Facial gommage: gentle cleansing. How does it work? What the reviews say

The most popular methods of deep skin cleansing in salons and at home are scrub and peeling. The first method is based on mechanical cleaning, the second is a chemical effect on dead cells. Gommage has become a successful combination of these popular products, incorporating their best properties.

The concept of “gommage” refers both to the product itself (often called a gel or gommage mask) and to the cosmetic procedure for cleansing the skin. The key to the success of this procedure was the successful combination of fruit acids with the smallest abrasive particles. Fruit acids dissolve dead cells, freeing the skin from impurities. Abrasive particles gently massage the skin, improving blood circulation and eliminating minor defects, and they are much softer than scrub particles.

For mechanical exfoliation, apricot kernel powder, ground olive kernels, bamboo particles, kiwi seeds and even mica particles are added to the gommage composition. Some companies produce gommage masks that do not contain abrasive particles at all.

The role of chemical peeling is performed by fruit acids: galacturonic, malic, glycolic, tartaric, citric, and so on. Almost all manufacturers add oils to the roll that nourish and moisturize the skin.

Effect on skin

With regular use, the gommage mask successfully combats many problems inherent to the skin:

  • deeply cleanses pores;
  • gets rid of blackheads;
  • smoothes out fine wrinkles and irregularities;
  • eliminates age spots;
  • improves blood circulation;
  • nourishes and moisturizes the skin;
  • evens out complexion.

The gommage procedure is carried out for both facial skin and body skin, but the composition of the product for each zone is different. More gentle formulations are used for the face so as not to injure delicate skin.

Mode of application

Gommage received its popular name - rolling - due to its method of application. The uniqueness of the product is that it does not need to be washed off with water; it rolls off the skin, collecting impurities and dead skin particles.

  • Wash your face with any cleanser. This is done in order to degrease the skin and remove coarse impurities from it, as a result of which the effect of gommage will increase.
  • If necessary, you can steam the skin using herbal infusions.
  • Apply a thin layer to dry skin, massage gently and leave for 5-7 minutes. It is important that the product does not dry out, otherwise it will be difficult to remove.
  • When the gommage dries, gently roll it from top to bottom, holding the skin with your fingers.
  • At the end of the procedure, you can rinse your face with warm water to remove any remaining residue and apply a moisturizing or nourishing cream.

It is not necessary to roll the product off the skin. If this procedure does not suit you for some reason, you can simply wash off the product with warm water like a regular mask. However, it is the rolling that gives excellent results.

Attention! The method of using gommage directly depends on its composition! Before using the product, carefully read the instructions from the manufacturer.

Review of manufacturers

Today, almost all manufacturers have included a gommage mask in their products, but only a few companies have become truly popular. The reason for this unpopularity is simple and banal - the rolling is a new product, customers have not yet had time to truly appreciate it and see the difference between peelings, scrubs and gommage. We will present you a small hit parade of gommages, based on research on the Internet.

Shiseido

The Shiseido company has pleased its admirers with only one product: Shiseido “Green Tea”. The composition of the skating rink includes green tea extract, vitamins, glycerin, purified water, potassium, and fatty acids. There are no abrasive particles in it. The product has received a lot of positive and even enthusiastic reviews, but it is not easy to buy it in Russia, so we will leave the Shiseido roll only in third place.

Yves Rocher

In second place in popularity in our small ranking is gommage from Yves Rocher. The company offers four options for rolling:

  • Facial gommage “Fresh Radiance”
  • Fruit Gommage for Face “Ripe Apricot”
  • Gentle Facial Gommage with Bamboo Particles
  • Cleansing Gommage

However, none of the above products are intended for rolling. The instructions clearly state the need to rinse off any residue with plenty of water.

The entire line from Yves Rocher has a huge number of positive reviews, which indicates the quality and effectiveness of the products.

Mizon

The undisputed favorite of our hit parade is the skate from the Korean company Mizon. The Push Out Volcanic Gommage peeling-gommage based on clay and volcanic ash received the most reviews. Women who have tried the product on themselves say that the pores are perfectly cleaned, there are fewer blackheads, and unevenness and flaking are erased from the skin. Suitable for any skin type. So Mizon gommage comes out on top among cleansing products on the Russian market.

After the procedure, it is very useful to make various masks.

We offer mask recipes:

Peeling-gommage will remove dead particles from the epidermis with special gentleness and cleanse clogged pores. The creamy texture of the product, a set of useful, nourishing ingredients will refresh the skin, replenish it with energy and strength to fight imperfections. The procedure is suitable for refined and sensitive skin; you do not need to go to a beauty salon to perform it.

What is this procedure

Gommage is a selected composition of enzymes, organic acids, plant extracts and various nutritional additives that have an exfoliating effect and at the same time heal your skin.

The consistency of gommage resembles a cream. It is easily distributed over the surface of the face and does not cause pain. At the same time, after such peeling, the skin acquires a healthy color, dryness and oily shine disappear.

The principle of operation of gommage is simple: the acids or enzymes included in the product break down contaminants and lipid bonds between dead cells. Then the product is washed off with water, and unnecessary particles leave the skin with it.

Gommage should not be used simultaneously with acid peels, scrubs or vigorously rubbed in. Patients with thin, hypersensitive skin, rosacea and inflammation on the face should be treated with special caution.

Peeling-gommage also has a preferred time for implementation: it is recommended to perform the cleansing procedure from late autumn to early spring, when solar activity subsides.

The benefits of gommage for the skin

Gommage can be partially attributed to chemical peels. It contains various acids that affect the skin problem, but at the same time they are of minimal concentration and are not dangerous for complications.

After peeling-gommage, the skin will experience pleasant changes:

  • clean pores;
  • a light massage guarantees improved blood microcirculation and prevents lymph stagnation;
  • the number of blackheads is noticeably reduced, and after a course of procedures they will leave your face for a long time;
  • the shade of the epidermis is normalized, the skin looks refreshed and glows with health;
  • oily shine disappears, pores are partially narrowed;
  • Gommage has a healing effect on acne and pimples, it perfectly soothes the skin and heals the cells;
  • the skin becomes soft and tender;
  • light lifting effect.

Do not expect dramatic changes or significant anti-aging effects from the procedure. Gommage can easily improve the condition of the skin; regular use of the composition will slow down aging and prevent acne on the face.

Indications and contraindications

  • excessive dryness of the skin;
  • unpleasant greasy shine;
  • frequent acne, problematic acne;
  • unhealthy complexion;
  • freckles, age spots;
  • blackheads, comedones;
  • clogged, enlarged pores;
  • peeling of the epidermis.

Gommage allows you to cleanse the skin efficiently, without the risk of complications and side effects. The procedure can be performed at home, which makes peeling even more popular.

Despite the mildness of the effect, not everyone is allowed to perform facial peeling using gommage. The restriction applies to patients with individual sensitivity to a particular ingredient, if there is damage to the face (unhealed abrasions, wounds, burns).

You cannot cleanse when there are purulent inflammations on the face or other dermatological diseases.

Before performing gommage peeling, be sure to consult with a cosmetologist. He will be able to recommend the frequency of procedures, make useful comments and advice on cleansing techniques.

How to exfoliate at home

Gommage is a simple and effective method of cleansing the skin, which can be carried out by a specialist or independently, at home. In addition, the product can be purchased at the store or prepared yourself.

Facial peeling using gommage is performed in the following order:

  1. Carefully read the instructions for the peeling product and read the contraindications.
  2. Remove makeup and particles of dust, dirt, and sebaceous secretions with cleansing milk (gel).
  3. Steam the skin in any way or carry out the procedure after taking a hot bath.
  4. Rub a little peeling product into your palms. So that its temperature is not lower than body temperature. This increases its effectiveness.
  5. Using light, circular movements, distribute the product over the surface of the face.
  6. Leave the gommage on your face for 10–15 minutes. For more information about the exposure time, please refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the drug. A soft film should form on your face.
  7. Roll the film with your fingers dipped in water. Do this gently, without pressing. If you suffer from rosacea or have inflammation on your face, then you can’t roll the product off, just wash it off.
  8. Apply a mask with a moisturizing effect to the surface of the face, and finish the peeling with cream.

After cleansing, use sunscreen for a few days before going outside. For a while, avoid saunas, steam baths and active sports, and also avoid chapping your face.

For 2-3 days after the procedure, treat the skin with understanding, because its protective function is weakened and sensitivity is increased, susceptibility to aggressive external factors. Put away decorative cosmetics and do not perform other types of peeling.

Cleaning Frequency

A distinctive feature of gommage is that it can be performed relatively often. Cosmetologists recommend adhering to the following intervals:

  • for normal skin - 2–3 times every 7 days;
  • for dry skin types - 1–2 times every 7 days;
  • for teenage skin - 3–4 times every 7 days;
  • for mature skin - no more than 2 times every 7 days.

Please note that the suggested frequency of peeling may vary depending on the condition of the skin and the degree of the problem. However, you do not need to adjust the indicators yourself; seek help from a specialist.

Selecting and preparing gommage

The modern market of cosmetic products is very diverse; you can easily choose several suitable options for peeling. Which manufacturers have earned the recognition of users and cosmetologists?

The leading positions in terms of effectiveness and frequency of use were taken by products from Christina, Expert Faberlic with essential natural oils, Lactolan and Clarins peeling cream. They are free of abrasive particles, act delicately and are safe for sensitive skin.

To be sure that the product is safe, before the procedure, read the instructions and perform a rapid test for an allergic reaction.

If you do not trust the manufacturers of such drugs and are wary of finished products, you can prepare a gommage product yourself. We offer a simple but effective recipe for home gommage.

To prepare the cleanser you will need:

  • 1 tbsp. l. semolina;
  • 1 tbsp. l. oatmeal;
  • 1 tsp. crushed orange peel;
  • usual cleanser.
  1. Grind all ingredients as finely as possible.
  2. Add cleanser until the mixture has the consistency of homemade sour cream.
  3. Apply the prepared mixture generously to cleansed and well-steamed skin, do not rub.
  4. After 15–20 minutes, massage your face with your fingertips.
  5. Rinse off the remaining mixture with warm water.
  6. Fix the result with face cream.

Homemade gommage peelings do not roll off as well as store-bought ones. At the same time, they are absolutely natural and safe for the skin.

Facial cleansing is an important step in skin care. With gommage, along with high-quality cleansing, you get the opportunity to fill the epidermal cells with nutritional components, and most importantly, there is no risk of harming the skin or getting burned. Regular use of this kind of cosmetic products is the key to beautiful skin without painful and dangerous cosmetic procedures.

Dead cells, secretions of the sebaceous glands, and remnants of cosmetics must be removed from the face in time so that the skin can breathe and properly perform its functions. Now there are many cosmetic products aimed at solving this problem. Facial gommage is one of them. This product is a soft peeling that can cleanse the skin without injury.

What is gommage and how does it work?

The word “gommage” is translated from French as “eraser.” Indeed, it performs its function similarly to a stationery attribute. It contains very small natural scrubbing particles, which makes it safe in terms of skin injury. The main ingredient of this product is fruit acids, which act at the level of tissues and molecules. They practically dissolve dead cells, so removing them from the skin with the remains of the product is not difficult.

The ability to exfoliate without injury makes the gommage composition the best product among its analogues. Experienced cosmetologists often recommend its use to those with dry, tired skin who find it difficult to find suitable cosmetics. After facial treatment using peeling, the surface becomes velvety, becomes smoother and more receptive to masks and creams. The frequency of use of the product largely depends on the skin type and its condition:

  • If you need to maintain dry and aging skin in proper condition, this cleansing method should be used 1-2 times a week.
  • Combination skin requires more frequent cleansing, so gommage should be applied up to 3 times a week.
  • And cosmetologists advise owners of large pores to resort to peeling every other day or every day.

The use of gommage peels gives amazing results. The skin is cleansed, does not become covered with a shiny film during the day, over time, shallow wrinkles are leveled out and blood flow increases. Even those with a gray, tired face will eventually develop a blush on their cheeks and the color will take on a natural appearance. To achieve the desired result in a short time, gommage does not need to be supplemented with other cleansing methods. Chemical peels and scrubs are best used on other days, because together they can harm epithelial cells.

How to use: instructions

  1. Before using the product, it is recommended to steam your face well to open all the pores. To complete this stage, a steam bath with herbs (chamomile, calendula) is suitable.
  2. Squeeze the gommage peeling out of the tube and warm it on your fingertips. This way the product will not cause discomfort when in contact with hot skin.
  3. Distribute the cream with massaging movements and leave for a quarter of an hour.
  4. Roll the dried layer with light movements. Along with it, dead cells and dirt filling the pores will roll off. It is highly not recommended to wait until the gommage composition dries well and turns into a hard crust. During its removal there is a risk of damaging the skin or stretching it.
  5. Rinse your face with clean water and pat dry with a dry towel.

If there is inflammation, the gommage should not be rolled up, but washed off like a mask. Experts also recommend following this procedure in autumn, winter, and the first month of spring, because it should not be combined with high activity of sunlight. Starting from the second half of April, put the gommage on the far shelf.

Recipes at home

Most women who take care of themselves know how to prepare a facial scrub at home. This way they manage to maintain beauty without wasting money and time on visiting cosmetologists’ offices. Facial gommage is also no exception. And if you have all the necessary ingredients on hand, you can quickly prepare a gentle peeling at home. There are many recipes for gommage peelings for all types. For example:

For dry and sensitive

  1. In a bowl for masks, combine 1 tbsp. l. orange powder (grind several dry peels of this fruit in a coffee grinder), 1 tbsp. l. oat flour, 2 tbsp. l. decoys. Dilute the mixture with full-fat kefir to the required thickness, stirring well. Then use it like any other gommage. It is not recommended to store this facial peeling at home, so it should be used immediately after preparation.
  2. Mix 2 tbsp. l. semolina, ground oatmeal with 1 tbsp. l. sour cream, 1 tsp. olive oil. Add yolk, 2-3 drops of chamomile oil, 0.5 tsp each to the resulting mixture. aloe juice, parsley. Let the mixture stand for 15-20 minutes so that the semolina can swell. At this time, clean your face and dry with a towel. Then use the mixture as required by the instructions. Semolina is not capable of scratching the skin, like oatmeal, but this does not prevent them from removing dead skin cells well.

For fatty

  1. Mix 1 tbsp. l. dry cream, rice flour with 2 tbsp. l. ground barley grains into flour. Dilute the dry mixture with low-fat milk to the required viscosity. Next, apply the mixture to your face, hold for 15-20 minutes, roll with your fingertips, and rinse your face with clean water. This peeling will provide deep cleansing of pores at home without significant financial expenses. Almost all of the ingredients listed are available in every kitchen, which simplifies the task of preparing this recipe.
  2. Take 0.5 liters of kefir (0.1%), apply in several layers (each layer should dry) onto cleansed skin using a soft brush. Wait half an hour, roll up the mask with your fingertips. Next, rinse your face with water, pat dry with a towel and moisturize with cream. This method of cleansing the face will appeal to business girls and women who do not have enough time to prepare more complex mixtures.

For combined

  1. Mix 1 tsp. sour cream, ground salt with 1 tbsp. l. natural ground coffee. Apply the resulting mixture to the skin and wait until it dries to a soft crust. Roll with your fingers and rinse your face. If you replace a simple coffee face scrub with this gommage, the effect will be no worse.
  2. In a bowl for preparing masks, mix 1 tbsp. l. semolina, olive oil, ground carrots and freshly squeezed carrot juice. Apply gommage to cleansed skin, leave for a few minutes, and roll. Carrot peeling removes dead cells well, moisturizes and stops the aging process.

From blackheads

Melt 4 tbsp. honey in a water bath and mix with 1 tbsp. ground sea salt. In this state, apply to a clean face, without touching the skin around the eyes, and leave for 15 minutes. Remove the composition with gentle massage movements and wash your face with clean water. With regular use, blackheads gradually become a thing of the past. However, such a remedy will not be able to clear the skin of acne and inflammation, so to solve the problem with acne, you should consult a dermatologist.

  1. Mix 0.5 tbsp. l wheat or oat flour with 1 tbsp. l. simple gel for washing. Beat the resulting mixture well and apply to your face for 20 minutes. Roll the film with your fingers.

Review of the best brands

The cosmetology industry does not stand still, replenishing the “flotilla” of created cosmetics with new “ships”. This is how gommages for the face and body appeared, which are used by girls and women of all ages. Finding such a product is not difficult now, since there are many good options from popular brands.

Cleansing from Faberlic

Suitable for those with dry skin that requires special care. Girls over 20 years of age are allowed to use it if necessary. • Ingredients: Novaftem-O2™ complex, white clay, essential oil complex. The first ingredient is responsible for saturating cells with oxygen, the second absorbs sebum, and essential oils relieve irritation, accelerate the process of cell restoration, and increase the protective barrier of the dermis.
  • Use: apply gommage 1-2 times a week on a clean face to make it easier for the active components to reach the deep layers of the epidermis. After a quarter of an hour, roll the film with your fingers, performing gentle circular movements, and wash your face.

There are no dangerous chemical ingredients in this peeling, so it is safe for any type. Many girls and women who have no time to prepare a natural facial scrub choose it for many reasons. It is gentle, like a gel, thoroughly removes dead cells from the surface of the skin, filling it with energy. Another big plus is the delicious aroma, invigorating like coffee.

  • Ingredients: the formula contains coffee powder, olive oil, organic green coffee bean oil, macadamia nuts and other healthy ingredients. Powder of ground grains ensures effective cleansing of the skin, while oils provide maximum hydration.
  • Usage: the gommage composition is applied to a clean face and after a light massage is washed off with warm water. With regular use, the surface of the skin acquires a healthy color, and its structure is gradually evened out.

A unique gommage aimed at solving several important problems. It painlessly removes dead epithelial cells, smoothes the texture and enhances the effect of moisturizers. For those looking for the best facial scrub, this product is a good option. The peeling contains pineapple extract, which is responsible for cleansing the epidermis, allantoin and special micro-granules. The smell is neutral. The gentle effect of the product makes it ideal for those with very delicate skin.

Avon gommage mask

A gentle product created using Dead Sea minerals. This peeling has gained the attention of many women because it cleanses the face, stimulates metabolic processes between cells and blood flow. The use of the product does not cause redness or allergic reactions, therefore it is suitable for those with sensitive skin. It will not be out of place on the shelf of women whose skin is beginning to age. Dead Sea minerals are able to revive it and slow down the inevitable aging process at the cellular level.

From Yves Rocher

This popular brand offers several cleansers that have gained popularity among women of all ages. Among them were especially noted:

  • “Hydra Vegetal fresh radiance - refreshes the skin, gives it radiance, exfoliates with bamboo microgranules.
  • Fruit gommage “Ripe Apricot” - includes apricot kernel powder, aromatic orange essential oil, glycerin and chamomile extract, so it removes dead cells well and soothes.
  • Air Stream “Oxygen Balance” – smoothes the surface, improves the functioning of the sebaceous glands, removes dead cells, cleanses pores.

Contraindications

Gommage is considered the most gentle scrubbing product, but, like other products in the cosmetic industry, it has certain contraindications. For example, this remedy is not recommended for use in the presence of diseases such as psoriasis, herpes, and some types of molluscum contagiosum. You should refrain from using it if you have sunburn or a fresh tan. If the epidermis lacks elasticity and has visible signs of aging, gommage should be used very carefully, because there is a risk of stretching it even more.

To prevent this from happening, it would be better to refuse to lightly rub the peeling along the massage lines, replacing it, for example, with patting movements. In this case, the skin will be thoroughly invigorated, and the nutritional components of the gommage will penetrate into its deeper layers. For rapidly aging skin, this is extremely important, because its old cells are not able to quickly respond to skin care products.

Gommage is another ship in the beauty industry flotilla. The main purpose of this cosmetic product is to gently cleanse the skin by exfoliating: gommage, as it were, erases impurities, sebum and dead cells from the skin. That is why it got its name - “gomme” is translated from French as eraser. Considering that this product appeared on our expanses relatively recently, we suggest taking a closer look at it.

What is gommage

At its core, gommage is the most gentle peeling, where cleansing occurs not mechanically, but by dissolving the keratinized epidermis with active substances. Enzymes or organic (fruit) acids are usually used as such active exfoliants in gommage. For them to work, the product is applied to the face for a few minutes, after which it is carefully rolled off (or washed off), absorbing everything unnecessary from the surface of the skin. The effect of gommage is so delicate that it is suitable even for those with very dry or sensitive skin.

Advantages of gommage

The most important advantage of gommage over other cleansers is the maximum result with minimal impact on the skin. After this procedure, facial skin becomes not only fresher in appearance and soft to the touch, but also more receptive to creams and masks. Moreover, the gommage itself is capable of providing a nourishing and moisturizing effect, since its composition often includes components with appropriate properties. But this is not all the advantages of such a soft peeling - micromassage during this procedure has a stimulating effect on the metabolic processes and protective functions of the facial skin.

Contraindications to the use of gommage

Due to its gentle effect, gommage is suitable for all types of skin at any age, however, there are certain restrictions on the use of this procedure. Thus, it is not recommended to cleanse the skin in this way if the skin is often chapped for a long time or is exposed to direct rays of the sun, so as not to leave it without natural protection. It is not safe to use gommage to cleanse flabby, thin skin due to the risk of further stretching it. There are also reviews that the delicate effect of the procedure is not enough to cleanse oily skin. And also, keep in mind that gommage cannot be combined with other types of cleansing (scrubs, chemical peeling).

How often to use gommage to cleanse your face

Let us note right away that the optimal frequency of using such a delicate peeling is determined solely by you, or more precisely, by your skin type. So, for example, to achieve and maintain good results on normal and dry skin, it is recommended to use gommage once a week. You shouldn’t get too carried away with this method of cleansing even in the case of aging skin - 1-2 procedures per week are quite enough. To effectively cleanse combination skin using gommage, you will need more procedures - up to 3 per week, oily and porous skin - every other day. Considering that it is not advisable to combine solar activity and the use of gommage, plan these cosmetic procedures for winter, early spring and autumn.

Technique for applying gommage

Another advantage of gommage is that it can be used independently at home. To do this, you can use both ready-made products, which are produced by most cosmetics manufacturers, and homemade formulations. The beginning of the procedure is preparation for it, namely, the skin needs to be cleaned and steamed. Now slightly warm up the required amount of product in your palm and apply it to your face with soft rubbing movements along the massage lines. At the same time, we recommend not limiting yourself to the face, but going lower – to the neck and décolleté. Leave the product on the skin until a soft film forms (10-15 minutes), which is carefully rolled off. If you have inflammatory processes on your face, you should not roll the product off - rinse it off with warm water. Remember that after this procedure the skin is able to “accept” other cosmetic products as much as possible - masks, serums, creams. And do not forget that during the day your facial skin should be protected from the sun (including solarium) and wind.

The effect of using gommage

With regular use of gommage, you can count on the following effects: cleansing the skin, making it pleasantly smooth and velvety, slightly narrowing pores and improving complexion. The skin really becomes younger and fresher. Decorative cosmetics fit better on it, and cosmetics give a more visible result. However, you should not hope that gommage will solve the problem of deep wrinkles, pimples and the consequences of acne, since it is still a mild peeling. But it will allow you to avoid the use of more aggressive cosmetic procedures.

Choice of gommage

When choosing gommage, pay attention to several important aspects. For example, has it been tested and passed the necessary controls. Also carefully read the composition of the chosen product, especially if you have a tendency to allergic reactions. In addition, he will tell you in which direction he works most effectively. So, to cleanse sensitive skin, we recommend choosing gommages containing ultra-purified oils and sugar. If you want to not only cleanse the skin, but also improve its color, as well as remove excess liquid from it, look for sea salt and algae in the gommage composition. For those who prefer to make their own cosmetics, there are many effective homemade gommage recipes.

Gommage is a good way to gently cleanse the skin, especially when its condition does not allow for more aggressive cleaning methods. Moreover, it can be carried out independently with a composition made by yourself. Watch the video for recipes for such homemade gommage.

Skin is the boundary between the environment and the human body. Several of its layers create a natural protective barrier that prevents foreign substances from entering inside. The outer layer, the epidermis, stops the vast majority of external elements. This cannot but affect the condition of the visible part of the skin, because... factors acting from outside have destructive properties.

Find out what kind of procedure this is - facial gommage, what are the advantages and disadvantages of this technique, how to properly carry out the procedure yourself.

Why does the epidermis die?

On the outer part of the skin, especially on the face, nature provides increased tendency to regenerate – self-healing. Thanks to this, epidermal cells are constantly dividing, old layers die off.

Natural regeneration- this is the replacement of old layers with new ones. Young skin grows, protects, absorbs toxic substances and dies, giving way to new skin. The areas of the worn-out covering gradually fall off, but are still on the face for some time, because... their separation does not occur simultaneously.

Modern care products contribute to the longer preservation of these particles - creams delay complete drying and timely falling off. And their presence on the face, in turn, promotes more severe contamination of the epidermis– dead particles create unevenness and trap pollution from the environment and waste products of the sebaceous glands.

Therefore, cosmetologists have long come up with facial cleansing. There are 2 ways to carry it out, mechanical (scrub) and chemical (gommage), their combinations are more often used.

Advantages and disadvantages of the method

The most gentle chemical method cleansing the epidermis - gommage. Its essence is that any contaminants are absorbed by the applied substance, and the flaky remnants of the dead layer are separated from the healthy cover.

The positive effect of gommage lies in the selectivity of the action. When using scrubs, a continuous effect occurs, the entire area is polished, regardless of the condition of the epidermis. This causes microtraumas on the epidermis that was intact before the procedure.

Gommage removes only dirt and dead particles, and healthy areas are not at risk. On the contrary, during the procedure they receive hydration and nutrition.

Gommage is used on all skin types; there are fewer contraindications for use than with scrubbing. Without any mechanical impact, such peeling does not damage even the most sensitive and thin skin.

Comparative characteristics of the main cleaning agents are given in the table:

This procedure is not very effective on heavily contaminated thick skin - more procedures or preliminary peeling with a scrub will be required.

An allergic reaction to the components of the product is possible.

Indications and contraindications for use

You should not take risks using scrubbing products on thin, dry and aging skin. Gommage will cleanse delicately and effectively. To revitalize and tone the skin, gommage is also ideal: as the composition dries on the face, the pores narrow and elasticity increases, and the removal of impurities will add freshness.

Regular use of gommage is a good way to maintain clean and healthy skin, its youth and beauty.

Do not clean using any method while:

  • open wounds or unhealed sutures;
  • a significant number of purulent rashes;
  • rosacea – persistent redness of the skin of various origins;
  • intolerance to the ingredients that make up the product.

Carrying out the procedure, how to use it

This simple procedure requires minimal preparation, time to perform and some precautions after the procedure.

The effect will be better if you moisturize your face first. There is no need to steam your face (this action is not as safe as it seems); it is enough to take a shower, bath, or simply wash your face with warm water without drying your face completely. The goal is to loosen contaminants and thereby ensure penetration of the active substance to problem areas.

Apply gommage cream/paste/ointment onto the prepared face with light movements. The skin is not stretched or massaged. The area around the eyes is protected from contact with the product.

After application, it is recommended to rest, preferably lying down with your eyes closed. You can put cotton pads soaked in a weak tea decoction or parsley juice on your eyelids, this will eliminate swelling around the eyes, or simply apply cream. Explication period – 15 – 20 minutes. During this time, the product will dry and turn into a mask. Remove the mask by gradually and carefully rolling from bottom to top.

Important: If the mask is overexposed and it is difficult to separate, do not try to remove it in any way - this can cause skin irritation, epilation of vellus hair and stretching of the epidermis. The mask is simply washed off.

If the procedure is carried out correctly, there is no need to wash your face or apply moisturizer. On the day of cleaning after the procedure, you should not go out into the bright sun. without protective equipment.

Result

With systematic cleansing improves complexion, eliminates irritation, flaking, tendency to dryness and the formation of fine wrinkles. Skin tone and resistance to adverse factors increases.

Decorative cosmetics apply smoother, not emphasizing, but veiling imperfections. Removing makeup also becomes less labor-intensive. Gommage is carried out constantly, 1 – 3 times a week. Course use is less effective.

Possible complications

In addition to the moisturizing and nourishing base, the cream contains acids. They are the ones who dissolve and separate skin particles. Most often these are healthy fruit acids that do not cause chemical burns. However, natural fruits, especially citrus fruits, can cause a severe allergic reaction.

Before the procedure, it is recommended to conduct a sensitivity test, familiar to everyone who has ever dyed their own hair: apply a small amount of product to the area behind the ear, the back of the wrist or the inner surface of the elbow and wait 20-30 minutes. If there is no reaction, you can begin peeling.

This precaution should not be neglected, especially if you are prone to allergies or have an unusual composition of the cosmetic product.

When going out into the sun after the procedure without applying a protective cream, an incorrect skin reaction is quite likely: the process of formation of freckles and age spots may begin where there were none before. This is true for any type of peeling.

Average prices and reviews

When carrying out gommage at home, its cost is low: the price of a tube in 100 – 500 rubles. enough for several procedures. If you prepare the product yourself, you need to spend time, but almost no money is needed. The service will cost more in the salon.

The opinions of ladies who use gommage are neutral or positive.

  • Anna, 25 years old: “I got acquainted with gommage several years ago - I saw a cream on sale that had this unfamiliar word on it. The seller only said that it was for facial cleansing. I tried it, but at first I didn’t understand - during the application process I didn’t feel the scrub particles as I was used to. But she held out for time, and the result pleased me. Now I do it once a week, sometimes 2 times a week.”
  • Svetlana, 33 years old: “I have thin skin that is prone to dryness. The pores are small, but still need periodic cleansing. Scrubs are not suitable for me; they leave my nose red. I chose gommage - it cleans gently, removes peeling and blackheads. Rest while the mask is drying has a very beneficial effect on your well-being. I dream of finding the time to make a natural gommage cream myself.”
  • Margarita, 28 years old: “Gommage for me is not quite what I need. Of course, there is no harm, but I don’t feel much benefit either. Regular cleansing with a scrub suits my oily skin well, and gommage is only good for relaxation during the procedure. I do it when I need to apply a mask on my eyes - still lie there for 20 minutes. I use the product from a tube, a friend gave it to me.”

Gommage is one of many skin care procedures. The result, as with other cleansing methods, depends on regular use and choosing the appropriate remedy.
