It’s hard to imagine celebrating the New Year without a green tree, a cheerful feast, and Olivier salad. And a mandatory attribute - tangerines. It is tangerines, and not other orange citrus fruits. Do you know why tangerines became a symbol of the New Year? A long time ago, about 1000 years ago, in China, according to the teachings of Feng Shui, tangerines were a symbol of wealth, success, love, happiness and longevity. When the Chinese came to visit, they brought with them a couple of bright orange fruits, thereby saying that he wished the owners financial well-being, a long and happy life. The departing guest was also given a couple of tangerines. Because a pair of mandarin oranges in Chinese is close to the meaning of “gold” and signified wealth.
Tangerines appeared in our country only in 1963. Then, for the first time, a dry cargo ship filled to the brim with boxes of tangerines arrived in Leningrad. Since tangerines ripen by November, this particular citrus fruit is brought to us for the New Year.

Today, store shelves are bursting with a huge selection of fruits. But without tangerines, New Year is no longer a holiday. Tangerines are used to fill beautiful vases, decorate Christmas trees, put them in gift bags, and prepare fruit salads. Tangerine peel is used to make New Year's compositions. Tangerines are truly considered the fruit of joy. He ate the tangerine, made a rose out of the peel, decorated the branches of the Christmas tree with this tangerine rose, put a candle on it and enjoy! The room becomes more beautiful and festive. And the unique smell of childhood, New Year, the smell of a Christmas tree and sunny fruits remains in the air for a long time. Tasty, healthy and beautiful! Making such decorations can be done together with children. They will definitely enjoy eating tangerines and decorating the tree.

Today I want to offer you a master class on making a topiary tree - happiness from tangerine peel.

Some tips for beginners.

Topiary is the name of small original trees, for the production of which natural and artificial materials are used. Topiary is decorative in nature. What it will be made of depends only on the author’s imagination. And the size of the tree also depends on fantasy, imagination and hard work. They can be small from 15 cm to half a meter. Topiary can be a good gift and interior decoration for any occasion.
And so, if you decide to make a topiary with your own hands, you should know that the tree consists of several elements: the base, the trunk, the crown, and the stand. Each of these elements has different shapes and materials. For the base, a ball or topiary in the shape of a heart is most often used. The trunk can be a thick wire, a wooden stick entwined with twine, or ribbon. The crown is a huge space for imagination. Here you can use everything you can find in the house: corrugated paper, paper napkins, nylon and satin ribbons, felt and organza. Buttons, beads, shells, coffee, artificial and fresh flowers, natural materials and much more look good. The stand must be chosen depending on the idea and design. It can be any flower pot, a children's bucket, a watering can, any jar decorated with fabric, lace, or decorated using the decoupage technique. You decide. And most importantly, carefully think over the idea and choose the necessary material for decoration. The idea and decoration will depend on the purpose of the tree. Well, now it's time to get to work.

Step-by-step execution of work.

Let's prepare the base. Let's make it from newspapers. Carefully crumple the newspaper, turning it into a “bun”. We wrap it with threads, forming an even ball.

Cover the ball with white paper napkins. Now it looks more aesthetically pleasing.

For the trunk, take a simple wooden stick. Let's make a hole in the ball and insert it, after smearing it with glue. Now our ball is holding well.

We insert the foam into the pot, make a hole, pour glue and install the barrel. The base for the topiary is ready and waiting for its decoration.

Now let's take on the tangerines. It’s good if you select tangerines of the same size. It is better to take fruits that are not large and have thin, easily peeled skin. Using the tip of a knife, we carefully begin to peel the tangerine in a spiral. It is better for an adult to do this work, and give the child the opportunity to enjoy the taste of a juicy, sweet fruit.

From the skin, which wriggles like a snake, we form a rose.

We do this with all fruits. For a small topiary you will need 20 -25 tangerines.

We put our tangerine “roses” on the battery. A day and you can continue working. I dry the roses by placing them on cardboard. This is what they look like now.

We begin to form the crown. Glue the “roses” using hot glue. We first have a conversation about safety rules when working with a heat gun. We start from the top of the crown. We place the “roses” close to each other. Glue dried tangerine leaves between them. I asked a seller at the market. There were tangerines with branches.

Continue gluing and enjoying. The crown is becoming more and more beautiful. Our topiary, tree of happiness is almost ready.

Wrap a green satin ribbon around the trunk and tie a bow.

We decorate the foam around the trunk with green corrugated paper. You can use sisal. And insert a twig with leaves.

Let's add dried tangerine slices and a spiral sprig to the decor. At this stage it is difficult to give advice. After all, each of us has our own taste, our own imagination. Imagine and enjoy your creation.

And to make the topiary bright and sparkling for the New Year, apply glitter gel to the leaves and “roses”.

This is what our “Tangerine Paradise” topiary looks like in all its glory.

Recently, topiaries have become increasingly popular among needlewomen. In this article we will tell you how to make a tangerine tree with your own hands. You may need a variety of materials: flower pots, pebbles, polystyrene foam, cotton wool, glue, artificial leaves, felt, tangerines, foam balls, paints, wire, tape, beads, rhinestones and other decorative items.

do it yourself (master class): creating the base

First you need to make a base for the tree. Buy a flower pot, pebbles and a piece of foam. To make the tangerine tree you created with your own hands stable, pour pebbles into the pot. Then cut out the foam so it can be placed in the pot. Trim the edges. Then carefully place the foam into the pot. For greater strength, you can secure it with glue.

Then you need to make a strong and strong trunk that will not bend under the weight of the decor. To do this, take several thick wires from forty to fifty centimeters long and with a diameter of at least two millimeters. It is better to take rigid wire, as it is less susceptible to external pressure.

Fasten the pieces of wire with threads or thinner wire, the diameter of which does not exceed half a millimeter. Deepen the wire in the middle into the foam. Secure it with glue. For greater stability, take paper and PVA glue. Tear the paper into small pieces and cover the base of the trunk and the foam itself with it. Wait until the product dries. Now let's get down to the fun part - creating the crown and decoration.

Create a crown from artificial leaves

To make a crown, direct the wire in different directions. To make additional branches, screw the wire to the trunk. To conveniently secure the parts, you can use either self-hardening plastic or papier-mâché. As you can see, creating a tangerine tree with your own hands, a photo of which can be seen in this article, is quite easy.

To make a crown that looks like a real one, buy tape, artificial leaves on wire and tangerines. First, wrap the trunk with brown tape and the branches with green tape. If necessary, the tape can be tinted with acrylic paint. Then screw the leaves and tangerines to the tree. Make sure that the tangerine tree you made yourself remains stable.

By the way, leaves made from corrugated paper look very beautiful. True, it will be quite difficult to care for such a product, since it cannot be wiped with water.

And another manufacturing option is leaves made from foamiran. This material can be heated, stretched and dyed. From foamiran you can get a very realistic and beautiful tangerine tree. It is advisable not to tint the leaves with dry pastel, as it crumbles easily.

Felt crown

Making a crown out of felt is more difficult. You will need to buy hard felt no more than two millimeters thick. Cut out leaves from felt. One tangerine tree, created with your own hands, will take about fifty leaves. Then take a wire with a diameter of no more than half a millimeter and cut it into pieces ten to twenty millimeters long. Connect the felt and wire. It's quite simple! Simply pass one end of the wire through the felt and wrap the other end to the wood.

Make fruits too from felt and filler. To do this, take rectangular pieces of felt and sew them together with the short sides. Then tighten one side with thread, stuff the tangerine with filler and tighten the other side. Place the fruits on the wire and also attach them to the tree. Then wrap the trunk and branches with tape. If desired, tint the wood with acrylic paint.

Decor for tangerine tree

So you have learned how to make a tangerine tree with your own hands. What about the decor? If you want to decorate your product, you can use the following materials:

  1. Beads. You can sheathe felt with it. In addition, you can make leaves entirely from this material. The work will be very painstaking, but the result will be amazing.
  2. Sequins. They can be combined with beads. Covered with sequins, they look very nice.
  3. Braid, ribbons and mesh. You can decorate a tangerine tree, collected by yourself, with lace or, for example, ribbons. In addition, flowers from
  4. Paint and glitter. You can paint the leaves with acrylic paint with a pearlescent effect. In addition, the tree can be decorated with sparkles, which will give it a festive look.

How to care for a tangerine tree?

If you made leaves from foamiran or used ready-made ones, then you can wipe the wood you made with your own hands with a damp cloth. If you assembled it from corrugated paper, then you can only do dry cleaning. But with felt it’s a little more complicated. A tangerine tree made with your own hands from this material will sooner or later have to be disposed of.

It will not be difficult to make such a tangerine tree with your own hands. It is enough to have the necessary materials at hand and apply your rich imagination to the creation.

Topiary of tangerines. Master Class

For such an original tangerine topiary you will need:

  • tangerines;
  • a beautiful flowerpot or suitable flower pot;
  • 2 bars of piaflora (this is a special synthetic foam material that florists use to attach plants. It cuts well with a knife and absorbs moisture, but remains hard and elastic. Sold in any flower shop);
  • hard branch;
  • green leaves (salal or snowberry leaves were used for this topiary);
  • a skein of gray woolen thread;
  • small pine branches;
  • a piece of wire;
  • a little granulated sugar.

Progress

1. Tie the tangerines tightly with thread. Then thread a piece of wire through the threads and fold it in half so that it is convenient to later attach the tangerines to the piaflora.

2. Wet the piaflora block, cut it with a knife and place it in a pot.

3. Insert a dry branch into the flowerpot - the basis of the future topiary.

4. At the top of the branch, attach a piece of piaflora, cut in the shape of a ball.

5. Insert the tangerines evenly into the piaflower.

6. Fill the empty spaces with green leaves rolled into a tube. To prevent them from unfurling, pierce the middle of the leaf with a cutting, as shown in the photo.

7. Pine branches will complete the New Year's composition. Create a kind of frost on the needles by simply moistening the branches with water and lightly rolling them in granulated sugar.

8. Wrap the piaflora in the pot with coniferous branches. The tangerine topiary is ready!

Tangerine trees. How to make blank balls for artificial trees.

I love tangerines. I recently published a master class on a tangerine tree, but in PM there are a lot of questions about how to replace the foam ball for the base of the trees. Under the cut you will see a very easy solution to this issue using toilet paper and a balloon.

This is how I make blanks for trees. Maybe this is not new, someone probably does this too... and yet!

It’s so simple, even my little son became interested in making these balls. We inflate the balloon to the desired size, and cover it with paper (we do this from good, soft toilet paper and napkins), wetting the whole thing with a sponge soaked in water with the addition of PVA.... we make more layers so that it doesn’t get too much fragile... at the bottom, where the “pip” of the ball is, we leave a “window”. when it dries, deflate it and remove the ball. The hole that remains at the bottom is suitable for attaching the barrel. Once the barrel is attached, you can take the napkins again and plug the hole :) the ball is light but very durable.
