel, close off the middle 32 stitches for the neckline, then knit both sides separately.

Along the inner edge for further rounding, close in every 2nd r. 3 x 1 p., then bind off the remaining 7 p.

Before

Cast on 90 (96) 102 stitches on knitting needles and knit as follows: edge, 1 purl, 14 (15) 16 x 6 stitches each with the main pattern, 1 purl, edge. Next, knit like the back, but with a deeper neckline.

To do this, at an armhole height of 17 cm = 38 r. bind off the middle 26 stitches, then knit both sides separately.

Close along the inner edge for rounding in every 2nd r. 6 x 1 p.

Start performing the shoulder bevel at the same height as on the back.

Finish the other side in a mirror image.

Sleeves

Cast on 42 (48) 54 stitches on the knitting needles for each sleeve and knit as follows: edge stitch, purl 2, 6 (7) 8 x 6 stitches each with the main pattern, purl 2, edge stitch.

For bevels, add on both sides every 6th r. 5 x 1 p., in every 8th p. 5 x 1 p. = 62 (68) 74 p. Include increases on both sides in the pattern.

After 47 (48) 49 cm = 104 (106) 108 r. from the initial row, close the sleeves on both sides for piping 2 (3) 4 p., then in every 2nd r. 1 x 2 p., 4 x 1 p., 1 (2) 3 x 2 p., 2 x 3 p. and 2 x 4 p.

In the next row, bind off the remaining 14 sts.

Assembly

Moisten the parts, stretch according to the sizes indicated in the pattern, pin on the pattern and leave until completely dry.

Sew shoulder seams.

Using circular knitting needles, cast on 74 (80) 86 stitches along the edge of the neckline and knit with the main pattern 20 (21) 22 cm = 44 (46) 48 stitches, close the loops loosely.

Sew side seams and sleeve seams, sew in sleeves.

Handsome model with pattern for men

The theme of knitted clothing is often associated with northern culture, since many knitting methods came from countries with a predominantly cold climate. Knitted relief patterns, motifs, arans and braids have always been incredibly popular not only when creating women's clothing, they are often chosen when knitting things for men and children. Therefore, you definitely need to learn how to knit a men’s sweater with a pattern and try to create it yourself. Let's look at the pattern and description of knitting a sweater model in a rustic style with large relief patterns and a high collar.

Sweater sizes:

To work you will need:

  • Yarn (85% wool, 15% mohair; 50 g/60 m) – 27 (28) 30 (31) skeins of white, undyed;
  • Knitting needles No. 4,5 and 5;

Product width and length:

  • Chest circumference - 108 (116) 124 (132) cm;
  • 69 (70) 71 (72) cm.

Knitting density:

Approximately 20 p. x 27 r. = 10 x 10 cm, knitted with a relief pattern using knitting needles Nos. 4,5 and 5. To ensure that the knitting density corresponds to the specified one, fragments of the structural pattern are made according to the pattern on knitting needles of different thicknesses - Nos. 4,5 and 5.

If the instructions indicate only one number, then it applies to all sizes.

Knitting pattern:

Progress:

Back

On knitting needles No. 4.5, cast on 108 (116) 124 (132) sts and knit with a relief pattern according to the pattern (1st row = purl row).

When the length of the part is 44 cm, begin to form armholes. To do this, fasten the mark in the middle of the back and close on both sides (at the beginning of each row) 3, 2, 1, 1, 1 p. = 92 (100) 108 (116) p.

When the height of the armhole from the mark is 23 (24) 25 (26) cm, begin to form the neckline: close the middle 18 (18) 22 (22) sts and finish both sides separately.

Then at the beginning of the next 2 p. close from the inner edge to round the neck, 3.2 p.

At the same time, cast off 10, 11, 11 (12, 12, 12) 12, 13, 13 (14, 14, 14) stitches from the outer edge for the shoulder bevel at the beginning of each row.

Before

Knit like a back, but only with a deeper neckline.

When the last 11 cm remains to be knitted to the end of the part (check along the back - to the last closed loops of the shoulder bevel), close the middle 8 (8) 10 (10) sts and finish both sides separately.

Close from the inner edge to round the neck at the beginning of each row 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 (3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1) 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 ( 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1) p.

Having knitted to the first closed loops of the shoulder bevel (check along the back), close the loops in the same way.

Sleeves

On knitting needles No. 4.5, cast on 52 (56) 60 (64) sts and knit with a relief pattern according to the pattern (1st row = purl.
row).

Important: distribute the pattern in both directions from the middle, indicated by an arrow in the diagram.

When the length of the part is 10 cm, add 1 stitch on both sides (after/before the edge loop). Repeat these increases every 6th row, including added loops in the pattern, = on knitting needles 84 (88) 92 (96) sts.

When the length of the sleeve is approximately 48 (49) 50 (51) cm, close for the edging on both sides (at the beginning of each row): 2 times 2 sts, 2 times 3 sts, 2 times 4 sts and 2 5 times each. Then bind off the remaining loops.

Assembly

Sew the parts on the front side with mattress and knitted seams = mattress - longitudinal edges of the parts (= 1 p. x 1 p.), knitted seam - edges with closed loops.

Sew side seams and sleeve seams. Sew the sleeves, starting from the shoulder seam and the middle of the sleeve, sew down both sides, then sew the sleeve into the armhole at the bottom.

Stand collar

On circular knitting needles No. 4.5, cast on loops from the front side, starting from the right shoulder seam: 1 st from each closed loop along the edge of the back neck + 5 additional sts at the beginning and end (distribute the loops evenly); 1 st from each row down to the last 2 closed loops on the left side of the front; 1 p. from each closed loop; On the right side of the front, cast on the loops as on the left (the total number of loops should be a multiple of 4).

Knit in the round: 1 p. purl, 1 p. facial, 1 rub. purl and 1 r. facial.

Then continue knitting in the round with an elastic band (= alternately knit 2 and purl 2) until the collar height is 16 cm, and bind off the loops.

Knitting density:

18 p. x 28 r. = ok 10 x 10 cm, knitted with stockinette stitch;
25 p. x 28 r. = ok 10 x 10 cm, knitted with an alternating pattern (average density).

Progress:

Back

On knitting needles No. 4.5, cast on 115 (125) 135 stitches. For the belt, knit with an elastic band 17 r. (= 6 cm), with the 1st r. – purl, start with 3 knit stitches. In the last r. add, evenly distributing, 13 sts = 128 (138) 148 sts.

Then switch to needles No. 5, distribute the loops as follows: edge stitch, 0 (3) 6 stitches in stockinette stitch, 7 stitches in patent pattern A, 3 (5) 7 stitches in stockinette stitch, 7 stitches in patent pattern A, 9 stitches . cross rib, 74 p. alternating patterns between arrows a and b, 9 p. cross rib, 7 p. patent pattern A, 3 (5) 7 p. stockinette stitch, 7 p. patent pattern A, 0 (3) 6 p. stockinette stitch, edge stitch.

After 33.5 (32) 30.5 cm = 94 (90) 86 r. close from the elastic on both sides for armholes 3 (4) 4 p., then in every 2nd r. close 1 x 2 (3) 3 p., 3 (4) 5 x 2 p. and 2 (3) 4 x 1 p. = 102 (102) 106 p.

After 20 (21.5) 23 cm = 56 (60) 64 r. close from the armhole on each side to bevel the shoulder 8 (8) 9 p., then in every 2nd r. cast off another 3 x 8 sts.

Simultaneously with the 1st decrease for the shoulder bevel, close off the middle 18 (18) 20 stitches for the neckline and finish the left side first.

Along the inner edge for further rounding, close in every 2nd r. another 2 x 5 p.

Finish the other side in a mirror image.

Before

Knit like a back, but for a deeper neckline after 15.5 (17) 18.5 cm = 44 (48) 52 r. Height of the armhole, close the middle 16 (16) 18 points and finish the left side first.

Along the inner edge for further rounding, close in every 2nd r. another 2 x 3 p., 1 x 2 p. and 3 x 1 p.

Perform shoulder bevels as on the back.

Finish the other side in a mirror image.

Sleeves

Using knitting needles No. 4.5, cast on 60 stitches for each sleeve.

For the cuff, knit with an elastic band 17 r. (= 6 cm), with the 1st r. – purl, start with 3 knit stitches. In the last r. add, evenly distributing, 8 sts = 68 sts.

Switch to needles No. 5. Distribute the loops as follows: edge, 5 sts with patent pattern A from arrow c, 9 sts with cross elastic, 7 sts with patent pattern A, 24 sts with braid pattern C, 7 sts with patent pattern A, 9 sts with cross stitch elastic, 5 p. patent pattern A to arrow d, edge.

For bevels every 3.5 cm = 10 r. from the cuff add 1 p. on both sides, then in every 10th p. add 2 x 1 p. and in each 10 (8) 6th p. 7 (9) 11 x 1 p. = 88 (92) 96 p. The added loops after achieving the full patent pattern A (= 7 p.) are knitted in stockinette stitch.

After 45 (43.5) 42 cm = 126 (122) 118 r. close from the cuff to roll up the sleeves on both sides 3 (4) 4 p., then in every 2nd p. close 1 x 3 p., 4 (3) 3 x 2 p., 10 (12) 14 x 1 p., 2 x 2 p. and 2 x 3 p.
After 13.5 (15) 16.5 cm = 38 (42) 46 rubles. the height of the sleeve hem, close the remaining 20 (22) 26 sts.

Assembly

Sew shoulder and side seams.

For the collar, use circular needles No. 4.5 to cast on loops along the edge of the back neckline 38 (38) 40 stitches and along the edge of the front neckline 42 (42) 45 stitches = 80 (80) 85 stitches. Knit alternately 2 knits, 3 purls. After 23 cm = 62 r. close the loops according to the drawing. Turn the collar right side out.

You can knit items for men using different patterns. Traditionally, it is believed that the back of the jumper is knitted first, then the sleeves and finished with the front. We bring to your attention a slightly unconventional knitting pattern for men's jumpers - let's start with the back and front, and end with the sleeves.

Knitting the back

  1. Let's start knitting the back of the product according to the pattern. Cast on 102 stitches on the prepared needles. Based on the following pattern, start knitting. At the bottom of the jumper we will make an English elastic band. Any needlewoman, even a beginner, knows that such an elastic band is knitted by alternating loops - 2 purl loops, then 2 knit loops. Knit the second row a little differently, focusing on the already knitted first row. Knit a purl over the knit stitch and vice versa - knit over the purl. This way you get a nice English elastic band. Knit it about 3 cm.
  2. After the elastic is finished, proceed to the main pattern. We suggest you knit with purl stitch. This way a knitted jumper will be more brutal and masculine. For this pattern, alternate rows of all-purl and all-knit stitches.
  3. Knit 40 cm. Having reached the armpit level, start knitting the armholes for the sleeves. Cast off 8 stitches from the beginning of the row and 8 stitches from the end of the row. and there should be 86 stitches left on the needles.
  4. Knit according to the pattern about 16 cm to the level of the neck, then cast off 30 middle loops.
  5. The shoulders of the jumper need to be knitted in order. When knitting the first shoulder, gather the loops of the second on an additional knitting needle, a large pin, or simply a thick thread. After you have knitted 1 cm of the shoulder, begin to gradually round the neck. Tie the second shoulder in the same way as the first. The back of the men's knitted jumper is ready!

Knitting sleeves

Before you start knitting the sleeves of men's jumpers according to the pattern, sew the finished parts. In the armhole area, cast on 63 stitches. There will also be a braid on the sleeve. Knit 26 purl stitches, 11 stitches using the already known braid pattern, then again 26 purl stitches.

Having reached the 7th row, weave the braid and begin to decrease the sleeve by 2 loops in every 15th row of the sleeve. After 20 cm, rebraid the braid. After 53 cm, start knitting the cuffs using the “English elastic” pattern, following the above pattern. Tie the second sleeve according to the same pattern as the first.

Sew the sleeves with a buttonhole stitch. The men's jumper is ready! You can donate!

Of course, the proposed version of a knitted jumper for men is not the only option. You can vary and choose patterns to suit your taste.
