Original handmade boxes. How to make a gift box with your own hands from cardboard. Boxes made of cardboard and paper, different patterns

Gift wrapping is a responsible business, because even the most desirable thing, carelessly wrapped in a newspaper or stuffed into a simple package, will not make the impression that the giver is counting on.

Of course, buying gift wrapping today is not a problem. The stores will offer a wide variety of options: boxes, bags, etc. But still, standard packaging will not be able to convey the range of feelings that you want to put into a gift.

Therefore, many are interested in how to make a gift box using improvised materials.

We decorate ready-made boxes

The easiest way is to decorate the finished box of a suitable size. This can be done in different ways. Colored paper, bows, decorative flowers, beads, sequins, pieces of lace, elegant braid, etc. are used for decoration.

How best to decorate the box, you will need to decide for yourself, depending on the occasion of the gift and the personality of the person being presented. It is clear that if a gift is made for a girl, more decorative elements can be used. And if this is a gift for a man, it is better to show restraint. If desired, you can use a photo of the person for whom the gift is intended to decorate the box.

When designing, it is advisable to emphasize on what occasion the gift is given. For example, if it is New Year's holidays, then use snowflakes, Christmas tree cones, tinsel, etc. in decoration.

simple box

It is far from always possible to find a ready-made box of the right size, so it is very easy to fold a box of paper or cardboard.

Even a child will make the simplest version of the box, for its manufacture you will need:

  • cardboard (preferably colored);
  • ruler;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • hole puncher;
  • ribbon.

If there is no colored cardboard at hand, you can paste over the most ordinary white cardboard with colored paper.

First of all, you need to draw a template on a sheet of cardboard:

  • in the center of the sheet you need to draw a square, this will be the bottom of our box;
  • now on each side of the square we draw four more squares of the same size as the first one, we have a figure resembling a cross;
  • now carefully round the top corners of the four squares (except the central one).

To make it even, you should use a template or compasses:

  • the resulting template should be cut out and the side parts bent up;
  • in the upper part of each side part, holes should be punched with a hole punch;
  • thread the ribbon through the holes and tie it with a bow.

Such a homemade box can be decorated to your liking using rhinestones, beads, ribbon bows. But according to the described technology, it is worth making only a small box, since a large one will not keep its shape.

square box

To make a rectangular, or rather a square box of colored paper with your own hands, you will have to tinker. Here is a description of the work sequence:

  • take a square sheet of thin cardboard or colored paper;

  • draw two lines diagonally with a pencil;

  • we bend one of the corners of the square so that the corner falls exactly at the point of intersection of the diagonal lines;

  • the second time we bend the same edge of the cardboard square so that the edge of the fold falls on the diagonal line;

  • we do the same with all other corners of the square;

  • as a result, we have a sheet divided into small squares by fold lines;

  • we outline the contour of the bottom in the center, consisting of four squares;

  • now from two opposite corners of the case cuts to the intended bottom.

Now we begin to fold the box, the assembly scheme is as follows:

  • fold the square from the wide (not cut) sides with corners to the center;

  • then raise the sidewalls;

  • we bend the paper from the wide side, forming the two remaining sides of the box;

  • now we wrap the cut out parts of the square, finally forming the box.

If you need to make a lid for the resulting package, you need to make a slightly larger box in the same way. That is, at the first stage, make a square 3-5 mm larger than the first.

Having mastered this technique, you can learn how to make boxes of various shapes: in the form of a pyramid, cone, cylinder, etc.

book box

Today, instead of a material gift, the hero of the occasion is often given money; for a cash gift, a box made in the form of a book is very well suited. Let's see how it can be done:

  • first of all, you need to make a rectangular box of the right size out of cardboard, it is important that the banknotes that you plan to give as a gift fit freely in it;

  • now you should start assembling the "cover". To do this, cut out two rectangular sheets of cardboard along the length and width of 1 cm more than the manufactured box. You also need to cut out another strip, its length should be equal to the length of the sheets, and the width should be 0.5 cm more than the height of the box made;

  • we take the material from which we will make the binding, it can be plain or colored paper, thick fabric (for example, denim) or artificial leather;

  • lay out the blanks on the material by placing a narrow strip between two cardboard sheets. The gaps between the parts are 2 mm, a three-centimeter allowance is left at the edges;

  • glue the cardboard to the material and cut out the blank along the marked lines, cutting off the corners;

  • now you need to wrap the allowances and glue them to the cardboard, we got a kind of book binding;

  • on one of the inner surfaces of the binding we glue the box made earlier;

  • glue ribbons in the center of the upper and lower “lids”, with which our box will be closed.

Now it remains only to decorate the upper part of the overpayment of our box-book. It can be stolen with flowers and bows, beads and sparkles. The exclusive box is ready.

Of course, you will have to tinker with the manufacture of gift wrapping. Perhaps not everything will work out the first time, but with a little practice, it will be possible to make a unique package that cannot be found anywhere else.

Giving gifts is just as pleasant as receiving them, but in addition to the prepared surprise, packaging is also important, which will give it a complete and presentable look. But in order to understand how best to pack a gift in gift paper, you should study several features and options for this procedure in order to choose the most optimal one for yourself.

The most common way to decorate a gift is gift paper.

It comes in several types, each of which has its own differences:

  • Sheet glossy paper. In this case, the paper can be of various colors, both monophonic and multi-colored. The density of the sheets is minimal, which allows them to be used in various interesting wrapping options.

Most often, this type of paper is used for packing boxes in the shape of a square and a rectangle.

  • Kraft. It is characterized by increased wear resistance and density. The kraft paper is much rougher to the touch than the previous version and has a ribbed surface with a cross section.

Great for gifts in retro or Provence style, as well as large sizes. Such packaging requires additional decoration on top.

  • Silence. This type of packaging is papyrus paper. Its thin airy structure allows you to give a gift an elegant and elegant look.

Tissue is also used as a filler in a gift box. It is convenient to wrap objects of complex geometric shapes in this paper, which gives them additional volume.

  • Polysilk. It is a stretch film on which a metallic shade is applied. Happens only in one-color option.

It is used for wrapping objects with sharp corners, as well as toys. In this case, the gift is placed in the middle of the packing list, and the edges rise up and are decorated with a bow made of the same material.

  • Corrugated paper. Large embossed material is used for gift wrapping. Often this look is complemented by polysilk bows, which gives the package a sophisticated look.

You can wrap any objects in such paper: boxes, bottles, tubes.

  • Mulbury. Designer look of crumpled paper. Available in various colors, and in some cases has an ornament or pattern.

It is used as a wrapper for objects of any shape. If necessary, the gift is complemented by a small decor on top.

Choice of colors

How to pack a gift in gift paper, as well as give it sophistication and presentability, will help to study the features of using different shades of material.

The packaging and the item inside must be in harmony with each other., as the mismatch of colors can spoil the overall impression of the surprise.

Primary colors:

  • Yellow. Solar color, reminiscent of a ray of sunshine. A gift wrapper made in this tone gives a warm and cozy shade. Ideal for giving a surprise a childish spontaneity and playfulness. It is not recommended to mix with other colors. But you can add purple, brown, blue or green decor on top.
  • Orange. A shade that personifies violent positive emotions, as well as setting up admiration. But at the same time, it is important not to overdo it, since it is this color that can both decorate a gift and spoil it. It is ideal to combine an orange wrap with green, yellow, brown, purple, blue and red.

  • Pink. Great for gifts for women, as it evokes touching and joyful emotions. It is best to combine it with all shades of red and purple, and an additional decor of a white shade will help to effectively emphasize the tone.
  • Violet. This option is ideal for a mysterious and extraordinary gift, as it symbolizes secrecy, mystery and fantasy. It is best to combine this tone with white, silver, yellow and pink for gift wrapping.
  • Red. This tone of packaging means fiery feelings and passion, and sometimes symbolizes irritation and anger. Therefore, giving preference to this color for gift wrapping, you should weigh everything if we are not talking about surprises for the New Year, since red is very relevant for this holiday.

It is ideal to combine red packaging with silver, gold, white, pink and gray tones.

  • Blue. It is recommended to use this tone for wrapping a gift for a man, as it is associated with success, nobility, fidelity. The dark blue color harmonizes perfectly with blue, silver, white, yellow, and for lighter tones it is recommended to select pale shades of yellow and pink.
  • White. This tone is universal, as it can be combined with any bright color. But you should not give preference to it as the main color for packaging, as it is cold and therefore the impression of the gift will be the same. It is best used for contrast, using details in this shade, which will give the surprise a sense of celebration.
  • Green. It is considered a neutral shade, which is appropriate in any case. The variety of tones of this color allows you to choose the right option for packaging. Green tone symbolizes wealth and respect. Dark shades are recommended to be combined with yellow, orange, white and gold, and light colors - with brown, gray, yellow.

  • Grey. Used to wrap a gift that symbolizes nobility and restraint. And to give sophistication, you should combine it with red, pink and purple hues.
  • Brown and black. These tones are rarely used, although they are recommended for a formal gift. But in order to dilute the tone, it is recommended to complement the wrapper with details in silver, purple or gold.
  • Silver, steel and gold. It is best to use these colors as a complement to the main color. But at the same time, it should be borne in mind that steel and silver are cold tones, and therefore they should set off the packaging made in the same palette.

But it is better to decorate a gift made in warm colors with details in gold tone. In addition, these colors are successfully combined with white and black.

In the case of choosing multi-colored gift paper, the details should be made from the tone present in the package, but not dominant.

This will unobtrusively emphasize the gift and give it a sophisticated look.

Standard size box packing

How to pack a gift in gift paper of a standard size: compliance with certain rules for the procedure will help. For the first time, you should practice on the newspaper, and after working out the procedure, use the prepared material.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Measure the required amount of paper. To do this, put the box in the center face down and leave a few centimeters of paper on the sides so that it is completely enough for all sides.
  2. Make a 1 cm fold on the vertical side of the paper and stick double-sided tape to it without removing the protective layer on the other side. Connect both sides so that they fit snugly into the box. After that, glue them according to the proven principle so that the junction is exactly in the center. If everything is done correctly, then the seam will be almost invisible.
  3. On the side, fold the top edge of the paper to fit the box. Then wrap the valves on the side. And stick adhesive tape on the edge (1 cm) of the bottom side without removing the protective layer. Bend it and see that the seam is exactly in the center. Only then glue it on.
  4. Turn the box over with the seam down and make sure the packaging is tight.
  5. Decorate the box with a ribbon or a bow, choosing them taking into account the characteristics of the main shade.

Square or rectangular

Most often, gifts already have their factory packaging in the form of a square or rectangular box, but to give the surprise a more sophisticated look, you need to wrap it in beautiful gift paper.

How to wrap a square or rectangular gift:

  1. Spread the prepared material on the table with the reverse side up.
  2. Wrap the box with paper on all sides and leave an additional margin of 4-5 cm. After that, cut off a piece from the roll.
  3. Make a 1 cm fold along one of the long edges and stick double-sided tape over it without removing the protective layer from above.
  4. Fix the second long edge also with a small piece of adhesive tape 1.5 cm further from the center of the box.
  5. Put a prepared fold on top, but so that it passes exclusively in the center. After making sure of this, remove the protective layer and stick.
  6. To wrap the two remaining sides, you should initially bend the side flaps tightly.
  7. Then make a 1 cm fold along the edge of the bottom side of the paper, and stick double-sided adhesive tape on top.
  8. Press the top edge firmly against the box and fix in the center with a small piece of adhesive tape.
  9. After that, lay the prepared lower edge on top with a fold so that it runs exactly in the center of the side.
  10. If everything matches, remove the protective layer of adhesive tape and stick it tightly.

As a result, the central seam can be hidden with a satin ribbon of the desired color.

Long box

To give a gift in a long box a presentable look, you must adhere to a certain course of action:

  • Measure the length and width of the box.
  • Cut off a strip of paper according to the calculations obtained, adding a margin of 3 cm.
  • Spread the prepared sheet wrong side up on a hard surface.
  • Center the box.
  • Make a 1 cm fold along the bottom edge and stick double-sided tape on top of it.
  • Fold the top side tightly along the edge of the box and secure with a small piece of adhesive tape.
  • Put the prepared fold on top and glue evenly.
  • From the remaining sides, it is necessary to bend the side flaps inward to form a triangle.
  • Then tightly fix the top edge on the box.
  • At the bottom, make a 1.5 cm bend and stick adhesive tape on top.
  • After that, fix it on top of the previous layer.

  1. Measure the height and width of the box and, adding 3 cm to the results, cut off a strip of gift paper.
  2. Turn the box on its side, wrap it completely, leaving a margin of 1.5 cm above and below, but after removing the lid.
  3. Carefully wrap the remaining edges deep into and down the box, fixing them with tape.
  4. Cut out a circle from gift paper, the diameter of which will be 0.5 cm smaller than the bottom of the gift, and glue it.

To pack a gift in a flat box, it is better to use the following optimal option:

  • Measure the height and width of the box.
  • Calculate the required size of a piece of paper by adding the value of the length and twice the result of the width of the gift.

  • Lay the gift across on the back of the paper.
  • Glue a small piece of tape to the bottom corner of the paper and fix it in the center of the box.
  • From above, you should fix the opposite corner of the paper according to the same principle.
  • Bend the ends on the side and make bends inward 1.5-2 cm along the remaining sides.
  • Alternately fix the 2 remaining sides with adhesive tape in the center.
  • Mask the place of fixation with additional decor.

custom size

Sometimes gifts have a non-standard shape, which complicates their packaging process a bit.

In this case, you can resort to such tricks:

  1. Cut out a base from thick cardboard, the size of which should be equal to the diameter of the gift.
  2. Using the same principle, cut a strip of corrugated paper or polysilk, adding a margin of 2 cm.
  3. Make a 1 cm bend along the edge on the side, and glue double-sided tape on top without removing the protective layer from the top side.
  4. Fix the bottom edge of the paper from below in the center of the prepared base with adhesive tape, creating decorated folds.
  5. Place the box with the gift inside, and seal the edges on the side, laying the prepared fold on top.
  6. Tie the top of the wrapper with a colorful ribbon.

How to wrap a big gift

Sometimes the size of a gift can significantly exceed the standards - just paste over the factory packaging with the material you like and decorate it with a satin ribbon or bow on top.

In the case of a huge gift, it is enough to wrap it with a film or cover it with gift paper, and decorate it with additional decor on top. Such packaging is easy to remove later when presenting a gift.

If the gift is small

If the gift fits in a small box, then you should not burden it too much with a wrapper.

It is better to use the following packing option:

  • Cut out a square from gift paper, the length of the sides of which should be 2 times the height and width of the gift.
  • Place the box in the center across the paper.
  • Raise the ends of the material up, connecting them in the center.
  • Fix with a thin tape and carefully straighten the edges.

Packing box diagrams

After analyzing several MKs for packaging, I found an option that suits me so far. So you can make a box of any size and color for a jewelry box, plate, etc. There is nothing new in the box layout itself. The main thing that I "invented" for myself is the manufacture of my "designer" paper. It's hard to find beautiful paper in a small town, and here's what I propose to do.
1. Materials:
- whatman paper or cardboard,
- napkin or corrugated paper
- sheet of tracing paper
- PVA glue
- scissors
- ruler
- pencil

2. Determine the size of the box, then to draw a diagram.
The size of the bottom of the lower part: add 1 cm to the size of the product itself.
The size of the side parts is equal to the height of the product or slightly higher.
The size of the folds for the lower part: 1 cm less than the size of the side part.
Cap size: 0.5 or 1 cm more than the bottom.
I make the size of the side parts of the lid 3 cm.
The size of the folds for the lid is 2.5 cm. (For a simple box, you can do without them)

For example: the size of the box is 5X5X4. Box dimensions: bottom 6x6 cm; sidewalls 5cm; fold 4 cm. Lid 7x7 cm, sides 3 cm, fold 2.5 cm.

Now we determine the dimensions of the square, which will be the basis of our scheme. We add 4+5+6+5+4=24cm. This is the length of the square, which we will draw on whatman paper.
In fact, making all the calculations is not as difficult as it seems))) If you do it once and understand the principle, you will easily make them in your head without any papers and notes.
3. We draw a square on a Whatman paper, in our case with a long side = 24 cm. Cut it out.

4. Now we mark the square on each side according to the scheme: 4cm - 5cm - 6cm - 5cm - 4cm. We connect all the points, we get such a scheme.

Here are shaded those parts that are then cut off.
5. Now, in fact, we start making paper. To do this, you can use a regular napkin of a suitable pattern and size. Or corrugated paper, then the box will be plain. The square that we cut out of whatman paper. lubricate with PVA. Here it is important to coat the entire surface well, especially the edges, but there should not be too much glue so that the napkin does not get wet.
While the glue dries slightly, iron the napkin with a hot iron so that there are no wrinkles. Corrugated paper can not be ironed. Then we put a napkin on whatman paper, cover it with a sheet of tracing paper and carefully iron it with an iron. I did it neatly not the first time, some skill is needed here))) That's what happens.

6. Now we cut off the extra parts of our square. We get such a figure.

7. We make cuts along the red lines.

8. Carefully bend everything with a ruler

9. We wrap the valves and bends inside and get a pretty box. More precisely, its lower part.

10. For the cover of the box, we repeat all the operations, only the dimensions of the square will be different. In our example, 2.5cm + 3cm + 7cm + 3cm. + 2.5cm = 13 cm
As a result of all the described manipulations, such a box appears

Everything is done quickly enough, in about an hour I did 6 such things

And this is what the finished product looks like in a beautiful package.

Love to make gifts with your own hands? Looking for new packaging ideas? Now you will learn how to make a cardboard box with your own hands. The schemes given in the text can be printed and used unchanged. If you like to bring something of your own, refine them as you wish.

Which form to choose

You may never have guessed how easy and quick it is to make a cardboard box with your own hands. Schemes and blanks are very different, respectively, and the final configuration of products is very different. It is often said that beautiful packaging is already half the gift. If you want to surprise with your souvenir, come up with an unusual box shape. At the same time, not even additionally decorated, but simply made from a colored sheet, the packaging will look impressive.

In the event that you do not want the attention to be diverted to the packaging, but it is needed simply for safety and ease of transportation, the usual shape in the form of a cube or parallelepiped will suffice. However, it is worth considering that you are preparing for the holiday, so it is good to add beautiful decor to the usual configuration. Any of the options can be used, and making a box according to a ready-made template is not difficult, even if you have never done it.

What will be required

You need to prepare the following so that you get a beautiful do-it-yourself cardboard box:

  • Schemes, or, as they are also called, sweeps.
  • Cardboard (white, colored, decorative).
  • Printer or if you build a template yourself.
  • Scissors or knife.
  • Knitting needle, non-writing pen, or similar tool to draw invisible grooves along future fold lines.
  • Glue or heat gun.
  • Decorative elements (satin ribbons, stickers, bows, flowers).

As you can see, the work on creating beautiful packaging will not cause much trouble. Complex devices are not needed. If you do not have a thermal gun and a printer, you can do without them by using your own construction of a box scan with a pencil and a ruler and gluing with ordinary PVA or a quick-fix composition.

Manufacturing technology

Consider how a gift card is made of cardboard. The scheme of work will be as follows:

  1. Find a template that suits your configuration.
  2. Print it on a printer either immediately on a large cardboard format, if possible, or on paper sheets, which can then be glued together and transferred to a cardboard blank. It is most convenient, of course, to work with boxes whose scans fit on A3 or even A4 format. This is usually the maximum capacity of a standard home printer.
  3. So, in front of you is a packaging template obtained in any way. Cut it out of the sheet along the contour and make cuts in the right places where gluing will take place.
  4. Take the knitting needle or whatever tool you prepared and run it along all the lines where the folds will go. It is better to do this on the reverse side, and not on the front. In professional slang, this operation is called creasing, and in printing houses, of course, it is performed by a machine. Such grooves prevent the cardboard from creasing during folding, that is, bending. So do not neglect it, otherwise the box may turn out to be sloppy and deformed.
  5. Make folds along the appropriate guides.
  6. Glue a three-dimensional shape from a flat blank.
  7. Decorate the package with satin ribbon ties, a bow or something else.

Do-it-yourself cardboard box: diagrams

The square pack is the most commonly used. The options are different, both solid and consisting of two parts - the base and the cover. It's easier to make boxes from one piece. Such packaging can be closed with ties or with the help of a cardboard "tongue" that goes into a slot in the opposite part of the box. Below is a simple cube-shaped package.

As you can see, the scan is based on a square. The top of the product looks like a "roof" when assembled. To fasten the four parts of the top, you can use a beautiful ribbon.

Do-it-yourself cardboard box: simple but unusual schemes

If you want to make a package with an unusual shape, use one of the following models. The first photo shows the simplest version. It is very easy to make as there are only four folds to make. At the top, the box is assembled due to the slot and the fastening element included in it.

If you have a triangular souvenir, use the following package. The development, although it looks quite complicated, the assembly is easy and fast. The main thing is to carefully draw the fold lines. The gluing elements are small, made in the form of triangles.

According to the following template, a beautiful do-it-yourself rounded cardboard box can be made. The diagram is also simple and clear. The most important thing is to evenly draw arcuate fold lines. It depends on how neatly the shape of the package is formed.

How to decorate the box

You have figured out the technology for creating the base, but just white packaging is not suitable for a gift. It should complement and decorate your souvenir. You can turn an ordinary box into a masterpiece of artistic craftsmanship in the following ways:

  • Choose beautiful cardboard or thick paper (designer or for children's creativity). Sheets are metallized, mother-of-pearl with embossing, patterns and other decor options.
  • Cut out the second unfolding of the box from thin packaging or other paper used in arts and crafts, and glue it on top of the base. This option is suitable when you need to make a box of very thick cardboard, which is not possible to find with a decorative surface.
  • Apply drawings or patterns to the box with paints using a brush, stencils, using stickers, decoupage napkins.
  • If you are proficient in computer graphic editors, you can come up with your own box design by adding any images to the selected outline before printing, including photorealistic ones, for example, even with the birthday boy himself. The one to whom you give such a gift will definitely be surprised. It should only be taken into account that if you are going to print on colored cardboard, all your pictures will acquire the appropriate shade, so you will either have to color-correct the workpiece, or not use colors that are unacceptable to change (portrait photos).

There are as many options for decorating a product as there are possible scan patterns. It's good to combine different ideas.

So, you saw how easy it is to make a cardboard box with your own hands. The diagrams above are easy to use to create beautiful packaging for a souvenir for any occasion. By scaling the templates, boxes of different sizes can be made identical in shape. Create, decorate, surprise your friends and relatives with your skill.
