1. Cut the fabric into strips.

For the smallest ones (or for a short pack) you will need strips measuring 15x50 cm. You need at least 40-60 such strips for kids. For the rest, see"Calculation of fabric."

Advice:The mesh (tulle) is well cut into several layers. Therefore, first fold the fabric in several layers, and then cut in strips of the desired size.

You can use fabric of the same color or alternate different colors. Depending on your imagination and purpose, the skirt can turn out to be multi-colored, even up to the color of the rainbow.

2. We sew the elastic band into a circle or tie it in a knot. We stretch the elastic band over the leg or the back of a chair.

3. We take a strip of fabric by the middle of its length and tie it to an elastic band with a regular double knot. If you want the skirt to not be full (look to the floor), tie a loop knot.

IMPORTANT:The knot should not overtighten the elastic band, but should not dangle from it either.

ADVICE:To make tying a knot easier, place a ruler over the elastic or cut a piece of thick cardboard the width of the elastic. Tie knots around the ruler and then simply remove it.

4. Tie the knots tightly together so that the elastic is not visible until you have completed the entire circle.

5. If necessary, trim the skirt. To do this, squeeze the ends of the fabric tightly in your hand and trim the ends (do not overdo it).

Calculation of the amount of fabric

Sew the edges of the elastic with a zigzag.

Stripes on a wide elastic band can be attached differently:

A piece of tulle is placed over the prepared wide elastic band.
The bottom of both halves is equalized.
The strip is tied with a knot in such a way that a tight loop is formed, but the elastic is not deformed.
A second knot is tied and pulled tightly under the first.
The remaining strips are secured in the same way.

Step-by-step production:

Strips of length 60,80,100,120,140 cm are prepared from tulle 3 m wide in 4 layers.
A 60 cm long strip is the front part. 140 cm – rear panel. The rest are cut in half, respectively, rectangles are obtained with a length of 80, 100, 120 cm and a width of 150 cm. They are located in ascending order on the side parts of the product.

To sew a tutu skirt with a train, strips of tulle of different lengths are used.

The parts are sewn together with an overlapping seam using mono-thread or thin fishing line. In one of the seams, an unsewn area of 3 cm is left in the middle for threading the elastic.
At the bottom of both layers, the assembled parts of the skirt, a rigid satin ribbon or any other elastic finishing tape is sewn, for example, a crossbar with a beautiful finish 2.5-3 cm wide. This treatment will give the product a shape and serve as a decoration for the bottom of the full skirt.

Note: Bias tape is not the best option. It will complicate the processing of the skirt and will not be as impressive due to its small width when finished. Also a bad choice would be a soft satin ribbon, especially one sewn onto hard tulle.

The finished skirt is folded so that its top layer is shorter than the bottom layer by the width of the finishing strip. The fold is stitched to the width of the elastic.
Using a safety pin, an elastic band is threaded through the unstitched area of the seam, and the edges are firmly ground down using a sewing machine.

The base-lining is 0.4 m thick silk. It’s good if the fabric is stretchy;
semi-rigid tulle from 3.5-5 m;
secret or regular zipper.

For the lining, a pattern is created - the upper part of a straight skirt. The circumference of the hips and waist is measured.

From the first girth value, the second is subtracted and divided in half, the sum S of darts is distributed as follows:

0.5xS – side dart;
0.3xS – dart of the front panel of the skirt;

We cut the tulle into strips, their length should correspond to the desired length of the skirt multiplied by 2. To do this, insert 2 narrow elastic bands into the “loops” from the wrong side in a checkerboard pattern (as shown in the photo instructions below). Length of the elastic = waist size divided by 1.5, better try it on a child; you may need a little longer.
