Summary

I have given all the necessary recommendations, the rest is up to you. The video in this article also talks about how to properly get rid of unpleasant odors. If you have your own effective recipes, I will be glad to read them in the comments - write!

In the modern world, people spend most of their lives on the move and this negatively affects the clothes we wear.

Everyone sweats and this is normal, but the unpleasant odor emanating from sweat restricts our movements and makes us feel awkward.

It's much easier when you're wearing light, loose clothes that are easy to wash and get rid of unpleasant odors.

The situation is much worse with winter clothes. In this article we will try to look at how you can get rid of unpleasant odors from clothes such as coats or down jackets.

The main sweating process takes place in, and it is there that clothing first suffers. Also, the coat collar and, possibly, the area around the arms will suffer from increased sweating.

Why is there an unpleasant odor?

Sweat itself has no odor. An unpleasant odor appears as a result of the activity of bacteria. They are the ones to blame for the unpleasant odor that appears from clothes.

The problem of excessive sweating has existed in people throughout our entire existence, so at the moment there are many ways on how you can rid your coat of the unpleasant odor of sweat:

  • Chemical treatment. Perhaps the most obvious way to remove unpleasant odors and sweat stains from clothes is to have them chemically treated. processing. However, this method has a number of disadvantages. The most important disadvantage is that this process is quite expensive and time-consuming, making it quite inconvenient to use.
  • Sprays. A method that perfectly answers the question of how to quickly and effectively rid your coat of the unpleasant smell of sweat. You can buy the spray at any hardware store. They do not mask harmful substances, but destroy them at the root.
  • Cold. As mentioned earlier, sweat itself has no odor. It is secreted by microorganisms that live in sweaty areas of the body. Cold kills such bacteria and rids clothes of the unpleasant smell of sweat. In the winter season, it is enough to simply hang the clothes on the balcony (on a rope), and in other seasons, you can put the clothes in the freezer for 1.5-2 hours.
  • Vinegar. You can also get rid of unpleasant sweat odors on coats and other clothes at home using regular 9% table vinegar. The method is extremely simple: apply in any convenient way to the affected area. After some time, you need to thoroughly rinse your clothes to rid them of the smell of vinegar. If the procedure did not help the first time, then repeat it again.
  • Laundry soap. The affected areas must then be treated with laundry soap and left in this condition for 15 minutes, then rinsed with running water and dried. A fairly convenient and cheap way to clean a coat at home.
  • Activated carbon. Dry cleaning your coat is also a good way to rid your clothes of unpleasant odors. The method of application is that you make a powder from two or three charcoal tablets and pour it onto the affected area of clothing and leave it in that position for a couple of days. The main disadvantage of this method is its duration, because sometimes it is necessary to get rid of the unpleasant smell of clothes in a short time.
  • Salt. Salt cleaning will only work effectively on natural fabrics. It is quite difficult to remove odor from synthetics in this way. Rub a solution of one tablespoon of salt into a glass of warm water onto sweaty areas of clothing, after which it is thoroughly washed.
  • Soda. Spread it in an even layer on the area affected by sweat. Then rub it a little into the stain. Wait about 20 minutes and carefully wipe the soda off your clothes.
  • Newspapers. Paper is also a material that absorbs odors well. The coat must be buttoned up and stuffed with clean newspapers, leaving it in this state for several days. After this time, it will be necessary to air the coat.
  • Hydrogen peroxide. An excellent remedy to combat the effects of excessive sweating. To use, you need to make a solution with a ratio of 1 liter of water to 1 tablespoon of peroxide. Then apply this solution to the desired area, leave it in this state for 15-20 minutes, then thoroughly rinse the clothes and dry them. It is important to remember that when cleaning a white item, noticeable marks may remain; in this case, the item should be washed after treatment.

There are more aggressive methods to cleanse ingrained odor:

  • Gasoline and ammonia. If sweat is not removed in the usual way, then you can use a combination of gasoline and ammonia. However, it is worth remembering that this method is associated with great risks and is not recommended to use it too often, as this can cause irreparable damage to your coat.
  • Vodka. Problem areas can be treated with vodka, after which you need to wait a couple of hours. If the material of the clothing allows it, then it is necessary to iron it, and if not, then hang it out in the fresh air.
  • Ammonia or cologne. A tincture of ammonia or regular triple cologne can help remove the musty smell on clothes. Simply wipe the affected area with a sponge soaked in one of these solutions, and then dry the coat on the balcony.

In order for your clothes to remain fresh and not acquire unpleasant odors, they must be stored correctly and also follow some rules:

  • Items must be stored in dry, closed cabinets or drawers. To prevent clothes stored in such places from acquiring a characteristic unpleasant odor, it is necessary to place bags of lavender, mint or pieces of soap in them. The aroma released by them absorbs the unpleasant odor, replacing it with itself.
  • Items stored in the closet must be dry. Excess moisture leads to dampness, and the characteristic mold and corresponding unpleasant odor appear.
  • Don't forget about personal hygiene. Take a shower regularly and the problem of excessive sweating will not bother you so much.
  • Use strong antiperspirants, they reduce sweat in the armpits to a minimum.
  • Things made from natural fabrics are looser, which allows the body to “breathe” and not produce as much sweat.
  • After home cleaning, clothes are dried in the fresh air until the characteristic odors of the substances used in cleaning disappear.

Remember that the condition of your clothes depends only on you. Only you can decide how to deal with excessive sweating on your clothes.

The fluid secreted by special subcutaneous glands sometimes causes a lot of trouble. Sweat is a normal reaction of the body to changes in environmental temperature; it allows the body to maintain the necessary balance.

However, if some people simply wash things after a hard day, then for others this is not enough. The problem is wet spots and accompanies them everywhere.

What to do and how to remove the smell of sweat from clothes?

Folk remedies

Household chemicals

We all sweat, it is a natural process that should not be ashamed. However, the smell still causes inconvenience.

Even washed clothes can smell unpleasant. If traditional methods do not help, you can solve the problem using chemicals.

Domestos

Domestos is a disinfectant gel used for various surfaces in the home. It kills germs everywhere and prevents the formation of limescale, which is a breeding ground for bacteria.

Domestos recently began to be used for cleaning clothes. An unusual use of this product is known for its antibacterial properties, and it is excellent at combating sweat odor.

Domestos can only be used on white items; when it gets on colored fabric, it mercilessly corrodes it.

How to get rid of the smell of sweat on clothes using Domestos?

To get rid of the stench, use the following recipe:

  • Domestos is mixed with water in a ratio of 1:10;
  • the solution is carefully applied to the contaminated stain;
  • rub the product into the material a little;
  • Soak the item in cold water for 15 minutes.

Do not pour hot water on clothes. Chlorine vapors will quickly enter the respiratory tract and cause irritation.

If the skin is too sensitive, the procedure is carried out using rubber gloves. After 15 minutes, things are rinsed. It is necessary to change the water several times.

Domestos can quickly get rid of an unpleasant stench, but this method is risky. It's better not to use it on your favorite things.

Rodalon

The most effective disinfectant solution is Rodalon. This product is essentially the same bleach, but much better.

Rodalon does not bleach things and kills bacteria. Before putting things in the washing machine, you need to soak them in this product.

  1. Add 10 ml of Rodalone and water to the container. Approximate soaking time is 30 minutes. The more delicate the material, the less time things stay in this solution.
  2. After this procedure, the items are washed as usual and dried.

Rodolon, unlike Domestos, does not spoil the skin of the hands and does not bleach the material. This is its advantage - it can be used for different fabrics.

BOS

BOS works 100% - it is inexpensive, but removes odors perfectly.

BOS has the properties of a deodorant and at the same time destroys microorganisms and bacteria that have settled on the fabric.

When using a stench remover, you will need a small amount of liquid. It is diluted with water or applied to things in its pure form.

After processing, 15 minutes must pass before the items are sent to the washing machine.

Sarma

Sarma washing powder or soap is a truly effective and versatile product. It not only removes stains, but also gives things a pleasant aroma.

The contaminated area is lightly moistened with water, then shampoo is applied and rubbed into the fabric.

If the smell is more persistent, soak the items in shampoo for 2 hours. Then wash as usual.

How to get rid of the smell of sweat from clothes? The product is applied to the stains according to the instructions for use (usually written on the back of the bottle). Rub a little into the fabric from the wrong side, leave for a while, and then wash by hand or in a machine.

Prevention of odors

By properly caring for things, you can prevent the appearance of an unpleasant “smell.”

Sometimes simple hygiene rules will get rid of the corrosive aroma:

  1. Clothes should be washed after the first wear. The longer things are soaked in sweat, the more difficult it is to remove the unpleasant odor.
  2. Using deodorant. It is important not to just apply antiperspirant to your armpits, but to choose the right product.
  3. Special pads for armpits. They are attached from the wrong side to an adhesive base. Sweat will be absorbed into the pads; in the evening you simply throw them away, and your clothes will smell nice.
  4. After washing, a pleasant-smelling fragrance is added to the clothes. This way the pleasant aroma will stay on things for a long time.
  5. Never iron dirty clothes. The steam drives the stench deeper into the fibers of the fabric, then it will be even more difficult to get rid of the stench of sweat.
  6. Items that smell afterward should be washed separately.

A person suffering from hyperhidrosis should know that the secreted liquid itself has almost no odor. If a strong stench begins to bother you, you should consult a doctor.

Heavy sweating can cause endocrine system failure and obesity. Often, simple treatment will get rid of a problem that a person has been struggling with for years.

The smell of sweat on things is an unpleasant problem, but it can be solved.
