The right bra for large breasts. Breasts “looking” in different directions. Plus size bras

The bra is as beautiful as it is functional.

An indispensable item in a woman's wardrobe, it adds femininity to the silhouette, emphasizes the beauty of the breasts, shapes and supports the bust.

Choosing the right bra is not as easy as it might seem.

How to determine the correct bra size

Determining the right bra size by eye is wrong. If an intimate item of clothing is uncomfortable to wear, if the breasts look ugly, and the silhouette raises questions, you only have yourself to blame. Obviously, either the shape or the size is not suitable. Meanwhile, all you need to determine the correct bra size is a measuring tape and two minutes of free time.

The manufacturer must indicate the size of the product on the label. It is this information that you need to focus on. The bra must meet two indicators: chest circumference (in centimeters) and chest fullness (or cup size, indicated by a letter code).

Bust determined using a measuring tape placed on the body under the breast. On bras these can be sizes 68, 70, 75, 80, 85, etc. After measuring yourself, round the data towards one of the values.

The next important point is determine cup size, that is, the breasts themselves. If the cup is too small, the breasts will stick out unattractively; if the cup is large, they will “get lost” and will not keep their shape. Therefore, you need to apply the measuring tape again, but not under the breast, but along the most protruding point of the chest. The value of the first measurement must be subtracted from the resulting number. The difference is the fullness of the breast, which is indicated on the product by the Latin letters A, B, C, D.

You need to focus on the following completeness values (difference of values):

Up to 11 cm - size AA (very small breasts, bra for a teenage girl);

12-13 cm – size A (small breasts);

14-15 cm – size B (second number);

16-17 cm – size C (third number);

18-19 cm – size D (number four);

20-21 cm – size DD (number five, very large breasts).

For example, if the chest volume is 76 cm, the chest circumference at the nipple protrusion is 88 cm, then the difference between the indicators will be 12 cm. The correct bra size is 75 A.

How to check if the bra is chosen correctly

However, it is wrong to simply buy a model of this size: you must try on the bra. The fact is that not only the volume of the breast is of great importance, but also its shape, body features and the style of the product itself. How to choose the right bra and what to look for when trying on:

Place your arms through the straps, carefully place your breasts in the bra's area, and fasten the strap at the back.

The hooks can and should be adjusted to achieve the perfect fit. This means that the bra should fit snugly, but there is no feeling of constriction.

The nipple should not point up or down, the direction should be strictly forward.

The straps should also neither fall off nor put pressure. Their job is to keep the weight of your breasts even, so you don't want the straps to dig into your skin. The straps are perfectly adjustable in height.

The bones (or bottom seam) of the product should fit snugly to the body in the area of the ribs. If the bra is chosen correctly, then when you lift your arms, the back strap and the bottom of the “correct” bra do not move, and the breasts do not squeeze or change shape.

The “bridge” formed between the cups of the bra should also fit tightly. If it protrudes above the skin and puffs up, it means either the size is wrong or the style of the product is not suitable.

You need to pay attention to the adjustment of the straps. The fact is that when worn, the straps will stretch in any case, which means they will need to be tightened.

How to choose the right bra shape

The aesthetics of the image and the comfort of wearing depend not only on the correct size of the bra, but also on its shape. Of course, the girl herself should like the item, especially since today the choice is simply huge. In order not to get lost among the styles and models, you need to know the basic shapes of intimate products.

Classic bra. Sewn from knitted, cotton, guipure, silk fabric. The goal of this style is not to give the bust some wonderfully seductive shape, but to support and slightly lift the breasts. A practical, reliable, comfortable underwear option, ideal for everyday wear.

Balconette. A fashionable, popular model with slightly lowered cups. This helps support and lift the breasts, giving the appearance of a larger size. Therefore, the balconette is especially recommended for those with small breasts of size 1 or 2. Larger breasts may look vulgar in such a bra.

Balconette without straps. An ideal style for open dresses without straps or with dropped shoulders. The model is suitable for small breasts, but is unlikely to hold heavy ones.

Corbeil. Its peculiarity is a very deep cutout of the cup, almost completely exposing the chest. Good for deep, revealing neckline. Another option, even more revealing, is a brassiere bra.

Bendo. It is a strip of knitted fabric without straps and clearly defined cups. The model is worn with evening dresses that have a cutout on the back.

Bustier. It is attached with underwires, has removable straps and is combined with a tight modeling corset. This allows you to model not only the shape of the breast, but also the silhouette.

Push up. A popular style that allows you to model your breasts and reveal them in the most seemingly hopeless situations. Thanks to push-up, thousands of girls with sizes zero and one can demonstrate quite decent seductive breasts. The effect is achieved through foam or gel inserts. Depending on their location, you can either create an appetizing dimple between the breasts, or raise them and create the impression of a full bust.

Bra without wires. Good for any breast size, but does not correct it at all. The purpose of such a product is more hygienic than aesthetic.

Angelica. The style is similar to a balconette (often confused). It features an open top, widely spaced straps, due to which the neckline area is almost completely exposed. Compared to a balconette, it has a flat horizontal shape.

"Invisible" silicone bra (invisible bra). An interesting model, made entirely of flesh-colored silicone. In fact, these are just silicone breast pads to which straps are attached. It does not give a special shape to the breasts, but is completely invisible under clothes. Ideal for those with beautifully shaped breasts and for wearing under thin fabrics.

To choose the right bra, you need to focus not only on your aesthetic preferences. The fact is that no matter how much you like a push-up or balconette, they may not fit the style. Therefore, it is necessary to try on products before purchasing. It's good to do this with a friend who will appreciate the appearance. Although models that match a dress or blouse with a large neckline should be in the wardrobe of any woman.

How to choose a bra for its intended purpose

It is important to consider the purpose of the product - this also largely determines how to choose the right bra.

In addition to the usual, although varied styles, there are special ones:

For nursing mothers;

For pregnant women;

For sports;

To seduce a husband;

For figure correction.

Bras for pregnant and lactating women are sewn from natural cotton to eliminate the risk of allergic reactions, chafing, and other mechanical damage. They have wide comfortable straps. The feeding option is two-layer: the cup has a detachable element that allows you to open the nipple.

Sports bra is a thick top that securely holds the chest during active movement. It is distinguished by its laconic design: there is no lace, no foam rubber, no bones. The cup is soft and the fabric absorbs sweat well. The purpose of a sports bra is to protect the breasts from stretching, overheating, and hypothermia.

Two more types of bras look seductive: those made in the form of a top or peignure. Bustier top It is sewn from quite dense fabric, in fact it is a connected bra and a T-shirt-top. Such clothes look very romantic. The purpose of the product is not to shape the breasts or support them, but only to cover them in an exciting way.

Peignoir looks feminine: it is a soft guipure bra without wires, combined with a flowing translucent tunic, or a light cape to mid-thigh. The product can only be worn at home, and there is nothing more seductive and romantic for waking up in the morning next to your loved one.

Designed for figure correction corset. This is a one-piece waist-length bra, the purpose of which is to support the breasts and make the silhouette slimmer due to the rigid frame. As a rule, it does not have straps, but is equipped with ribbons or fasteners. It looks very feminine and at the same time creates a feeling of sexual freedom.

How to choose the right bra? Determine the size, evaluate your wardrobe and outline the goals that an intimate item of women's clothing should achieve. Ideally, a woman should have several styles that most flatter her figure or suit a special purpose.

It is important to understand that as you age or due to weight fluctuations, your bra size and style can change significantly. This point is important to consider, especially when purchasing lingerie online.

A piece of clothing such as a bra is an important element of a woman's wardrobe. Its name comes from two German words “chest” and “holder”. Modern women can afford to buy bras of various shapes and from various fabrics. But in such diversity you can easily get lost. In this article we will talk about how to choose a bra according to size, shape, for a specific outfit or a specific situation.

Let's look at the popular types of bras that you can find in your city. Such knowledge will help you choose a bra not only by size, but also by the appropriate shape or for a specific outfit. Their variety is quite large:

Classical

Every woman has this look; its advantage is that it perfectly supports the breasts, despite the absence of bones. The cup of such a bra is usually molded and closed; the fabric for the classic type can be anything: cotton, satin, a mixture of fibers.

Balconette

A model with a self-explanatory name. It supports the chest due to the compacted bottom, the straps are sewn far apart, the bones inserted on the sides of the product slightly compress the chest towards the center to form a cleavage. This type is called “Angelique” or “Corbeil”, which is the name of the most common models.

Bralette

This bra entered the fashion world relatively recently. It is a lace semi-top, there are no underwires; of the three purposes of this piece of underwear, it serves only one - covering the breasts. Most often it is sewn from soft lace fabric.

Brasier

This model is similar to the “Angelica”, the difference is that the cups are cut out as much as possible, but do not gather the breasts towards the center, but simply support them.

Sports models

They are designed to be comfortable for sports. They are made of dense holding fabric and can be equipped with locks or inserts.

Bustier or corset

Most often, they have no straps, are made of dense fabric, and thanks to frame inserts on the sides, they hold their shape well.

Plange

Women purchase this model for a specific outfit. The cups are made of thick fabric, but have a deep oval neckline, due to which the model is used for dresses with a low neckline.

Push up

This is one type of bra that does all 3 functions. It supports, covers and lifts the breasts. Due to the specially tailored silhouette, the effect of breast enlargement is achieved. Foam inserts are placed in the cups; in some models they can be removed.

Bras with crisscrossing or removable straps

Such models are suitable for specific clothing and are convenient to use in summer.

This is modeling underwear, which is designed to give the silhouette seductive features and hide imperfections. They are made from solid fabric and are convenient because they have no seams.

These are models that are more like silicone breast pads. They are used to hide natural breast lines under revealing outfits. This option is suitable for young girls with small breasts. Silicone must be properly cared for, otherwise the pads will not last long.

Minimizer

This type does not enlarge the breasts, but externally reduces them. This is achieved due to the squeezing effect. Despite its action, it is considered very comfortable due to the wide straps and the placement of the wide bands on the back.

These are the main characteristics of the types; in addition to them, there are divisions into types according to the type of cup, the filler material and much more.

How to choose a bra?

Buying the model you like does not mean choosing the right size and type. It happens that, despite being visually attractive, the bra does not fit at all and looks bad from the outside when trying it on. To choose the option that suits you, you need to correctly measure your parameters.

The size range of bras is indicated using Latin letters and numbers. To calculate your cup size, take 2 measurements. The first is done under the breast.

And the second one is at the level of the middle of the chest.

The smaller value is subtracted from the larger value, the result is the cup size expressed in a letter series.

The measurement under the bust is the volume expressed by a number. That is, the size option will look like this: 75A or 80C.

When buying a bra, you need to try on several different models. Sizes may differ from some manufacturers, so you don’t need to rely solely on size.

Shape is another parameter by which a bra is chosen. The breasts should not protrude beyond the cups, and they should not be half empty. Straps and other parts of the bra should not dig into the skin, and skin folds should not protrude above the details of the item.

Owners of small breasts often complain that they cannot afford outfits with revealing cleavage, but they can choose types of underwear that are not available to busty beauties:

  • Strapless bra. This option is suitable for small breasts, but it is not recommended to wear it all the time. The choice should be made on those models whose edges do not protrude under clothing.
  • Bralet. This option will cover the chest, it is convenient to wear for active pastime. It is usually made from lace and elastic synthetic fibers.
  • Bongo. This model is a type of bralette, the difference is that it does not have straps. It looks like a wide bandage that hides the chest.
  • Bras with detachable or crossing straps.
  • Push up. The best option for small breasts. With its help, your breasts can be visually enlarged by 1-2 sizes.

Large breasts, unlike small ones, need support, so you need to choose from those models that have underwires, frame inserts and wide straps.

  • Balconette. Model for neckline.
  • Classic bra. Essential for women with large breasts every day.
  • Seamless modeling bra. Suitable for figure correction, as well as in cases where the outfit requires the absence of visible signs of underwear.
  • Models with wide straps that fit well and do not cut into the skin of the shoulders.
  • Minimizer. Suitable if you want to visually make your breasts smaller.

Bra for sagging breasts

Breast shape is a sensitive topic for a woman. It does not always depend on the efforts a woman makes to maintain her shape. Sagging breasts cannot be corrected by physical activity. But the shape of the breast can be defined with the help of properly selected underwear.

For sagging breasts, you need to choose models with molded cups. The best option in this case is a balconette and its varieties. At the same time, the materials from which the bra is made must be completely natural.

Best nursing bra

The underwear that women need during breastfeeding is significantly different from what they wore before giving birth. Breasts become larger, so you need to increase the size when buying underwear. Bras have their own characteristics to ensure comfort for mother and baby during the feeding process. In this case, the following models are best suited:

  • With detachable cups, this is an ideal option. The cup is attached to the strap using a button or button. It is convenient to use this technique during an unexpected demand from the baby.
  • With zippers at the bottom of the cups. This model also allows you to quickly unfasten the cup, but the zippers are not always comfortable to wear.
  • With front clasp. Women do not like this option because during feeding the breasts are completely exposed.
  • Elastic bras. When feeding, the material is simply pulled down or to the side, but this option can lead to compression of the breast.

How to choose a bra (video)

From this video you will learn how to choose the right bra size and shape.

Choosing underwear is not an easy task, especially when a woman has non-standard data. A properly selected bra will help hide imperfections and highlight advantages.

Main functions of the bra:

  • breast support;
  • hygienic protection of the mammary glands from the harmful effects of external factors;
  • correction of anatomical shape (enlargement or reduction of mammary glands);
  • emphasizing the femininity and attractiveness of a girl.

An incorrectly selected bust can disrupt the condition of the mammary glands and ruin a woman’s entire appearance. It is very important to choose the right underwear for expectant and nursing mothers. After all, the normal course of physiological processes, as well as the active activity of young mothers, will depend on this.

Each girl has her own individual anatomical shape, for which underwear should be selected correctly. The difficulty of such a choice is that a woman, when planning to buy this item, must know her measurements in advance. Typically, the size of a bra is determined by the size of the cup and the volume of the body under the bust.

The following tips will help you determine your bra size correctly:

  1. The bra should fit loosely around the chest, and there should be no empty space in the cups.
  2. The bust straps should be adjusted so that the bodice does not fall off and put pressure on the body.
  3. The strip that covers the chest under the chest should fit fairly tightly to the body, but in no case should it impede breathing. You can determine the optimal length of the band like this: if, when fastened, the bra can be pulled back to the width of two fingers, then it is a normal size.
  4. The small waist between the cups should be exactly in the middle, ensuring the correct placement of the cups.
  5. The material of the underwear should be breathable, absorb moisture and not cause irritation to the skin. These conditions can be provided by a bust made from natural fabrics.

The bra should not:

  • hinder movements;
  • make breathing difficult;
  • rub the skin;
  • leave redness, dents, marks on the body;
  • crash into the body;
  • move during exercise;
  • press on the chest with the bones;
  • Do not leave any free space inside the cups.

If these rules are not followed, women may experience frequent headaches, cervical osteochondrosis, pain in the shoulders and arms. This occurs from compression of blood vessels and nerves.

Redness and dents on the body after wearing underwear indicate a small bra size. This threatens to impair blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.

Bra sizes by letters and numbers

Determining your size starts with simply measuring your body using a sewing measuring tape and a calculator. To do this, it is not at all necessary to resort to the help of a seamstress. Everything can be calculated independently.

There are several ways to determine your bra size:

  • traditional;
  • modern;
  • European.

Traditional sizing method

To find out your bra size, you need to stand up straight, straighten up and breathe freely. Next, grab the chest with a sewing tape measure under the chest. In this case, the measuring tape should be parallel to the floor, without moving to the sides. You can determine your bra cup size based on your measurements.

According to the result obtained, the linen code is determined in letters:

  • A – 76-108;
  • B - 78-110;
  • C – 80-112;
  • D – 82 – 114;
  • E - 85 - 116;
  • F – 86 – 118;
  • G – 90 – 120.

This method is not accurate. It is based on the direct relationship between the size of the cup and the volume of the chest. But, as a rule, the size of the bust can be different and not depend on the measurement data. For example, a skinny girl can have gorgeous breasts, while a fat girl can have a small bust.

Modern sizing method

A modern method will help you calculate your bra size more accurately. Its essence lies in determining the volume not only under the breasts, but also the breast itself. Next, calculate the difference between these two girths. As a result of such measurements, the exact depth of the cup is determined, which is indicated by a Latin letter. For example: 70c, 90d. Thus, the underwear code contains the size of the volume under the bust and the depth of the cup.

Thus, determining the size of a bra consists of two parts: determining the volume of the chest and determining the depth of the cup.

Stage No. 1: knowing the girth under the bust, you can determine the bra size by choosing the closest number, as shown in the table:

Step No. 2: You can determine your bra cup size by letter by finding out the difference between bust volume and underbust volume. A certain range of volume differences in centimeters corresponds to the letter designation of the cup:

  1. 10-11 – zero (AA);
  2. 12-13 – first (A);
  3. 14-15 – second (B);
  4. 16-17 – third (C);
  5. 18-19 – fourth (D);
  6. 20-21 – fifth (E);
  7. 22-23 – sixth (F);
  8. 23-26 – seventh (G);
  9. 26-28 – eighth (H).

There is another modern method of determination:

  1. Measure the circumference of the chest under the bust.
  2. Add 10 or 12 to the result. Add 10 to an even number, and 12 to an odd number.
  3. Measure the volume of the chest at the most protruding points.
  4. The value obtained in step 2 is subtracted from the chest volume.
  5. The result obtained will determine the size of the cup:
  • 0-1.3 – AA;
  • 1.3-2.6 – A;
  • 5.1 – V;
  • 7.5 – C;
  • 10.2 - D;
  • 12.7 – E;
  • 15.1 – F.

The two methods described above allow you to accurately determine your bra size, taking into account chest height and torso volume.

Bra size chart:

European bra sizes

How to determine the size of a bra brought from abroad? After all, they have their own standards and markings. Such well-known brands as “Milavitsa”, “Victoria’s Secret”, as well as other imported goods brought from Germany, Italy, France have their own markings for lingerie.

European codes contain chest girth and cup size. They are designated as follows: 70b, 75b, 75c, 80c, 80d, 85b.

In some European countries, as well as the USA, markings from 32 to 40 are common. This marking also contains chest volume and cup size. For example: 34c, 36a, 36b, 40d.

These numbers are in inches. To find out your size in inches, you should measure your torso with a measuring tape and divide the result by 2.54.

An example of determining bra size in European standards:

  1. Measure the circumference above the chest. For example: 82 cm, which is equivalent to 32 inches (82/2.54=32).
  2. Measure chest volume. For example: 85 cm. Convert to inches: 33.
  3. Cup height: the difference between two volumes. For example: 33-32=1 inch.
  4. Cup letters in inches:
  • AA – 0
  • A – 1
  • B–2
  • C–3
  • D–4
  • DD – 5.

Thus, we determine the bra size: 32A. Chest volume: 32 and cup size: A.

Correspondence between bra sizes in Europe and America:

Measurements should be carried out at least once a year. After all, the size of the breast, like the whole body, can change depending on weight gain, hormonal changes, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.

What types of bras are there?

Bras according to their functional purpose are divided into several types:

  • sports;
  • for pregnant;
  • for lactation;
  • for large breasts;
  • small tops.

Plus size bras

Large breasts are not only beautiful and feminine, but also a big burden on the spine. In order not to load the shoulder corset and back, it is necessary to choose a bra that would evenly distribute the load from the weight of the chest. Also, large breasts should be properly fixed to prevent them from sagging and to ensure a beautiful bust shape.

The largest bra sizes are from size six (F) to size eight (H). When buying such busts, you need to pay attention to the following factors:

  • thick and durable straps;
  • corset under the bust;
  • bones at the base of the cups;
  • elastic fabric;
  • closed cup shape.

Many women dream of luxurious breasts. But ironically, those with large breasts dream of reducing their size in every possible way.

A bra for large breasts should have the following qualities:

  1. Complete absence of lace, draperies, embroidery and embossed designs. These elements further increase volume. The bust should be completely smooth.
  2. The presence of bones not only under the breasts, but also on the sides. This will help to correctly model the breasts, preventing them from “diverging”.
  3. Under no circumstances should you buy a bra with cups. The cups will lift your breasts and make them even fuller.
  4. The preferred option is semi-graces and corsets. These products are a bra with a wide bodice that reaches all the way to the waist. With the help of such underwear, the girl will favorably emphasize her waist, which will look very feminine and sexy against the backdrop of large breasts.

A size-reducing bra should never be small in size. It should only visually reduce the mammary glands.

Bras in small sizes

The smallest bra size is AA or zero. Such breasts are usually characteristic of teenage girls. But adult women also have small breasts of sizes zero and size one. Sometimes this brings a lot of complexes and suffering. What to do to enlarge your breasts? The radical solution to the problem is surgery. A gentle method is a properly selected bra.

Bra for small breasts:

  1. Lingerie with push-up cups. This is an ideal option for visually increasing volume!
  2. Draperies, embroideries, lace and T-stitches also add volume.
  3. Cups with underwire perfectly lift the breasts, making them taller.
  4. Underwear with horizontal seams on the cups will help round out cone-shaped mammary glands.

You can also visually enlarge your breasts with the help of properly selected clothes and colors. For help, you can contact a competent stylist. A girl with small breasts should not get hung up on this problem. You should look for other advantages in yourself: a beautiful face, long legs, a thin waist, focusing on them.

You need to accept yourself and love yourself for who you are. The sparkle in the eyes and true self-acceptance is what makes a woman attractive in the eyes of others.

Maternity and nursing bra

During pregnancy, the female body undergoes many restructuring and changes. The mammary glands are the first to make themselves known by changing their shape. The breasts swell, become heavy, and also grow until childbirth. During this period, you should think about a new bra, which will not only be large in size, but also made of natural fabric. Cotton underwear is ideal for sensitive breasts.

For nursing mothers, there is special underwear designed for comfortable feeding of the baby. To feed your baby, you do not need to completely remove the underwear - just unfasten the flap covering the nipple.

It is not worth buying such a bra in advance, because a woman cannot predict the size of her enlarged breasts. You can buy such underwear just before childbirth - at 37-38 weeks. In addition, when trying on a bra before childbirth, you should take the cup size with a margin. After all, with the arrival of milk, the mammary glands will become even larger.

Requirements for a bra for nursing mothers:

  1. Wide straps and bodice provide secure support for heavy busts.
  2. The presence of opening valves on the cups.
  3. A minimum of seams and a complete absence of decorative elements: lace, draperies, stripes. All these decorations will only interfere with the normal feeding of the baby. It is better to leave decorative bras for the end of lactation.
  4. No seams on the nipples. During this period, the breasts are very sensitive to various irritants.
  5. Adjustable straps and clasp. At different stages of feeding, breast sizes will change, so adjusting the underwear is important.
  6. The presence of special pockets in the nipple area for pads. The physiological characteristics of a nursing mother require special pads in the bra. Special pockets will simplify the data process.

Such bras should be purchased in specialized stores for expectant mothers.

Selecting a sports bra

Physical exercise requires strength training and a variety of movements. Underwear should not restrict the body during exercise. And therefore, special sportswear was created in the form of knitted tops.

Sports bras are similar in size to everyday bras:

It should be noted that these tops are suitable for girls with small and medium breasts. Large breasts will simply fall out of it and interfere with classes.

Sports bras come in different types, depending on the sporting activity:

  1. With weak support for stretching, yoga, Pilates.
  2. With medium support for shaping, aerobics, roller skating.
  3. With strong support: for athletics, jumping, cardio training.

You should buy such underwear in sports stores.

You can choose the right bra size using the following recommendations:

  1. Measurements should be taken in the middle of the menstrual cycle. Breast sizes change over the course of a month.
  2. To accurately calculate the volume, it is necessary to take measurements in several passes.
  3. Volumes should be measured in a standing position. The tape should be parallel to the floor.
  4. Do not measure the chest while inhaling.
  5. If the bra is the right size at first glance, you should not rush into the purchase. You need to try on several models to choose the most suitable option.
  6. To ensure that the bra retains its shape longer and does not stretch quickly, you should not wear it every day. It's better to buy 5 different models and change them every day!
  7. You should not purchase a product based on the size on the tag. You need to try on your bra! The same size from different manufacturers may fit differently on the body.
  8. If the measurement turns out to be a non-integer number, it should be rounded up.
  9. The bra must match the clothing it will be worn under. For example, under a transparent blouse you should wear a lace elegant bra of the same color as the blouse.
  10. Don't be fooled by promotions by buying cheap underwear. A bra is an intimate part of the wardrobe, which will be in direct contact with the body for at least 8-12 hours. Cheap fabric and poor quality tailoring will do much more harm to the body than saving money.

Measuring your bra size is easy with a measuring tape on hand. A properly selected bra is the key to good health and a great mood for the whole day!

The basis for choosing a bra is the correct breast size. Manufacturers of underwear have already moved away from the Soviet line of sizes (first, second, third) in favor of more accurate European ones bra sizes, which take into account the cup size (letter) and the girth of the chest under the bust in centimeters. To ensure your measurements are accurate, ask your mom or friend to help you. Measure the volume of the chest exactly under the breasts, so that the centimeter does not fall down or ride up on the back, and measure the volume of the chest exactly along the line of the nipples. The cup volume is calculated from the difference between the chest volume and the girth of the chest under the bust. The resulting difference determines the cup of your bra.

  • When trying on underwear, raise and lower your arms sharply, twist and bend, put the bag on your shoulder or arm (the way you are used to carrying it) and jump. The function of a bra is... to support and fix the breasts. An incorrectly chosen bra will “bounce” with you and, riding up, pinches the mammary gland. Many women have the habit of pulling back when their bra rises. If you notice such a habit in yourself, then your underwear does not suit you - your bra does not fit securely.

All lingerie on the model – Intimissimi

  • It happens that the search for the perfect bra is fruitless. In this case, choose one that hugs you tightly (but not tightly) under your breasts, and you can control the cup size by altering the straps: place them closer to each other on the back of the bra.
  • When choosing different types of underwear, consider the features of each type of bra. Balconette cup shape has a right to exist, and it is exactly what suits many girls. But on our model - lingerie with lace right at nipple level. Such fabric will irritate the delicate skin of the nipple halo - this underwear is not suitable for daily wear.
  • Choosing underwire bra without inserts, it's easier to make a mistake with the size. If the cup is tight, then the breast should fill the cup without gaps. When there are no inserts in the cup, then by adjusting the straps and the girth under the chest, you can achieve tight contact between the chest and the cup. But pay attention to the gathers and wrinkles on the fabric! Their presence means that the bra is not your size!
  • Bra without wires, as a rule, does not fulfill its function of fixing the mammary gland! The bra must have underwire. Feel them through the fabric: the ends of the bones should be rounded, otherwise the bones will tear the fabric and scratch the skin, and the bones should be flat so that they fit tightly to the skin and do not “roll” when moving.
  • Push up bra not harmful if sized correctly. In the photo you see push up model with detachable straps. Such bras, as a rule, have additional inserts to support the breasts: rigid sides and additional plates in the cup itself. It is important that these parts do not cut into the mammary gland, but “flow around” the breast exactly in shape!

Breasts falling out of cups?

The cup of a properly selected bra should completely accommodate your breasts. Lean forward and jump. If your breasts fall out of the cup, it's not your model. You need a deep cup with a high insert, then it will be functional and you will not lose your breasts.

The neckline should not cut across the chest. First of all, it's just ugly. Under your outerwear it will seem like you have not two, but all four breasts. Secondly, the lymph flow may be blocked - this is harmful to health.

If you have large, heavy breasts, you need a cup with a side cut. This is a detail on the side that goes into the strap. Due to it, reliable support for a full bust is guaranteed.

In the diagram, the detail of the side cut is highlighted in red.

The cup can be either complex-cut (from several parts) or seamless (soft or dense, padded). It's up to you to decide which one you like best. A dense cup gives the bust a beautiful silhouette - it will be in demand among those whose breasts have lost their elasticity and shape.

Complex cut cupDense seamless padded cup

A very important part of the cut is the insert between the cups, this is a kind of “anchor” of the bra design. Of course, it's very sexy when it's low - the lower the insert, the deeper the neckline. But then functionality is lost - after all, not every breast will be supported in a low-cut bra.

The main support function is performed by the tape under the chest. It is better if it is anatomically shaped, then it will not put pressure on the stomach and diaphragm - in this case, you want to quickly throw off the “armor” when you come home after work.

Do the bones dig into the body?

If you prefer underwear with underwires, then make sure that they completely encircle the chest and in no case dig into the armpit area. If the underwires are moving away from the body, the bra is not your size. If the bones lie ON the chest, it is too small for you. By the way, the bones should also be ergonomic - if you put the right bone on the table, it will not lie flat, but will move away from the horizontal surface in two places.

A high-quality wire will never tear the fabric of the bra - its tip is sealed with a special droplet-shaped glaze. Good underwear has the bone wrapped in two layers of microfiber and soft fleece - you won’t feel it on your body.

Do you know how not to ruin your bra when washing it in the machine and how not to ruin the machine when washing your bra? – That’s right, wash your clothes in a special laundry bag. By the way, such a bag is convenient for washing thin knitted clothes, even jumpers. They will remain safe and sound and will not stretch out or get caught.

Are the straps uncomfortable?

Have you noticed that sometimes straps, especially narrow ones, leave grooves on your shoulders? This is not beautiful and simply dangerous - blood and lymph flow is blocked. The right comfort strap should be ergonomic. What it is? In smart-cut underwear, the width of the strap depends on the size of the bra. The larger the size, the wider the strap (remember physics lessons - the wider the area, the less pressure). In unloading bras, the strap expands on the shoulder and is lined on the inside with soft fleece or even special foam material. Try this ergonomic strap on yourself - your shoulders and back will thank you.

Ergonomic shoulder strap expands at the shoulder and is padded

There is another problem - the straps fall off. Many women put up with this - what can you do, sloping shoulders. They constantly adjust the strap and lift it into place. The problem isn't really the shoulders. The bra size is simply chosen incorrectly or the straps are not suitable for you. If you have small or sloping shoulders, choose models with centered straps on the back. The closer the strap is attached to the center of the back, the more securely it will stay on the shoulder.

Does the back lift up?

Turn around, look at yourself in the mirror from behind. If the back rides up, then the bra is too big for you. The back of properly selected underwear is positioned strictly parallel to the floor. If you have problems with excess weight, you need a wide back and a high armhole. Then you won’t look like a caterpillar - the back and armhole will straighten out your silhouette.

Women with curvy figures prefer a wide clasp on the back with several levels - in case of weight changes.

What fabrics?

Our grandmothers wore cotton underwear. We wear microfiber. This is a new type of fabric that has a lot of advantages: this fabric is pleasant to the body and “breathes”. It does not cause allergies, is wear-resistant, and most importantly, it is hygroscopic, that is, it absorbs moisture well and immediately removes it, preventing the body from remaining wet due to sweat. Microfiber also allows you to produce fabrics of completely different textures - the smooth surface of a seamless cup, lace, and embroidery - everything is made from microfiber.

In many models of high-quality bras, the cup is lined with cotton on the inside. All seams are covered with charmeuse fabric to eliminate pressure on the skin.

How to determine your bra size?

To determine your bra size, you need two measurements. First, use a measuring tape to measure the volume under your bust. Please note that the tape must run strictly parallel to the floor. Let's say the volume under the chest is 84 cm.

Then measure your bust size. Place the tape also parallel to the floor. It should pass along the most protruding points of the chest. Let's say you measure 102 cm.

Now subtract the smaller value from the larger value. 102 minus 84 - you get an intermediate value of 18 cm. We look for this value in the table and determine the letter:

10 – 12 cm: AA cup16 – 18 cm: C cup22 – 24 cm: F cup
12 – 14 cm: A cup18 – 20 cm: D cup24 – 26 cm: G cup
14 – 16 cm: B cup20 – 22 cm: E cup26 – 28 cm: H cup

In accordance with this table, we got the letter C.

Now let's return to the circumference under the bust, our first measurement. If the number is not a multiple of five, then we round it up or down to get the size under the bust, which is indicated on the product. See table:

Underbust volume in cm63-66 68-72 73-77 78-82 83-87 88-92 93-97 98-102 103-107 108-112 113-117 118-122 123-127
Size D/EUR65 70 75 80 85 90 95 100 105 110 115 120 125

Our girth is 84 cm - not a multiple of 5. Using the table, we determine the bra size - 85.

We combine the letter and the size - we get C85 - this value will appear on the product and packaging.

One little trick - interchangeable sizes

When choosing a bra for you, an experienced salesperson may use a formula of interchangeable sizes. True, this rule is suitable mainly for large sizes. For example, having measured all the volumes, you came to the conclusion that your size is C85. But it happens that in the cups of the C85 bra the breasts fit well, but the volume is too big (the back rides up). Then the seller will offer to try on size D80. Most likely, this will be your second, alternative or interchangeable size.

Formula for determining alternative size

Volume under the bust minus 5 (85-5=80)

Cup size - next letter of the alphabet (C -> D)

It turns out 80D

What underwear should I buy for pregnant and nursing mothers? - Only special ones. The cups of the prenatal bra “grow” along with the breasts; they are made of elastic hypoallergenic material. The cups are stable - they should not stretch, their task is to reliably support heavy breasts filled with milk. And at the same time, the neckline is elastic so as not to put pressure on the mammary gland. The cup of this bra opens easily and widely with one hand due to a special clip. The back of the cup is lined with cotton so that the baby's cheek rests on a natural and pleasant fabric during feeding.

Where to buy underwear?

You already understand that proper underwear is a whole science. It is unlikely that such a product can be bought at the market or in a subway passage. High-quality underwear should be purchased not even in large chain stores of outerwear, but in specialized lingerie salons, where professional consultants work.

Is it possible to buy underwear in an online store? – It’s possible if this online store has established itself as a serious trading platform, and not a flea market where everything is sold – from flash drives to sofas. Read reviews, talk to operators, torment them with stupid questions. If an online store behaves like an expert in the topic of underwear and devotes time not only to selling, but also to training/educating its potential customers, then it can be trusted.

And in preparing our article, we were helped by an expert - the online store of underwear and swimwear Anita from Germany. By the way, the Anita brand has been known in the world since 1886!

We wish you good luck in choosing underwear!
