Denim flower

Fabric flowers are an integral element of brooches, necklaces, hairpins and headbands. Jewelry with a “floral theme” is always relevant; they emphasize a girl’s fragility, tenderness and create a romantic image. A denim flower is a stylish and unusual decoration.

Rose made of denim for decoration in the form of hairpins or brooches

We suggest making it yourself:

  • First, let's prepare a template on paper. We draw 1-15 petals of different sizes to make the flower multi-layered. The more elements, the more magnificent the decoration.
  • We transfer the sketch to denim fabric and cut out the blanks. You should get 3-4 large petals, 3-4 smaller elements and a couple of the smallest petals.
  • The edges of the petals can be processed in different ways, for example, “gutted” to create a fringe, or the edges can be folded and hemmed.
  • Let's start assembling the craft. We fold the smallest petal, sew another element next in size to it, and so on until we have sewn all the elements together.
  • To make the flower look more realistic, you can trim the edges of the fabric with a hot knife, as if turning the petals out. This creates the effect of a living rose.

Create a lush rose from pieces of jeans

You can play with the shape and size of the elements, decorate the petals with rhinestones like drops of dew, add beads or satin ribbons. This flower will become the base element for a bracelet, necklace or hair clip.

Collar necklace

From the collar of an old denim shirt, adding accessories and combining different materials, you can make an unusual holiday necklace.

A fairly simple way to create a collar from a denim shirt

We will need an old denim shirt, a satin fabric ribbon, beads, connectors and shaped metal fittings, as well as a thread and a needle.

Denim fabric is quite dense, so the threads must be strong, and the needle must have a strong shaft, a small eye and a rounded point. There are special denim needles for sewing machines.

The operating algorithm is as follows:

  • Cut three strips 2 centimeters wide. We leave two as they are, and on the third we make fringe at the edges by pulling out several longitudinal threads.
  • We make “pleating” from the fringed ribbon to make a ruffle; we sew the edges by hand or on a sewing machine to make an even circle.
  • We sew a flower or the same pleated circle from a satin ribbon and sew it to a denim blank.
  • We baste the edge of the denim strip and tighten the thread, we get a small circle. We will also sew it to the workpiece.
  • We decorate the resulting multilayer flower with beads, sew on metal fittings, and attach a metal connector from the inside.
  • Using the remaining satin and denim ribbon, we form circles in the same way, sew them together, and decorate them with a bow.
  • We sew blanks to the ends of the collar, and attach metal chains or strings of beads to the connectors.

This is something like a necklace - the stand should look like this

The elegant necklace is ready. You can experiment with decor and materials, so the decoration will have a stylish and original look.

Bead bracelet

For this master class, you need to prepare thin denim, large beads, seed beads, and small metal pendants.

Denim bracelet on a satin ladder

Tools that will be useful in this work are pliers, scissors and wire cutters. Let's start making the decoration:

  1. 1Cut a strip of denim. Its width should be slightly larger than the circumference of the beads. We measure the beads, make an allowance on the fabric, and cut out the blank.
  2. We sew the edges lengthwise, turn them inside out, pushing the fabric through the hole with scissors. It turned out to be a long tube.
  3. We insert the beads into the hole one by one. We attach the outermost one to a pin, and attach another pin to it.
  4. When the entire tube is filled with beads, sew the edges together, gathering the thread a little to close the hole. To hide small flaws, we put a metal “cap” on top, make a loop, and attach a carabiner or toggle to it.
  5. We begin to separate the beads. We gather the fabric so that the fabric tightly fits the bead inside, and we intercept each bead with thread. The result is a “caterpillar”. We decorate the places where the beads are caught by the thread with beads. We attach a toggle at the ends to create an unusual bracelet.

You can attach metal pendants like Pandora bracelets, in the form of hearts, a shoe, a key, the Eiffel Tower, or whatever your imagination suggests. You can also make a whole set consisting of a bracelet, beads and earrings. Such jewelry will complement the look in country style, boho chic, hippie and any other style.

Jeans bracelet

Any materials can be combined with denim. Jewelry made from denim and lace, satin ribbons or tulle look especially delicate and extremely feminine. An unusual combination of textures, contrasting trim, embroidery and knitted elements, buttons and beads - all this can be safely used when making original costume jewelry from denim. DIY denim accessories: a review of popular ideas

If you are going through a creative crisis and don’t know what else you can come up with, we invite you to look at a number of photos that show very extraordinary products made from denim. It turns out that you can use it to make:

  • bracelets
  • necklaces
  • brooches
  • hoops
  • earrings
  • and even butterflies

Let's talk about each of them in more detail.

Bracelets

Perhaps, one of the most beautiful decorations that can be made from leftover denim can be confidently called. They can have quite a variety of designs and sizes, which allows you to create a variety of accessories with your own hands, without worrying that someone else will have something similar.

For example, they can be easily made on a thin base, combined with chains, thin bracelets and small ones:

However, denim bracelets also look quite beautiful in the form of massive jewelry. To create the latter, just cover the wide base for the bracelet with fabric and add any accessories to it.

Small pebbles, rings, cabochons, large stones and many other elements traditionally used to decorate women's accessories are perfect for these purposes.

However, jeans can also be used to create wide woven bracelets made of leather or other dense materials. In this case, the author complemented it with a gold chain, which looks quite attractive:

As for romantically inclined people, they can easily make themselves denim bracelets with openwork lace and butterflies, which will complement any summer look.

And a few more ideas about using denim scraps:

Brooches

Among other things, handmade masters offer us to make unusual denim brooches, the rules for which simply do not exist. After all, if desired, they can resemble an ordinary one, complemented by expressive decoration, or look like a real flower with petals, decorated with a gold button in the middle.

However, they can be made voluminous if you cut a large number of circles from denim and glue them together in the form of a rose or peony.

Hoops

Well, anyone who has remarkable patience and is truly diligent will probably be able to make a cute headband with flowers from denim.

To create it, you need to cut the prepared fabric into circles of different diameters (those in the center are smaller, those on the edges of the flower are larger), coat them with glue on one side and place them on a round mold to harden. After this, collect the required number of buds and attach them to the rim.

Not wanting to bother with giving the flowers a neat, smooth shape, you can, on the contrary, make them wavy and collect them into flowers that resemble chrysanthemums:

Necklaces

Denim necklaces in many ways resemble brooches, which is why craftsmen often make them as a set. As for the most popular options for their design, most often you can see decorations consisting of flowers made from strips of denim fabric tightly twisted together.

Making flowers like this is quite simple. All that is necessary is to cut a wide strip from the fabric, fold it in half and roll it into a circle, gluing it as necessary (so as not to unwind back). After this, the peculiar flowers are glued onto a specially selected fabric for a wide necklace (it can be any thick material, leather or something like that). The final stage is sewing on ribbons and additionally decorating the product with any small details.

Also, if desired, you can always use ready-made beads instead of ribbons, and make voluminous ones instead of twisted flowers.

Alternatively, the basis for the beads can be homemade denim laces (or strings cut from something), which look pretty good in combination with white beads and a thin chain:

If you have a couple of round cabochon bases lying around somewhere, here's what you can do with them:

And if you really want to, it’s quite possible to cut out butterflies from scraps of denim:

Step-by-step master class on how to make denim:

Earrings

However, do-it-yourself accessories differ from any other in that they can be created literally in any way you like. And denim earrings are direct proof of this. After all, they can be long, round, or even have any original shape that the needlewoman gives them. Examples of work performed:

Butterflies

Perhaps, denim butterflies are among the most extraordinary products in our review. Making them is absolutely simple, and the appearance is quite decent and presentable.

All of the jewelry described above should be combined with clothes in a casual style, but under no circumstances should they be worn together with classic or formal things. Still, it should be remembered that jeans do not allow you to set a serious tone, and therefore they are most suitable for teenagers and young people who prefer a relaxed style of casual clothing.

DIY bracelets made from old jeans will be an exclusive decoration for girls aged 8-15 years. Making them is quick and easy. And they look very stylish! There are a great many options for designing a bracelet - with beads, seed beads, braid... We present some models, but they, rather, can be of the nature of general recommendations and technological and design ideas. Like any homemade jewelry, denim bracelets will certainly bear the imprint of their creator. That is why such bracelets can also become a wonderful souvenir gift for girlfriends. And you can definitely make more than one “bauble” out of old jeans!

By the way, about jeans. The most ideal option is “stretchy” jeans with lycra. This fabric makes a bracelet that fits tightly to the hand, and can be made very elegant and neat. Regular cotton jeans are fine too. Just keep in mind that they should be made exactly to size, even with a small “margin”. And they turn out a little more “unkempt” and hippieish. But this also has its own charm.

In our master class we will show you how easy it is to make a bracelet from old jeans. Girls as young as 8 years old can make such a bracelet. Denim fabric is unique, and in our master class we will try to use the interesting features of denim fabric and ready-made elements that are found in old jeans.

A great part of old jeans that works for bracelets is the crotch seam (where the two stitches go on the right side). Simply cut out a seam from old jeans, make a clasp (we'll show you how to make a simple clasp for a denim bracelet below), and the bracelet is ready.

The seam can be cut long to make several turns around the arm, or it can be made just one turn long - it’s your choice.

If you cut the denim fabric exactly along the grain and pull out the threads from the edge, you will get a beautiful edge of the bracelet that does not require additional processing.
When cutting out the crotch seam of jeans, you can adjust the width of the bracelet: you can cut the fabric close to the crotch seam - you will get a thin base, or you can cut it at a certain distance and make the bracelet wide.

For a ready-made base for a bracelet on old jeans, not only the crotch seam is suitable, but also the bottom hem of the jeans and the waistband. We will tell you how to make a bracelet from the very material of jeans in another post, but now the most interesting thing: how to decorate a denim bracelet.

To decorate the denim base, you can use any beads, old chains, rhinestones, beads, braid, lace, buttons.

We offer three options for decorating a bracelet made from old jeans.

DIY bracelet made from old jeans with beads.

We cut out a crotch seam from old jeans, with a gap of about 1.5 cm. At the bottom of the jeans, the grain threads run parallel to the crotch seam, so we take the bottom part of the jeans. Measure the length according to your arm and add a small allowance for the fastener.

We smooth the edge of the bracelet base by pulling out the threads and cutting off any uneven edges. Then we make a fringe along the edge of the bracelet, pulling out the edge threads.

We process the narrow edge of the jeans bracelet with a buttonhole stitch.

And immediately sew on the button.

We also process the other edge with a buttonhole stitch and make a loop of thread. For the loop, we make several stitches from one corner of the narrow edge of the bracelet to the other, and then we wrap the loop with a buttonhole stitch.

To decorate a bracelet with beads, take a thin needle and suitable beads. We sewed beads in chains from one seam to another. On the crotch seam there are industrial stitches that well mark the denim bracelet at equal intervals.

A bracelet made from old jeans with beads is ready.

DIY bracelet made from old jeans with zigzag braid.

This denim bracelet is easy and quick to make and looks very beautiful.

For this bracelet we also use the crotch stitch in old jeans.

Zigzag braid can be wide or narrow. In this bracelet, a narrow zigzag braid looks better; it fits right between two industrial seam lines.

We process the narrow edges of the bracelet with a loop stitch and make a clasp as in the previous bracelet.

Then we apply a zigzag braid, making a small fold at the beginning, and using a floss thread of a contrasting color in 6 folds we sew the braid to the base, as shown in the photographs.

At the end of sewing, bend the braid a little again and secure it with a small stitch.

A bracelet made from old jeans with a zigzag braid is ready.

DIY bracelet made from old jeans with chains.

This bracelet is made from the bottom hem of jeans. When cutting out the bottom hem, you won’t be able to make a nice fringed edge (the fabric doesn’t lie flat), so we cut the hem close to the seam.

We make the clasp in the same way as with the previous bracelets. If desired, you can make a button instead of a button.

The chain from old beads is sewn at the bends with two stitches.

We have shown just a few ways to decorate bracelets from old jeans. You look at what you already have at home. Old chains, beads, buttons, old mechanical watches (they have wonderful decorative gears), nuts, beads, cords - whatever your imagination tells you may come in handy.

Bird costume for girls Fabric flower - 15 master classes

This master class is about how I implemented this idea.

For the bracelet we need seams from old jeans, better with double stitching, and old metal zipper. If you don't have the old zipper, you can buy a new one.

Soldering iron Using a thin tip, we cut (melt) the fabric on one side of the zipper close to the teeth. If you don’t have a soldering iron, you can simply cut the fabric with scissors, leaving 2-3 mm. fabric near the cloves and melt the edge over a candle flame. This must be done so that the edge does not fray.

We get a strip like this.

We sew the top (outer) row through the top to the nearest row. We recess the thread between the teeth so that it is not visible. Thus, row by row we increase the circle.

Depending on the width of the bracelet, the circle of teeth can be 1-2 cm. In my bracelet, this circle is about 1.5 cm in diameter. We cut the zipper with a soldering iron, melting the fabric between the teeth. If you don’t have a soldering iron, you can cut it and be sure to melt the edge so that the teeth don’t come off.

Thus, we make the required number of such elements. You may need from 5 to 8 pieces, depending on the length of the bracelet and the distance between the elements.

We begin to cut the seam from the jeans from the side where it is folded.

On the other side, we cut the seam, leaving a strip of fabric equal to the width of the seam plus 1 - 1.5 cm.

We apply the cut strip to the hand and determine the length of the bracelet. The length of the cut strip should be made 2.5 cm less than in the finished form, because these 2.5 cm will go to the fastener. After you decide on the length of one strip, cut another exactly the same part along it.

Along the length of the denim strips, we cut off the zipper from the part that was left uncut with a soldering iron.

Using pliers, remove the teeth from each edge of the cut zipper, leaving part of the base of the zipper free from them at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. This is necessary so that when sewing the fastener you do not break the needle on the teeth, and the seam will be less rough.

You need to trim the zipper so that if you put it inside the denim seam, it will not interfere with folding the denim strip along the edge of the inner seam. Apply the zipper to the cut seam of the jeans so that the teeth of the zipper are fully exposed. Secure with a basting stitch.

We prepare the second strip in the same way. Please note that the zipper teeth do not reach the edge of the denim part.

Close to the edge, along the remaining stitching on the denim seam, we lay a new line. It is better to use a needle on the machine special for denim or size 100.

And then on the other side.

We cut out an element for the fastener from denim fabric. Its width is equal to the width of the bracelet, length 6 cm.

We fix the element under the clasp on the bracelet as shown in the photo. We sew exactly the same element on the other side.

Using a sewing machine, we sew along the perimeter, only at the top and bottom we retreat from the edge to the level of the denim seam.

We use Velcro as a clasp for the bracelet. We cut off the required amount of Velcro and work it along the contour with a zigzag.

A bracelet made from seams from old jeans and an old broken zipper is ready. These seemingly unnecessary things have begun a second life as decoration.

Still, for a thin hand, the bracelet should be made narrower. The diameter of the spirals should not exceed 1 cm. In my opinion, it looks a bit rough.

This bracelet looks much better on a friend. I had to give her this bracelet.
