Jaycee was found by accident after 18 years. A strange man named Gorrido came to the University of California with a young woman, Alice, and two girls to ask permission to distribute leaflets. Nobuyuki Sato
A Japanese unemployed man pleaded guilty to kidnapping and forcibly detaining a schoolgirl from his home in northern Japan for nine years.
This case shocked the whole country, and after the discovery of the victim in January of this year, a scandal broke out involving the police. At the time of the abduction, the girl was 9 years old, and at the time of her release, she turned 18.

Mark Dutroux
In 1986, Marc Dutroux was arrested for the kidnapping of five women, including one minor. He raped them and filmed it on video. In 1989, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Cameron Hooker
From 1977 to 1984, Colleen Stan was held hostage under the name Carol Smith Cameron and Janice Hooker in Northern California. Colleen was locked up and left to sleep in a coffin-like wooden box under the bed that the Hookers shared. During her captivity, she was systematically tortured and mocked in order to achieve complete physical and moral enslavement. But when she had the chance to escape, she stayed - and even signed a "slave agreement" and wrote letters in which she said that she was in love with Hooker.
But when Janice grew tired of the attention her husband gave Colleen, she helped her leave. And even after that, Colin did not go to the police, did not tell the whole story to her family and continued to call Hooker, although she refused to return to him. Janice Hooker still left her husband. She opened this story to the world.
Collin Stan
Cameron Hooker was arrested and convicted of kidnapping, rape and sexual harassment. In justification, he claimed that Colleen agreed to become their slave voluntarily, and they made love with mutual consent, referring to letters and phone calls from Colleen herself. But the jury was not convinced. He was sentenced to ten felonies and sentenced to one hundred and four years in prison.

A 19-year-old Brazilian girl said she was kidnapped by a 61-year-old man six years ago and kept locked up and subjected to violence. She managed to free herself only now, after her kidnapper was wounded in a shootout and ended up in the hospital.

Four years in captivity. 2000-2004
Viktor Mokhov
In Russia, a native of the Ryazan region kidnapped in 2000 two girls, 14 and 17 years old, and kept them in the basement for almost 4 years.
On the evening of September 30, 2000, 14-year-old schoolgirl Katya Mamontova and 17-year-old student of the Ryazan vocational school-39 Lena Samokhina were returning from the holiday from Ryazan. Mokhov offered to give them a ride.
Having offered them a drink and mixed them with sleeping pills, he brought them to his place and dragged one into the garage and the other into the bunker. There he kept the girls for 44 months, raping them. When the girls showed obstinacy, he starved them, kept them without light, beat them with a rubber hose, and sprayed tear gas around the room.
Lena Samokhina gave birth to two sons from Mokhov: November 6, 2001 and June 6, 2003. In both cases, Katya took delivery, to whom Mokhov brought a textbook on obstetrics. Both boys have now been adopted by other people, as the mother could not take them for herself.
The girls were released on May 4, 2004. In total, they spent 3 years, 7 months, 4 days and 15 hours in a concrete bag.
At the time of her release, Lena was 8 months pregnant, already the third child. Shortly after her release, she suffered a miscarriage. Gradually they restored their health and resumed their studies.
Two years in captivity. 1995-1997
Alexander Komin
At various times from 1995 to 1997, he kept four women and two men in a bunker 9 meters deep, dug under his own garage in the city of Vyatskiye Polyany, Kirov Region. Four of the prisoners were killed by him.
After serving time for hooliganism, the maniac began to dream of creating a tailoring workshop, but slaves had to do it. He looked for the first victims among the lonely dressmakers.
In 1999, the Kirov Regional Court sentenced Alexander Komin to life imprisonment. Upon learning of the verdict, Komin committed suicide in the cell, opening his inguinal artery.

Brian David Mitchell
In June 2002, 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her parents' home in Salt Lake City, Utah. In March 2003, the girl was found alive 30 kilometers from her home with alleged abductors Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Ilin Barzee.
Elizabeth was returned to her parents. In subsequent years, she refused to talk about what happened to her, much less discuss in the press the terrible and shocking ordeal that she had to go through in captivity. Six years later, she told what had happened to her.
Elizabeth Smart said that Brian David Mitchell snuck into the bedroom after her parents put her to bed. He held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her entire family if she didn't want to leave with him. Then Mitchell was forcibly taken to his hut, located in the nearby forest.

The case of the Skopinsky maniac is a story of ten years ago. The details of it are remembered only by investigators, journalists and, of course, the victims themselves. Recall that in September 2000, a 54-year-old locksmith from Skopin, Viktor Mokhov, undertook to give a lift to the house of two underage girls - 16 and 17 years old. On the way home, they drank, and woke up already in a concrete bag at a depth of several meters underground - in two tiny rooms there was a bunk bed, a table and a chair. For almost four years, Mokhov held the girls captive, forcing them to have sexual intercourse with him. During this time, the eldest of the concubines bore him several babies, whom the father carefully threw into the entrances of residential buildings. The girls were released only in 2004 after one of them managed to hand over a note to the police. Mokhov was charged under seven criminal articles and sentenced to 17 years in prison in a strict regime colony.
Then the story attracted the attention of the media not only at the federal level - even journalists came from abroad to see that very dungeon. As a result, the small town of Skopin "became famous" throughout Russia.
And of course, while preparing the other day for the departure of the mobile editorial office of Komsomolskaya Pravda to the Skopinsky district, among other sights, we remembered Mokhov and began to ask everyone we had a chance to talk to about it - from officials to policemen.
So he was killed in the zone, - one of the interlocutors told me and, noticing my bewilderment, added, - yes, they say, a couple of years ago.
We try not to believe in news from the category of OBS (one woman said). But the more residents of the area I interviewed about the fate of Mokhov, the more often I heard that he really died in the zone, and not by his own death.
Trying to track down Mokhov's trail, I found out the following: the criminal is almost impossible to find if, after the verdict was passed, he was transferred to another region. Neither the investigative committee, nor the prosecutor's office, nor the police, nor the court, nor the UIN could answer a simple question for me: in which region of Russia is a native of the Ryazan region serving his sentence. There are no documents, no people who could explain something. It turns out that the small homeland of a person sent a person somewhere to Kolyma to be re-educated, and forgot about him. As they say, a crook with a cart ...
And yet one thread leads to a maniac. Who but the mother can say exactly what happened to her son? However, is Alisa Valentinovna herself alive ... When Mokhov was exposed, she was already under 80.

Arriving in Skopin, by inertia, the first thing I did was go to the local police and investigators. They, by their own admission, also heard something about Mokhov's death, but officially did not have any information. They drew me the road, explained how to get there - a red wooden house on the edge. True, no one remembered the exact address - for ten years since the arrest of the Skopinsky maniac, neither the opera nor the investigators have visited his house.
Yes, you ask on the street where Mokhov's house is - anyone will show you - they unanimously advised me in the local police and the investigative committee. Everyone here knows this story.
And sure enough, the first granny stopped willingly explained how to find the infamous house. And at the same time she shared her observations on the life of its inhabitants.
After Victor was taken away, his mother completely stopped communicating with people, - said a neighbor down the street. - She was closed before, but now she hardly leaves the house.
And who buys food for her, and generally takes care of household needs? I wonder.

A red wooden house… I would hardly describe it that way if I myself had to explain the way to someone. An old hut, covered with cracked and faded burgundy paint, is the home of the mother of one of the country's most notorious sex offenders. I push the gate - it lends itself easily, there are no tricky bolts. Instead of them, a live watchman. A black-and-white dog stops me at the door with a warning bark, but after a couple of minutes, having fulfilled his duty, he begins wagging his tail happily.
While waiting for the appearance of the hostess, I have time to look around. Since 2008, when I accompanied the English director Richard Dalton here (he makes films around the world about maniacs holding people captive), everything has fallen into disrepair. The porch squinted, the window leaf hangs on one hinge, the upholstery on the front door to the house is torn - loneliness, the absence of a male master's hand, is visible in everything.
Finally, Alisa Valentinovna comes out of the house, a completely decrepit old woman in a green woolen jacket and with a stick. She is not surprised at my visit, over the past years she has not seen anyone in her house: the police, the prosecutor's office, and journalists of all stripes. And I always tried to stay away from them. You need to - look, shoot, but I have nothing to do with it, - Mokhov's mother took such a position even during the investigation. At all interrogations, she stated that she did not interfere in her son's affairs and knew nothing about the captives in the garage in the garden before her son was detained. Investigators were unable to prove otherwise. But some of that investigation team are still sure that the mother, if she didn’t know, then guessed, but preferred to leave everything to Victor’s discretion.
Alisa Valentinovna does not look upset and, even more so, heartbroken, and after a few greeting-on-duty phrases, I carefully explain the purpose of the visit:
I came to you with an unusual question, you will forgive me. They say that your son was killed in the zone ... Is this true?
These were fractions of a second, but for them animal horror flared up and went out in the eyes of the woman. The mother is not a maniac, not a pervert, not a criminal, I saw the mother of my beloved and forever small son for her in her eyes, faded from loneliness and grief.
Didn't she know?! Everything shrinks inside of me. But the old woman's face almost immediately assumes its former indifferently alienated expression. She seems to remember something and says in the same slightly raspy voice:
Alive. Just yesterday I received a letter from him, do you want me to show you? - and then, after thinking, he adds: - And they have been talking for a long time. And I even heard. Wish evil, that's what they say.
After a couple of minutes, I have a letter from the zone in my hands. On the stamp - May 23. It looks quite ordinary and even quite competent for a locksmith. I am allowed to read it so that I can finally make sure that Victor is alive and well.
"Hello mother! Everything is fine with me ... ”- this is how the letter begins. I immediately turn the sheet over and look at the signature: “I kiss you, Victor. May 20, 2014".
And between these lines is a sheet of neatly written text, with paragraphs and even margins. What does the cruel maniac write about to his mother? He talks about how he managed to insert his teeth in time before the price increase, asks to put raisins, oatmeal cookies and, of course, several books with Sudoku crossword puzzles in the package.
Mokhov regularly sends money to buy parcels and all ordered hotels to his mother. According to Alisa Valentinovna, he does not have any special gastronomic preferences: he always asks for tea, and sometimes for gingerbread.
And the son is very worried about the garden, how things are going on the farm, he asks if there will be pears and apples this year, - says the mother.
During the conversation, a man appears in the yard. When I asked him who he is to Victor, he answers without much confidence in his voice:
Relative, - and adds: - Far. I help here.
Boris, that's his name, helps his grandmother to sit on the porch.
Are you in touch with Victor? I ask my new interlocutor.
Certainly. He calls us once every two weeks, writes letters, - Boris smiles. - And we are collecting parcels for him. More than twenty kilograms is impossible, so you can’t walk around with food.
Is he not remorseful? – I ask unexpectedly for myself. Instead of an answer, a heavy sigh from the mother, and at that moment the relative, muttering indistinctly under his breath, turns away to pet the dog.

After an awkward pause, the conversation resumes. They tell me that in the ten years that Mokhov has been in prison, he has not had any unpleasant incidents with the inhabitants of the zone or with the administration of the colony.

Alisa Valentinovna does not know how many times a month, a year visits are allowed in the colony where her son is imprisoned - she has never been there.

15. Erica Pratt - 1 day
You will read some really scary stories here, but we will start with the light version. Luckily for Erica Pratt, she managed to escape after only a day of captivity by her kidnapper. Pratt was abducted by Edward Johnson and James Burns on July 22, 2002, when she was 7 years old. The kidnappers were going to demand a $150,000 ransom from her mother for her; she was tied hand and foot and taken to an abandoned house, but she managed to extricate herself and escape. Her kidnappers were later jailed.
14. Elizabeth Shoaf - 10 days and an explosive "necklace" around her neck
Elizabeth Shoaf was abducted at the age of 14 on September 6, 2006. A man named Vinson Filho kept her in a bunker for 10 days. Filho pretended to be a policeman in order to gain confidence in the girl; when he managed to kidnap her, he stripped her naked and subjected her to physical and sexual abuse in various ways. In addition, he mocked her in other ways - for example, Shoaf wore explosives around her neck. Shoaf escaped by asking her kidnapper for a phone to play video games and was able to contact her mother and friends, who called the police.
13. Elizabeth Smart - 9 months and saved thanks to television
At the age of 14, Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped and held captive by Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee for 9 months. Smart admitted that during these 9 months she was raped 3-4 times a day; also, in a ridiculous ceremony, she became Mitchell's "wife". According to her, she was restrained with a cable tied to her leg and strung between two trees. Mitchell also forced Smart to wear a long dress, cover her head and cover her face with two veils; telling her his will, he called himself a "prophet" and "the voice of God." 11. Natasha Kampush - 8 years on five square meters
Natasha Kampush was abducted on March 2, 1998, when she was 10 years old. For more than 8 years, the criminal kept her at his place. She managed to escape on August 23, 2006. She was kidnapped by a man in a white van - and for 8 years of searching, the police searched 776 white vans, including the car of Wolfgang Priklopil, who was the criminal.
Most of her "term" Kampusch spent in a room of 5 square meters with soundproof walls. Kampos has endured physical and sexual abuse on an insane scale. The surprising thing is that at the same time the maniac supplied her with educational materials - the police were amazed at how developed she is, considering how much time she spent locked up.
Kampusch was able to escape while she was vacuuming Priklopil's car, at which time he answered a phone call. Because of the noise of the vacuum cleaner, he did not notice the escape. Knowing that the police were already after him, Priklopil committed suicide, and Kampusch managed to buy the house in which she was captured years later.
10. Fusako Sano - 9 years in captivity in the same house with the mother of the kidnapper
Fusako Sano was abducted at the age of 9 on November 13, 1990. She spent 9 years and two months in captivity in the apartment of the mentally ill Nobuyuki Sato. For several months she was constantly attached. Nobuyuki Sato beat her and didn't allow her to take regular showers. What is unique about this kidnapping is that Nobuyuki Sato's two-story apartment on the ground floor was inhabited by his elderly mother, and he would not allow her to go up to the top floor, becoming aggressive whenever she tried to enter there. Sano had already given up hope of being rescued, but was discovered by the police when the police were investigating an incident of Sato's abuse of his mother. Mentally, Sano suffered greatly from this experience, never recovering from PTSD and retaining the intellectual abilities of a 9-year-old girl. Tanya Nicole Kutch met her future kidnapper Thomas Howes at school. The 13-year-old girl became friends with Hawes, 37, who bought her cigarettes and treats.
